BKK Fangs-63 UA #1 is a forged 3X treble hook for medium saltwater stickbaits, poppers and topwater lures, with reference examples around 130–140 mm / 30–55 g. Compared with Fangs-62 #1, it provides extra strength but also adds more weight, so the lure’s action and buoyancy must be checked after replacement. The pack contains 7 treble hooks.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

BKK Fangs-63 UA #1 is a robust size for medium stickbaits, poppers and topwater lures capable of carrying a forged 3X hook. BKK’s reference lure recommendations include stickbaits and poppers around 130–140 mm / 30–55 g. These figures are not a universal conversion based on lure length or weight, but practical examples that clearly illustrate the role of this size.

With lures around 13–14 cm, body width, number of hook hangers, buoyancy and the weight of the original hooks matter alongside length. Size #1 needs enough working gape for the points to project clear of the lure body, while the front and rear trebles must not interlock. On a floating popper, check its at-rest position on the surface; on a sinking stickbait, check the sink rate and stability during a fast retrieve.

The 3X designation describes the wire and strength class of the construction. It is not an exact load rating in kilograms and does not mean that the hook is three times stronger than another model. Fangs-63 is a more robust alternative to the 2X Fangs-62 range, but the actual strength of the complete setup also depends on the split ring, leader, knot, drag setting and the way the fish is played.

The geometry is based on the traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank, regular eye and three needle-sharp barbed points. The shank length is designed for different hardbaits, including topwaters, minnows and crankbaits. Before use, check that the eye moves freely on the split ring.

BKK uses its proprietary BKK-81WV high-carbon steel. The Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating increases corrosion resistance and gives Fangs-63 a primarily saltwater role, while the hook can also be used in freshwater. After saltwater fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points, eye and coating.

BKK explicitly recommends storing Ultra-Antirust hooks separately from lead items. Do not leave them in direct contact with pilkers, sinkers or other lead components in the tackle box. Replace any blunt, bent or mechanically damaged point; an intact-looking coating alone does not confirm that the point remains sharp.

On poppers and stickbaits around 130–140 mm, size #1 is the logical choice when #2 does not provide enough clearance around a bulkier body. The 30–55 g reference examples cover a fairly broad range, but every lure responds differently to a change in rigging. After replacing the hooks, test the lure at both slow and fast retrieve speeds.

On larger saltwater minnows and compact metal lures, check that the hook moves freely on the split ring and that the points stand clear of the lure body. Lure weight alone does not determine the correct size: a wide profile may require more gape than a heavier but slimmer lure. With a metal lure, also make sure that the treble does not catch the lure body or leader during the fall.

Size #1 can already have a noticeable effect on the dynamics of the rigging. It may reduce the buoyancy of a floating lure, alter the neutral position of a suspending model or change the way a topwater lure sits on the surface. Testing the lure in the water is therefore part of the selection process, not merely a final check after replacement.

In the same nominal size, Fangs-62 UA #1 is the lighter 2X option, while Fangs-63 UA #1 provides the additional strength of a 3X construction. Choose Fangs-62 when preserving the lure’s original action is the priority and stronger rigging is not required. Fangs-63 makes sense when the expected load calls for more strength and the lure can carry the extra hook weight.

Size #1 is the largest size available in both the Fangs-63 and Sting-32 MT ranges. Sting-32 MT is a 2X range for freshwater and light inshore fishing, with an inward-turned Combat Point and matt finish. Fangs-63 #1 is the more robust 3X option with an Ultra-Antirust coating, primarily intended for higher saltwater loads.

Within the Fangs-63 range, #2 is the lighter option and has less effect on lures around 10–12 cm. Size #1 adds gape for medium poppers and stickbaits. Size 1/0 is the next step for larger hardbaits around 14 cm when #1 does not provide enough clearance around the body.

Fangs-63 UA #1 is not automatically a direct replacement for every treble hook carrying the same size number. Hook sizing is not dimensionally standardised between manufacturers or construction ranges. Compare the overall height, working gape, shank length, wire diameter, eye and weight, then test the lure’s actual behaviour in the water.

The BKK Fangs-63 UA comparison table shows the practical role of all eight sizes and explains when the stronger 3X construction makes sense compared with the lighter 2X Fangs-62 UA. The specific dimensions and weights in the table are verified examples of recommended rigging, not a universal conversion chart for every lure.

Size Pack Position in the range Typical lures and applications When to choose Fangs-63 instead of Fangs-62
#8 8 pcs Smallest 3X size in the range Compact hardbaits and sinking stickbaits; verified examples: 60 mm / 7–9 g When the small lure can genuinely carry the more robust 3X rigging and Fangs-62 #8 does not provide the required strength reserve
#6 8 pcs Small all-round inshore size Minnows, stickbaits and smaller swimming poppers; verified examples: 65–125 mm / 15–31 g When more working gape than #8 is required, but #4 could unnecessarily affect the lure’s action or buoyancy
#4 8 pcs Compact working 3X size Stickbaits, smaller topwaters and compact metal lures; verified stickbait examples: 85 mm / 24–28 g When Fangs-62 #4 preserves the lure’s action, but the expected load calls for a greater 3X strength reserve
#2 7 pcs Medium working 3X size Poppers and sinking stickbaits around 10–12 cm; verified examples: 105 mm / 25–40 g When #4 does not provide enough gape or reserve, but #1 would add unnecessary weight to the lure
#1 7 pcs Power-oriented size for medium topwaters Stickbaits and poppers; verified examples: 130–140 mm / 30–55 g When Fangs-62 #1 does not provide the required reserve and the lure can carry the heavier 3X treble without losing its intended action
1/0 6 pcs Large all-round 3X size Larger floating and sinking stickbaits and topwaters; verified examples: 140 mm / 43–55 g When #1 does not provide enough gape, but the lure body and buoyancy do not yet require 2/0
2/0 6 pcs Large working 3X size Bigbaits, glidebaits, large stickbaits, topwaters and robust metal lures When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider body; always compare the actual dimensions with the original rigging
3/0 5 pcs Largest size in the range The largest hardbaits and topwaters, plus heavy saltwater rigging that can carry a 3X profile For maximum working gape within Fangs-63; not automatically as a replacement for a specialised heavy-duty treble hook

This version contains 7 treble hooks in size #1. SAF does not include the exact weight of one hook in the Product Parameters without its own physical weighing. Before first use, check all three points and repeat the inspection after contact with rock, metal or another hard obstruction.

For a more detailed look at size, working gape and the effect of hook weight on lure action, also see the BKK Fangs-62 UA size guide. The article provides a lighter 2X reference map; when moving to Fangs-63, physically compare the dimensions again and test the heavier 3X rigging.

BKK Fangs-63 UA #1 is intended for anglers who need the extra strength of a 3X treble hook on medium poppers and stickbaits and who confirm that the lure can genuinely carry the heavier rigging. Its role lies between the more versatile #2 and the larger 1/0.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-63 UA #1

Which lures suit BKK Fangs-63 UA #1?

It is a suitable starting point for medium stickbaits, poppers and topwater lures. Reference examples measure around 130–140 mm and weigh 30–55 g, but the lure’s physical proportions and original rigging take priority.

Is 130–140 mm / 30–55 g a universal range?

No. These are verified examples of specific lures, not a BKK conversion for every model. Body width, buoyancy, number of hook hangers, split-ring size and the weight of the original hooks all matter.

What is the difference between Fangs-63 #1 and Fangs-62 #1?

Fangs-63 is the more robust 3X option with extra strength, while Fangs-62 is the lighter 2X option and generally has less effect on lure action. The same size number does not guarantee identical dimensions.

When should I choose #2 and when #1?

Size #2 adds less weight and is a practical starting point for lures around 10–12 cm. Size #1 adds gape and strength for bulkier poppers and stickbaits, provided that the lure can carry it.

How does #1 differ from Sting-32 MT #1?

Sting-32 MT #1 is a 2X hook for freshwater and light inshore fishing, with a matt finish and Combat Point. Fangs-63 #1 is the more robust 3X saltwater-oriented option with an Ultra-Antirust coating.

Will Fangs-63 #1 change the action of a topwater lure?

It can. The extra weight of the 3X rigging may alter the lure’s at-rest position, buoyancy and response to twitching. After replacement, compare the new rigging with the original setup directly in the water.

How should I care for Fangs-63 UA #1 after saltwater fishing?

Rinse it with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points, eye, split ring and coating. Store hooks with an Ultra-Antirust coating away from items made of lead.
