Product detailed description
Whether you are cross-country skiing, hiking in boots or working in the forest all day, your socks need to fit securely without bunching up or taking up unnecessary space inside your footwear. This is exactly where NORTHMAN Narvik Merino Duo Pack in Dark Blue has impressed us. Despite its understated everyday look, our first-hand experience at SAF means we particularly recommend these socks for active outdoor use and sturdier footwear that still needs to let the foot move comfortably.
Pack – 1 item ordered means one original Duo Pack with 2 pairs in the same colour and selected size.
Recommended use – hiking boots, cross-country ski boots and all-day work in the field; tested through our own experience at SAF.
Hiking and walking boots. Narvik makes a comfortable functional layer between your foot and the inside of a hiking boot. The ribbed knit fits closely and, in our experience, is less likely to bunch up while walking. A smoothly finished toe limits pressure from a bulky seam. Combined with properly fitted footwear, a secure sock fit can help reduce rubbing that may otherwise contribute to blisters.
Cross-country skiing and snug sports boots. A sock that fits well without unnecessary bulk is often a better choice in cross-country ski boots than a thick winter sock. Narvik does not have substantial cushioning, so it takes up less space around the toes and instep in snug-fitting footwear, including shell-style boots. During activity, it offers comfortable warmth without the extra bulk that can make a foot feel overheated.
Long days working outdoors. When walking or working in woodland, on site or in sturdy work boots, you can appreciate the combination of secure fit, comfort and merino wool. The socks help manage moisture next to the skin, useful when alternating between activity and rest. How dry your feet actually feel also depends on boot breathability, weather and exertion; the socks themselves are not waterproof.
Materials and construction. The composition is 60% merino wool, 37% polyamide and 3% elastane. Merino contributes to moisture and temperature comfort, polyamide adds durability, and elastane helps the knit hug the foot. The true-rib knitting technique adapts comfortably to the shape of the foot; the flexible cuff does not dig in, and the smooth toe finish is useful on longer walks.
For the city too, but not only. The dark blue colour coordinates well with hiking clothes and everyday leisure footwear. Narvik is also easy to wear for work, travel and everyday city use. Its real strength, however, is versatility: understated styling, lower bulk and comfort when you want an outdoor sock that does not fill your boot unnecessarily.
Caring for merino. Allow the socks to air and dry completely after wearing. Wash gently according to the original care label, with a detergent suitable for wool or technical garments. Avoid fabric softener, bleach and snagging the knit on hook-and-loop fasteners.
Compare and complement Narvik. For very cold conditions or long periods of standing still, compare Perun Merino; for more demanding winter activities, consider Arctic Track Merino. For finer everyday wear, see Trojan Merino and Hamar Merino. Find more options in the NORTHMAN range, or choose wellingtons and outdoor footwear at SAF.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Are Narvik Merino socks suitable for cross-country ski boots?
Yes. In our experience they work very well in close-fitting cross-country ski boots, where the secure fit and low-bulk knit are particularly useful. Your boots must still leave enough room for your feet.
Are they suitable for hiking boots?
Yes. They fit closely without adding unnecessary bulk, while the merino blend helps manage moisture and temperature comfort during a hike. Both your socks and boots need to fit correctly.
Can they help prevent bunching and blisters?
In our experience, the ribbed knit stays close to the foot and the smooth toe finish reduces pressure from seams. This may help limit rubbing, but blisters also depend on boot fit, sizing and time spent on your feet.
Will my feet overheat during activity?
The relatively low-bulk knit and merino material are two reasons we recommend Narvik for active outdoor use. Actual comfort still depends on your footwear breathability and the weather.
How many pairs come in one Narvik Duo Pack?
One original pack contains 2 pairs in the same colour and size. Ordering 1 item from SAF means receiving the full two-pair pack.
→ For active wear inside sturdy footwear, choose the correct sock size and make sure your feet have enough room.
