BKK Fangs-62 UA – 2X Replacement Treble Hooks

BKK Fangs-62 UA is a versatile range of forged 2X treble hooks for replacing the original hooks on minnows, jerkbaits, topwater lures and metal lures. It provides more strength in reserve than fine 1X models without adding as much weight as heavy 3X and 4X hooks. The Ultra-Antirust coating is built for saltwater, while the range is equally useful for freshwater lure fishing. Available in the complete size range from #16 to 3/0.

BKK Fangs-62 UA is a complete range of 2X replacement treble hooks for minnows, jerkbaits, topwater lures, spoons and other freshwater and saltwater spinning lures. It is designed for situations where a fine-wire hook does not provide enough strength, but heavy-duty hardware could unnecessarily affect the lure’s action. This category is dedicated exclusively to the Fangs-62 UA series in sizes #16 to 3/0; general treble-hook selection across different brands and a comparison of the complete BKK range belong in the parent categories.
The 2X designation places Fangs-62 between fine 1X treble hooks and heavier 3X or 4X models. It does not guarantee twice the load capacity, and it cannot automatically be compared with the same designation from another manufacturer. In practical terms, it provides a balanced combination of strength, sharpness and weight: more strength in reserve than fine hooks intended for light drag settings, while remaining lighter than the hardware designed for heavy popping and extreme power fishing.
The hook shank is forged, helping to increase strength without requiring unnecessarily heavy wire. BKK states that the forged shank provides approximately 20% additional strength compared with other similar hooks on the market; this is a manufacturer claim, not a universal load rating for each size. The design is inspired by the traditional O’Shaughnessy bend and features three needle-sharp points. Its shank and bend proportions are designed for replacing trebles on hard lures, while the regular eye fits a standard split ring.
The Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating improves corrosion resistance in saltwater. This matters for more than appearance. Corrosion gradually damages both the point and the wire, reducing the length of time for which the hook can be relied upon. Fangs-62 UA therefore makes sense for regular saltwater spinning, light inshore fishing and lures used alternately in fresh and salt water. Its saltwater focus does not mean that the hook is unsuitable for freshwater lure fishing.
Fangs-62 UA and Sting-32 MT belong to the same versatile 2X class, and their practical uses overlap. The difference is not simply freshwater versus saltwater. Fangs-62 combines needle points, an O’Shaughnessy bend and Ultra-Antirust coating with an exceptionally wide size range from #16 to 3/0. Sting-32 uses an inward-facing Combat Point and a silver Matte Tin coating with more subdued reflections. Sting is well suited to freshwater and light inshore lure fishing, while Fangs has a stronger saltwater identity and a broader size range.
Compared with the fine-wire Spear-21 SS, Fangs-62 provides more strength in reserve, but also uses slightly more material and adds more weight. The stronger Fangs-63 UA and Raptor-X enter the 3X class and make sense under higher loads. Raptor-Z and Viper-41 occupy an even more powerful or specialised part of the range. If you fish with a tight drag, use heavy lures or specifically target large, exceptionally powerful fish, Fangs-62 should not be treated as a replacement for these heavier models.
The officially stated core applications are minnows, crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater lures. These are precisely the lure types where strength, reliable hook-up performance and sensible hook weight must work together. Fangs-62 can replace a weak, blunt or corroded factory treble while preserving the lure’s original character better than substantially heavier 3X or 4X hardware. With sizes running from #16 to 3/0, the series is not limited to one lure size or a single target species.
From SAF’s practical perspective, Fangs-62 UA is also a very good choice for spoons, small and medium metal lures, lighter pilkers and compact metal jigs. On these lures, an unnecessarily heavy treble can restrict flutter on the fall, alter the centre of gravity or dampen the action during the retrieve. Its use on lighter pilkers is a practical recommendation based on the 2X construction, corrosion-resistant coating and strength-to-weight balance; it is not a fixed chart matching a specific hook size to a specific lure weight.
Treble-hook weight affects a lure more than it may initially appear. Changing the size or wire gauge can alter the sinking speed, angle, centre of gravity and intensity of movement of a hard lure or metal lure. A hook that is too heavy can dampen the action of a small wobbler, while a hook that is too fine may not provide enough strength for the target fish and drag setting. When replacing a treble, compare not only the size number but also the overall span, shank length, gape and wire diameter.
The complete international range includes sizes #16, #14, #12, #10, #8, #6, #5, #4, #3, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0. Sizes #16 to #4 contain eight hooks per pack, #3 and #2 contain seven, #1, 1/0 and 2/0 contain six, and the largest 3/0 contains five. In conventional hook sizing, #16 is the smallest and the hooks increase in size towards #1, followed by the larger 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 sizes.
Hook sizing is not standardised between manufacturers. A Fangs-62 in a given numerical size may not match a factory hook from another brand or even another BKK model. The safest approach is to compare both hooks physically and check that the replacement does not alter the lure’s balance or allow the points to catch the lure body, leader or another treble. Choose the size according to the lure’s proportions, the expected fish, drag setting and the action you want to preserve.
Ultra-Antirust improves durability, but it does not make the hook maintenance-free. After saltwater use, rinse the lure and hooks with fresh water, allow them to dry thoroughly and inspect the points, barbs, eye and coating for damage. Replace a bent or significantly blunted treble. BKK also recommends storing spare UA-coated hooks away from lead items, so do not leave them together with lead weights or pilkers in a damp tackle-box compartment.

BKK Fangs-62 UA – FAQ
What is BKK Fangs-62 UA?
BKK Fangs-62 UA is a forged 2X replacement treble hook with needle-sharp points, an O’Shaughnessy bend and Ultra-Antirust coating. It is designed for hard lures and use in both fresh and salt water.
What does the 2X designation mean on a treble hook?
The 2X designation describes the wire and strength class within the manufacturer’s range. Fangs-62 sits between fine 1X and heavier 3X or 4X hooks. It is not a guaranteed statement of twice the load capacity, and the designation may not be directly comparable between different brands.
Is Fangs-62 UA suitable for both fresh and salt water?
Yes. The series was developed with saltwater applications in mind and uses Ultra-Antirust coating, but its construction is equally suitable for freshwater lure fishing.
What is the difference between Fangs-62 UA and Sting-32 MT?
Both models use 2X construction and their applications overlap. Fangs-62 has needle points, an O’Shaughnessy bend and Ultra-Antirust coating. Sting-32 uses an inward-facing Combat Point and a silver Matte Tin coating with more subdued reflections. Fangs also offers a wider size range.
When should I choose a stronger model than Fangs-62 UA?
Choose Fangs-63, Raptor-X, Raptor-Z or Viper-41 for higher loads, heavier lures, tighter drag settings and the targeted pursuit of large or exceptionally powerful fish. Select the exact model according to the technique and lure type.
Which lures are suitable for Fangs-62 UA?
It is suitable for minnows, crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwater lures, spoons and other metal lures. From SAF’s perspective, it is also a good option for lighter pilkers and compact metal lures when you do not want overly heavy hardware to restrict the lure’s action.
How do I choose the right Fangs-62 UA size?
Compare the overall span, shank length, gape and wire diameter with the original hook. The same size number may not have the same dimensions or weight across different manufacturers. Also consider the lure size, target fish and drag setting.
Can a replacement treble hook change a lure’s action?
Yes. A larger or heavier hook can alter balance, sinking speed and the intensity of movement. When replacing the original treble, maintain a sensible balance between hook strength and lure design.
How many hooks are included in each pack?
Sizes #16 to #4 contain eight hooks, #3 and #2 contain seven, #1, 1/0 and 2/0 contain six, and size 3/0 contains five hooks.
How should I care for and store Fangs-62 UA hooks?
After saltwater fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, dry it and inspect the points and coating. Store spare UA-coated hooks separately from lead items, particularly in damp conditions.
