SaBoFlex Mold Oil – Release Oil for Soft Bait Molds
Code: MOLD0050Related products
Product detailed description
SaBoFlex Mold Oil is a release oil for use with molds when making soft plastic fishing lures from plastisol. It forms a very thin film on the cavity surface, reducing the tendency of the casting to adhere to the mold. This makes it easier to remove soft lures, fine details and thin tails without unnecessary stretching.
This is not Worm Oil for treating finished lures, nor is it a softener or another plastisol additive. Mold Oil is applied directly to the working surface of the mold before casting. Do not add it to heated plastisol. Keeping these products separate avoids introducing an ingredient for which the manufacturer has not specified a heat-processing dosage.
Three pack sizes of the same product are available: 50 g for initial testing, 250 g for regular casting and 1000 g for higher workshop consumption. The 250 and 1000 g packs are orderable variants with a usual lead time of 2–3 weeks.
Release oil generally provides the greatest practical benefit with porous artificial-stone molds, where plastisol may adhere more strongly than it does in a smooth metal cavity. A thin layer can also be used with some silicone molds. Precisely machined CNC aluminum molds usually release the casting easily without oil, so use the product only when the particular mold actually requires it.
Even coverage matters more than quantity. Excess oil can form visible droplets or leave a greasy film that reduces the definition of fine details. Start with the smallest practical amount and spread it with a soft brush into an almost invisible film. When using the oil with a new mold or mold material, first make a small compatibility test.
How to use Mold Oil correctly
- Allow the mold to cool, remove any plastisol residue and make sure the cavity is completely dry.
- Apply a small amount of oil to a clean, soft brush instead of pouring a larger quantity directly into the cavity.
- Spread the oil across the working surface in a very thin, even layer, leaving no visible droplets in corners or fine details.
- Pour or inject the plastisol using your normal safe process and allow the lure to set fully.
- Remove the casting carefully. Apply more oil only when release performance begins to decline, and clean away any accumulated excess.
A fine oil film may also support a smoother, glossier finish. The final surface still depends primarily on the finish and condition of the mold, the plastisol, working temperature and correct cavity filling. Mold Oil cannot remove damage, unevenness or a coarse texture from the mold itself.
Before painting, gluing or laminating the finished lure, check that no oil film remains on its surface. Whenever you change the mold material, plastisol or finishing system, begin with a small test casting.
Safe use of Mold Oil and plastisol
- Do not add the product to heated plastisol and do not heat it separately.
- When working with hot plastisol, wear safety glasses and suitable heat-resistant gloves and provide effective ventilation.
- Avoid eye contact, ingestion and prolonged skin contact; wash your hands after use.
- Close the bottle after use and keep it out of reach of children. Always follow the information on the label and in the supplier's safety data sheet.
Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Mold Oil
Is Mold Oil mainly intended for artificial-stone molds?
Yes. Its benefit is usually greatest with porous artificial-stone molds. With silicone molds, first test a very small amount. A smooth CNC aluminum mold often does not require release oil at all.
Do I mix Mold Oil into the plastisol?
No. Mold Oil is used as a very thin release layer on the working surface of the mold. It is not a softener, heat stabilizer or Worm Oil for finished lures, and it should not be added while heating plastisol.
How much oil should I use?
Begin with the smallest amount that can be spread with a brush into an almost invisible film. Consumption depends on cavity size and porosity. Visible droplets indicate that too much oil has been applied.
Will the lure have a glossier surface?
A thin, even film may make the casting smoother and support a glossier finish. The mold surface and correct casting process remain the decisive factors; the oil cannot compensate for a poor-quality cavity.
Which pack size should I choose?
The 50 g pack is normally sufficient for initial testing and occasional casting. Choose 250 g for regular production and 1000 g for higher workshop consumption. The formulation and method of use are the same for all three variants.
