SAF PLASTI-X MAHI 15cm – Nightfall UV is a hand-poured and carefully finished soft fishing lure that we make piece by piece right here in our own workshop. This is not just another generic dark lure with no personality. This version stands on the combination of the slim hybrid MAHI profile, a dark base tone, a subtle shifting blue effect, full UV activity and an overall expression that stays natural in the water but never feels flat or lifeless.

Nightfall UV is not built on plain black. The base is dark, but the material also contains an Interference Blue pigment that creates fine blue micro flashes and a lightly shifting effect throughout the body. In daylight, against the light and especially in the water, this gives the lure a much more alive look than an ordinary solid dark color. The result is not loud or overdone, but very easy to read and visually interesting.

That is exactly where the strength of Nightfall UV sits. Dark lure colors make a lot of sense whenever you need a stronger silhouette, a cleaner natural contrast and a lure that stays visible even in worse light conditions. This color therefore works especially well at dusk, in the evening, under heavy cloud cover, in deeper water or during saltwater fishing, where darker lures often perform extremely well thanks to the clear outline they create in the water.

We also add a UV activator to the material, so Nightfall UV is not built only on a dark silhouette and a blue interference shimmer. That extra UV activity helps the lure stay readable even in situations where a standard dark color on its own would start to lose strength. The result is a softbait that feels dark, elegant and natural, but still has enough life in it to remain visually active in the water.

The MAHI 15cm model itself is very specific. Within the logic of SAF PLASTI-X, it is a hybrid jerk-shad softbait – a slim lure sitting between a classic soft jerk shad and a ripper-style profile. The body is narrower, softer and more relaxed than on standard wider softbaits, so it feels finer, more lively and more natural in the water. That is exactly why Nightfall UV makes so much sense as a lure for situations where you want a slimmer presentation without losing enough visual signal.

This color has especially strong potential in saltwater fishing. And that is exactly where Nightfall UV becomes very logical. Darker lure colors often perform extremely well in the sea during active retrieves, mid-water presentation and searching around the boat. With the slim MAHI profile, you also get a more natural movement and a finer overall expression. For cod, coalfish, pollock and other saltwater predators, this is a very interesting combination – a dark silhouette, a fine blue flash, UV activity and a lure that does not feel stupidly overblown.

Nightfall UV is not limited to the sea, though. It also makes sense in freshwater, especially whenever you want a darker working color with a natural profile and a finer type of movement. Because MAHI sits between a jerk-shad and a ripper-style lure, it works as a very interesting option for anglers who do not want either a fully passive tail-less lure or a classic bulky ripper with a harder overall action.

And now the important part: eyes make lures. With MAHI, that matters even more, because the more pronounced eye helps complete the whole shape and gives this bait its typical “mahi” expression. That is why we do not use cheap nameless lure eyes with no character. We rig these baits with quality 3D Sybai eyes in 1.2 cm, and those eyes have a noticeably more robust resin layer than common low-cost alternatives. The result is not only better looking, but also much stronger and cleaner in terms of the lure’s overall expression.

The way the eye is seated also makes a major difference. We glue the eyes with gel super glue, not with thin liquid glue that tends to run, create a dirty joint or leave an ugly air gap under the eye. The gel seats the eye properly, fills the space and helps build a clean, full and visually strong detail. On a model like MAHI, where the eye has such a strong influence on the lure’s personality, that detail matters a lot.

We give the same care to the final finishing of every lure. When we cut the baits away from the plastisol, every cut point is hand-melted and sealed again so the whole area looks clean, consistent and professional. It is a small detail that many serially made softbaits never deal with, but on the finished lure the difference is clearly visible.
