SaBoFlex Plastisol Floating Additive

SaBoFlex Plastisol Floating Additive is a powder additive for plastisol soft bait making, designed to increase buoyancy and create floating or slower-sinking soft plastic lures. It helps reduce the final density of the lure body, tail, claws or selected bait sections, making the soft bait move lighter and stay longer in the strike zone. Available in a 30 g pack for testing and small-batch lure making, and in a larger 0.5 kg pack for regular or higher-volume production. Please note that this additive can slightly cloud the plastisol colour, so it is not ideal for crystal-clear transparent lure patterns.

Product detailed description

SaBoFlex Plastisol Floating Additive is a powder floating additive for plastisol designed for making floating soft plastic lures and slower-sinking soft baits. It is added directly into liquid plastic during lure making and helps adjust the final buoyancy of the bait. Depending on the amount used, lure shape and rigging, it can make the lure sink more slowly, float better or hold a lighter and more active position in the water.

The main purpose of this additive is simple: to reduce the final density of the soft bait. This is useful whenever you do not want the lure to drop too fast, but need a slower and more natural presentation. Floating Additive makes a lot of sense for finesse soft baits, drop-shot lures, worms, creature baits, craws, claws, tails and lure sections that should move more freely and stay active for longer.

One of the most interesting uses is in baits where a specific part of the lure should behave differently. Craw claws can lift more naturally off the bottom, tails can feel lighter in the water and the whole bait can remain visible and attractive for longer during pauses. In finesse fishing, this can extend the strike window because the lure does not fall out of the fish’s active zone too quickly.

It is important to understand that floating additive does not automatically make every finished rig float. The final behaviour always depends on the amount of additive, plastisol type, lure size, colour, mould shape, hook, jig head or any additional weight. If the lure is mounted on a heavy jig head, the complete rig will not float. However, the additive can still change the behaviour of the soft bait body, slow down the fall rate and create a lighter, more natural action.

The recommended starting ratio is approximately 3 g per 100 g of plastisol. The 30 g variant is therefore enough for approximately 1 kg of plastisol at this ratio and is ideal for first tests, small-batch production or tuning specific recipes. The 0.5 kg variant is suitable for larger lure makers, regular soft bait production and situations where you already know the additive works well in your recipes. At the same starting ratio, the 0.5 kg pack is enough for approximately 16.5 kg of plastisol.

For every new colour and mould, we recommend starting with a small test batch and checking the result in water. Higher loading increases buoyancy, but it can also affect the colour, transparency and final look of the lure. For that reason, it is better to tune the recipe step by step instead of adding too much powder in the first pour.

Floating Additive also has one limitation that should be understood before use: it can slightly cloud or blur the plastisol colour. It is therefore not the best option for crystal-clear “glass clear” lures, transparent bellies or colour patterns where maximum clarity is required. It works much better in milky, pearl, opaque, smoke, natural and stronger colour designs where a slight loss of clarity is not a problem, or can even help create a fuller-looking bait body.

When working with the powder, dose it carefully, avoid creating unnecessary dust and mix it thoroughly into the plastisol. Always work in a well-ventilated area, use eye protection, gloves and a respirator when handling the powder. As with all soft bait making materials, heated plastisol requires careful handling, temperature control and proper workshop safety.

SaBoFlex Plastisol Floating Additive is suitable for use with plastisol for soft bait making, liquid plastisol colours, glitter and soft bait moulds. It is a practical additive for lure makers who want to tune not only colour and softness, but also buoyancy, fall rate and lure behaviour in the water.

Packaging note: the product photo showing the original production packaging is illustrative. The product is supplied according to the selected variant – either as a measured 30 g amount in a practical plastic jar, or as a larger 0.5 kg pack for regular production. This is an original floating additive from the SaBoFlex / HaBaFlex range, prepared in pack sizes suitable for both testing and higher-volume soft bait making.
