Sharp Tools for Expeditions: What We Use in SAF Crew?
Have you ever stood on the shore of a Norwegian fjord with a hefty chunk of cod in your hand, only to realize the only thing missing is a sharp, reliable knife?
We at SAF Crew have experienced that many times. That’s why, after years of expeditions, we’ve selected and tested tools that never let us down. We even filmed a video about them on our Instagram, but here’s the same info in text—with links included
1) Semi‑flexible F. DICK Fillet Knife – 18 cm 🔪
Compact, lightweight, and sharp as hell. We love this one for its flexibility and precision—it’s our go-to knife for smaller fish or for tricky cuts near the spine or skin.
The blue handle holds well even when your hands are wet or cold, and the blade is corrosion-resistant. If you want just one good knife to start with, this is the one.
2) Semi‑flexible F. DICK Fillet Knife – 21 cm 🔪
The bigger brother. More reach, more power. Great for larger fish—like salmon, cod or pike—but still light and flexible enough for finesse.
When you’re working with mixed catch or need one knife that does it all, this is the sweet spot. It's become our crew's favourite over the years.
3) F. DICK Flexible Boning Knife – 18 cm 🔪
Not just for filleting—this one’s a precision tool for trimming bones and preparing fish for the pan. It’s flexible but strong, ideal for portioning large fillets or for tight spots around the ribcage. When you're done cleaning and ready to go chef-mode, this is what you grab.
4) F. Dick Fish Fin Scissors ✂️
The underrated hero of our kit. Instead of sawing through fins or tails with a knife, one quick cut with these and you're done. They’re tough, sharp and ergonomic. Once you try them, they’ll become a must-pack item for every trip.
SAF Crew tip to wrap it up:
Everything I showed in the video? You’ll find it in our e-shop. If you're after a real, field-proven filleting setup, this combo is what we recommend as a solid base—whether you're on the boat, by the water, or in the kitchen.
