Product detailed description

Guideline LPX Chrome SH is a premium powerful single-hand rod range for migratory fish – salmon, sea trout, steelhead and strong trout in bigger water. This is not a delicate general trout rod. It is a specialist 9'9" single-hand tool for anglers who want to fish larger flies, compact shooting heads, ULS systems and stronger fish without moving into a switch or double-hand setup.

The 9'9" length is central to this rod concept. It adds better line control, more reach, easier mending, longer drift control and more confidence when working shooting heads. For migratory fishing this length makes real practical sense: you still fish a single-hand rod, but with more reach, leverage and control than a classic 9ft rod.

The action is Full / Mid Flex with Fast Recovery. The rod loads deeper – around three quarters into the blank – but the power comes in early and very cleanly. It does not feel like a stiff stick. With proper timing, the lower part of the blank connects into the cast and creates a strong catapult effect in the stop, helping to deliver long casts with less physical effort.

The blank is built with C.A.P M4.0™ blank construction technology. Complex Axial Pattern combines carbon layers placed at different angles with a unidirectional carbon fibre structure to improve strength, stability and clean blank tracking during rotation. In practice, this means less side wobble, more accurate line tracking, higher line speed and cleaner loops on longer casts.

LPX Chrome SH is built for 3D+ Compact, 4D Compact multi-tip, ULS and similar systems. Guideline clearly states that the line rating on these rods is accurate and that there is no need to overload them. That matters during long fishing days, because an unnecessarily heavy head quickly increases fatigue, worsens timing and reduces loop control.

The component level matches hard fishing. The rod uses FLOR grade cork with rubber-cork reinforcement, a custom hard-anodized reel seat in grey / teal finish, lightweight titanium stripping guides with Zirconia inserts and PVD coated single-leg guides in semi-matte gun smoke finish. The blank has a glossy deep Teal / Grey colour with matching teal wraps, giving the Chrome series a clean technical look.

The LPX Chrome range also follows Guideline’s more responsible production concept. The blanks are not ground, reducing harmful carbon dust during production, low-toxic resins are used, the rod bag and tube cover are made from recycled polyester, and the rod tube is made from strong polypropylene. For a powerful migratory rod, this matters because the cleaner construction concept does not weaken the product – it still delivers a light, stable and highly durable blank.

Size Length Line weight Rec. head weight Weight Best use
9'9" #6 9'9" / 297 cm #6 14–16 g / 216–245 grains 90 g sea trout, grilse, smaller salmon, lighter heads
9'9" #7 9'9" / 297 cm #7 17–19 g / 262–293 grains 93 g larger flies, sea trout, steelhead, salmon
9'9" #8 9'9" / 297 cm #8 20–23 g / 310–350 grains 96 g trophy fish, current, heavier heads, larger streamers

The 9'9" #6 is the finest model in the Chrome SH range. It makes sense for sea trout, grilse, smaller salmon, steelhead and situations where you want to combine a stealthier presentation with enough reserve for stronger fish. It works well with lighter 3D+ Compact or ULS systems and is easier to fish for long sessions without fatigue.

The 9'9" #7 is the main all-round size. It handles larger flies, compact heads, stronger current and a wide range of migratory fishing. If you want one LPX Chrome SH rod for sea trout, steelhead and smaller to medium salmon, the #7 is the most natural choice.

The 9'9" #8 adds more backbone for trophy fish, bigger water, heavier heads, stronger current and bulkier streamers. It is the most powerful model in the range and makes sense where a regular trout #7 is no longer enough, but the angler still wants to fish single hand.

LPX Chrome SH is supplied as a 4-piece rod with a recycled polyester rod bag and a strong polypropylene tube with recycled polyester fabric cover. Choosing the right line or shooting head is especially important with this rod – the whole setup should be matched around compact heads, ULS systems or WF Bullet depending on the fishing style.

Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline LPX Chrome SH

Who is Guideline LPX Chrome SH made for?

It is made for anglers who want a powerful single-hand rod for migratory fish – sea trout, steelhead, salmon, grilse and large trout. It is a rod for bigger flies, shooting heads and situations where a classic trout rod does not have enough reserve.

Why is LPX Chrome SH 9'9" long?

The 9'9" length adds better line control, easier mending, longer drift, more reach and more confidence when working compact heads. It is still a single-hand rod, but with more control and leverage than a standard 9ft rod.

Which LPX Chrome SH size should I choose?

Choose #6 for lighter sea trout, grilse and lighter heads. Choose #7 as the main all-round model for sea trout, steelhead and smaller to medium salmon. Choose #8 for bigger fish, current, heavier heads and bulkier flies.

Is LPX Chrome SH suitable for compact shooting heads?

Yes. Guideline builds it for compact 3D+, 4D Compact multi-tip, ULS and similar systems. The important point is not to overload the rod – the line rating is accurate and works best with the correct head weight.

Is LPX Chrome SH a delicate trout all-round rod?

No. It is a powerful anadromous / migratory single-hand rod. For regular delicate trout fishing, LPX Tactical, Elevation Single Hand or lighter Guideline series make more sense.

How is LPX Chrome SH different from LPX Coastal?

LPX Chrome SH is more of a river-based migratory rod for sea trout, steelhead, salmon and shooting heads. LPX Coastal is a broader coastal / saltwater range from #6 to #12 for coast, tropical flats, pike, saltwater predators and powerful fish.
