Guideline 3D+ Compact 23 g is a separate fly-fishing shooting head for switch and shorter double-handed rods; lighter weights can also suit an appropriately rated single-handed rod. Match its 23 g weight to your rod’s recommended casting load, then select a density for the depth and current. It features a low-stretch Direct Contact core and loops at both ends. A separate shooting line and leader are needed to complete the setup.

Product detailed description

Guideline 3D+ Compact 23 g is a short shooting head for switch and shorter double-handed rods. Suitability for a single-handed rod depends on its recommended head-weight range. This product has a 23 g head weight; density is selected separately from the available options. Floating and sinking versions of the same weight serve different fishing situations.

Match weight before depth – choose 23 g to suit your rod, then select the head density for the current and presentation.

Multi-density 3D+ Compact versions use transitions between sections of different density. Versions beginning with Float have a floating rear section to help lift the head from the water; this does not apply to fully sinking versions. The polyurethane coating is PVC-free.

The Direct Contact core has approximately 6% stretch and a stated strength of 30 lb. These figures describe the core, rather than a recommended fish weight or the strength of the complete rig. Loops at both ends simplify connections, while rear ID marking helps identify heads when changing them.

  • Head weight: 23 g.
  • Options listed for this product: FLOAT; FLOAT | HOVER | S1; FLOAT | S1 | S3; FLOAT | S2 | S4; FLOAT | S3 | S5; INT | S4 | S6; S2 | S5 | S7.
  • Float = floating; Hover = very slow sinking; INT = intermediate. S denotes a sinking section.
  • Separate shooting head; select the shooting line and leader separately.

A faster-sinking version can help in deeper or faster water, but actual fishing depth also depends on current, fly size and presentation. Do not select solely by the sink designation. Keep the head weight within your rod manufacturer’s recommended range when changing density.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Will 23 g suit my rod?

Compare 23 g with the recommended shooting-head range for your specific rod. A line-class number alone may represent different casting loads on single-handed, switch and double-handed rods.

Is this a complete fly line?

No. It is a separate shooting head. Connect a shooting line at the rear and a leader at the front.

Does it need an additional sinking tip?

3D+ Compact is designed to take a monofilament leader directly, without an extra tip or polyleader. Choose the appropriate head density for the presentation.

How should I store the head?

Rinse as appropriate after fishing, let it dry and store it in loose coils. Check the coating and connection loops before the next outing.

→ Check the 23 g head weight against your rod and confirm the selected density before ordering.

↓ Complete the setup with a suitable shooting line, leader and head storage from the shop’s range.
