Product detailed description
BKK Fangs-62 UA 3/0 is the largest size in the entire Fangs-62 range and provides its maximum working gape while retaining a 2X construction. It makes sense on lures where a 2/0 hook no longer leaves enough clearance around a wide or bulky body, yet you do not want to burden their action with a robust 3X or 4X treble. Size 3/0 is suitable for proportionally matched pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, the largest hardbaits, jerkbaits, stickbaits and topwaters, bulky streamers and large stinger rigs.
The main advantage of this version is its wide hook gape without unnecessarily heavy wire. On a broad pilker, deep-bodied hardbait or heavily dressed streamer, the points need enough clearance so that the lure body or tying materials do not shield them. The largest hook is not automatically the best one: it must match the lure’s proportions, move freely on the split ring and avoid repeatedly catching the lure body, leader or another hook.
The 2X marking describes the wire and strength class, not an exact load rating in kilograms. Fangs-62 is neither a delicate 1X treble nor an extremely heavy-duty model. It sits between lightweight replacement hooks and robust ranges intended for the heaviest popping or the largest tropical predators. With size 3/0 this balance is especially important: you obtain the widest gape in the entire range without adding the same weight as a true heavy-duty 3X or 4X treble.
The geometry is based on a traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank and needle-sharp points with standard barbs. According to the manufacturer, forging increases strength by approximately 20% compared with equivalent non-forged hooks. The long, gradually tapered points support initial penetration, but the reliability of the rig always depends on the complete system: the sharpness of all three points, the correct split-ring size, leader strength, drag setting and the angle of the strike.
The hook is manufactured from BKK-81WV high-carbon steel and finished with an Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating. This surface protection is designed with an emphasis on increased corrosion resistance in saltwater, making Fangs-62 a natural match for saltwater spinning, jigging and inshore fishing. It can also be used in freshwater for large pike and other predators. An anti-corrosion coating does not make a hook maintenance-free: after saltwater use, rinse it with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect both the points and the finish.
On pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, size 3/0 provides the necessary clearance on broad and bulky bodies where a smaller treble may remain partly shielded by the lure’s side. Based on physical comparisons carried out at SAF, this size comfortably matches a range of pilkers within the stated weight class. It is not, however, a fixed conversion from lure weight to hook size. Body width and shape, eye position, split-ring size, retrieve style, target species and whether the lure was designed for a treble hook all matter.
SAF recommendation for size 3/0: consider it as a starting point for proportionally matched pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g. After fitting the hook, confirm that it rotates freely, does not foul the lure body and does not suppress the fall, side-to-side movement or flutter. The 300–400 g range is based on a practical physical comparison of the hook with actual lures; it is not a universal boundary or a claim that every pilker of this weight must use a 3/0 treble.
Size 2/0 remains a more practical starting point for many pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g and for lures where 3/0 would unnecessarily enlarge the hook profile or alter the centre of gravity. There is no rigid boundary between 2/0 and 3/0: a narrow 300 g speed jig may work better with 2/0, while a broad but lighter lure may require the extra gape. Physical proportions and the lure’s actual behaviour in the water always take priority over the number printed on the package.
On the largest hardbaits and topwater lures, size 3/0 provides maximum point clearance from a bulky body. When replacing the original hook, compare not only the size marking but also overall height, gape width, shank length and actual weight. Hook sizing is not standardised across brands. A Fangs-62 in size 3/0 weighs approximately 5.79 g, so it can affect buoyancy, resting position and response to a twitch on a floating or precisely balanced lure.
Fangs-62 UA 3/0 can also be used on bulky pike and saltwater streamers and large stinger assemblies. Here, lure length alone is not decisive; the amount of fur or synthetic fibre, profile width, buoyancy and hook position matter more. The lower weight of the 2X construction helps the hook move more naturally with the dressing during a slow retrieve instead of hanging beneath it like an unnecessarily heavy anchor. Size 3/0 is appropriate where the volume of tying material or the rig body requires genuinely wide working clearance.
The largest Fangs-62 is not automatically a substitute for heavy-duty Raptor-Z, Raptor-X, Viper-41 or Spear-21 treble hooks. These model ranges make more sense when maximum resistance to straightening matters more than hook weight and preservation of lure action. Fangs-62 UA 3/0 has a different role: it provides the widest gape possible within a lighter 2X range, high working strength, sharp points and corrosion protection without an unnecessary weight penalty.
The BKK Fangs-62 UA size table is an orientation guide for the complete range. It is not a fixed conversion between lure length or weight and hook size. Before final rigging, always check the lure’s physical proportions, the original hook, split-ring size and freedom of movement.
| Size | Pack | Position in the range | Typical lures and applications | When to consider this size |

| #12 | 8 pcs | Small all-round size | Small wobblers, crankbaits, spoons and compact metal lures | For small lures that can carry a 2X construction without losing action |
| #10 | 8 pcs | Light working size | Smaller minnows, crankbaits, spoons, small metal lures and casting jigs | When you need more gape than #12 while still keeping weight low |
| #8 | 8 pcs | Small-to-medium all-round size | Wobblers, crankbaits, smaller jerkbaits, spoons, metal lures and small casting jigs | For common smaller lures where finer sizes do not provide enough gape |
| #6 | 8 pcs | Medium working size | Medium hardbaits, spoons, metal lures, smaller casting jigs, topwaters and streamers | When you need a balance between the finesse of #8 and the wider gape of #5 or #4 |
| #5 | 8 pcs | Intermediate tuning size | Medium wobblers, spoons, metal lures, casting jigs and small-to-medium streamers | When #6 is too small but #4 alters the balance or catches the lure body |
| #4 | 8 pcs | Medium all-round size | Medium-to-large wobblers, jerkbaits, spoons, metal lures, casting jigs and streamers | For lures that need a more pronounced gape without moving to a large hook |
| #3 | 7 pcs | Larger intermediate size | Larger wobblers, jerkbaits, topwaters, casting jigs, lighter pilkers and stinger rigs | When #4 lacks sufficient gape and #2 already feels too prominent |
| #2 | 7 pcs | Larger working size | Larger jerkbaits, spoons, casting jigs, lighter pilkers, large streamers and stinger rigs | For larger lures where gape matters more than a minimal hook profile |
| #1 | 6 pcs | Largest numbered size | Large wobblers, jerkbaits, topwaters, lighter pilkers and speed jigs, and pike streamers around 20 cm | When you need a large hook but 1/0 could burden the lure or streamer unnecessarily |
| 1/0 | 6 pcs | Large all-round size | Pilkers and speed jigs around 150–200 g, large jerkbaits, stickbaits, topwaters and pike or saltwater streamers around 25 cm | When #1 lacks sufficient gape but the lure does not yet require size 2/0 |
| 2/0 | 6 pcs | Large working size | Pilkers and speed jigs around 200–250 g, bulky hardbaits, large topwaters, streamers and stinger rigs | When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider or bulkier body |
| 3/0 | 5 pcs | Largest size in the range | Pilkers and speed jigs around 300–400 g, the largest hardbaits and topwaters, bulky streamers and stinger assemblies | For maximum gape within the 2X range; not as a substitute for heavy-duty 3X/4X hooks |
This version contains 5 treble hooks in size 3/0. Before first use, check the sharpness of all three points and repeat the inspection after every contact with rock, a metal boat hull or another hard obstruction. Replace a blunt or mechanically damaged point; an intact-looking finish alone does not prove that the hook remains sharp.
BKK Fangs-62 UA 3/0 is suitable for anglers seeking the largest corrosion-protected treble in the range, with maximum gape and still-reasonable weight. Its applications extend from pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g through the largest hardbaits and topwaters to bulky streamers and stinger rigs where size 2/0 no longer provides the required working clearance.
Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-62 UA 3/0
Which lures suit size 3/0?
Size 3/0 is designed for proportionally matched pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, the largest wobblers, jerkbaits, stickbaits and topwaters, bulky streamers and large stinger rigs. Always confirm that the hook moves freely, does not catch the lure body and does not restrict the lure’s action.
Is Fangs-62 UA 3/0 suitable for 300–400 g pilkers and speed jigs?
Yes. Based on physical comparisons at SAF, size 3/0 is a very good starting point for proportionally matched pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g when their construction and fishing method call for a treble hook. The weight range is indicative; body width, split ring, target species and retrieve technique also matter.
What is the difference between sizes 2/0 and 3/0?
Size 2/0 is a lighter and more versatile choice for large lures and, according to SAF’s recommendation, pilkers of approximately 200–250 g. Size 3/0 is the largest in the range, adds maximum gape and better suits the bulkiest lures or pilkers of approximately 300–400 g. The proportions and action of the specific lure are always more important than weight alone.
Is size 3/0 suitable for large streamers and stinger rigs?
Yes, particularly for bulky patterns and rigs where dressing materials shield a smaller hook. The 2X construction retains a more favourable balance of weight and strength than heavy-duty models, helping the hook follow the movement of the dressing during a slow retrieve.
Can this treble hook be used in saltwater?
Yes. The Ultra-Antirust finish is designed for increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. After fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points and finish for damage before the next use.
Will size 3/0 change the action of a pilker or hardbait?
It can. Size 3/0 weighs approximately 5.79 g and changes the weight, centre of gravity and hydrodynamic resistance of the rig compared with a smaller hook. Compare it with the original rigging and check the fall, side-to-side movement, buoyancy and freedom of movement directly in the water.
When should I choose a more robust treble than Fangs-62?
Choose a more robust model when maximum resistance to straightening matters more than hook weight and preservation of subtle lure action. For power fishing, heavy popping or the largest tropical predators, Raptor-Z, Raptor-X, Viper-41 or selected Spear-21 models may be more appropriate depending on the technique. Fangs-62 is a balanced 2X range, not an extremely heavy 3X or 4X hook.
