BKK Fangs-62 UA #2 is a larger working size for pilkers and compact metal jigs around 10 cm, spoons of a similar length, and freshwater or saltwater streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm. The lightweight 2X construction with an Ultra-Antirust finish provides a wider working gape than #3 while adding less weight to the lure than #1. With streamers, the density and volume of the tying material matter just as much as length. The pack contains 7 treble hooks.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

BKK Fangs-62 UA #2 is a larger working size for lures where a smaller treble hook no longer provides sufficient gape, but #1 would add an unnecessarily large profile or too much weight. Based on SAF’s physical comparison, it is well suited to pilkers and compact metal jigs around 10 cm, spoons of a similar length, and freshwater or saltwater streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm. With streamers, however, length alone is not enough—the density, width and compressibility of the tying material also determine the appropriate hook size.

The main role of this version is to provide sufficient working clearance for the points without unnecessarily loading the lure. The treble hook must extend far enough beyond the side of a pilker, metal jig or spoon to prevent the lure body from shielding the points during a strike. On a streamer, the points must remain clear of fur or synthetic fibres. At the same time, the hook should not be so large that it restricts the lure’s movement, pulls down its rear section or repeatedly catches the body or other parts of the rig.

The 2X designation describes the wire and strength class, not an exact load rating in kilograms. Fangs-62 is neither a delicate 1X treble nor a heavy-duty model for extreme fishing. Its advantage lies in the balanced combination of strength, gape and weight. With size #2, this balance is particularly important on medium-sized metal lures and streamers whose action or position in the water can respond sensitively to changes in rigging weight.

The geometry is based on a traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank, regular eye and three needle-sharp points with standard barbs. According to the manufacturer, forging increases strength by approximately 20% compared with equivalent non-forged hooks. The reliability of the complete rig also depends on the condition of all three points, the correct split ring, leader strength, drag setting and the angle at which the fish takes the lure.

The hook is manufactured from BKK-81WV high-carbon steel and finished with an Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating designed to provide increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. Size #2 can therefore be used on saltwater pilkers, compact metal jigs, spoons and streamers, as well as freshwater lures for pike and other predators. After saltwater use, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect both the points and the finish for damage.

On pilkers and compact metal jigs around 10 cm, size #2 provides a very good starting balance between gape and weight based on SAF’s physical comparison. This recommendation applies to proportionally matched lures, not every metal lure of the same length. Body width and thickness, eye position, split-ring size and the character of the fall also matter. After fitting the hook, confirm that it rotates freely, does not lie flat against the lure with all three points and does not restrict the lure’s natural action.

On spoons measuring approximately 10 cm, low hook weight is particularly important. An excessively heavy treble can pull down the rear section, accelerate the fall or restrict the rocking and fluttering movement that makes a spoon effective. Size #2 provides a clearly defined working gape while remaining lighter than #1. After replacing the original hook, compare not only its dimensions but also the total weight and the lure’s behaviour during a slow retrieve and on the fall.

For streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm, size #2 is a suitable starting point in both freshwater and saltwater, provided that the tying material leaves sufficient clearance around the points. A sparsely dressed 18 cm streamer may work very well with #2, while a shorter but densely tied pattern made from fur or bulky synthetic fibres may require #1. Conversely, a particularly slim streamer may also work with #3. Always consider length together with material volume, profile width, buoyancy and stinger position.

There is no rigid boundary between neighbouring sizes. #3 is a finer choice for slimmer or lighter lures where you want to minimise hook profile and weight. #2, based on SAF’s recommendation, is well suited to pilkers, compact metal jigs and spoons around 10 cm and medium-sized streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm. #1 adds more working gape for pilkers around 12 cm / 80–120 g and slimmer pike streamers measuring approximately 20–24 cm.

On hardbaits, jerkbaits, casting jigs and stinger rigs, size #2 can replace the original treble where a smaller hook appears too deeply concealed behind the lure body. Hook sizing is not standardised across brands, so do not compare only the number printed on the package. Check the actual hook height, gape width, shank length and weight. According to the reference measurement, BKK Fangs-62 UA #2 weighs approximately 1.24 g.

Fangs-62 UA #2 is not automatically a substitute for the more robust Raptor-Z, Raptor-X or Viper-41 ranges. These models make more sense when maximum resistance to straightening matters more than low hook weight and preservation of subtle lure action. Fangs-62 has a different role: it provides a sharp, corrosion-protected 2X treble with a favourable strength-to-weight ratio for both freshwater and saltwater use.

The BKK Fangs-62 UA size table is an approximate guide to the complete range. It is not a universal conversion between lure length or weight and hook size. Before final rigging, always check the physical proportions of the specific lure, the original hook, split-ring size and freedom of movement.

Size Pack Position in the range Typical lures and applications When to consider this size
#16 8 pcs Smallest size in the range Micro lures, very small hardbaits, micro spoons and the lightest small metal jigs When minimum hook size and minimal influence on lure action are the priorities
#14 8 pcs Very fine size Small minnows, crankbaits, spinners, micro spoons and the lightest small metal jigs When #16 is too small but the lure still requires lightweight hardware
#12 8 pcs Small all-round size Small hardbaits, crankbaits, spoons and compact metal jigs For small lures that can carry a 2X construction without losing action
#10 8 pcs Light working size Smaller minnows, crankbaits, spoons, small pilkers and compact casting jigs When you need more gape than #12 while still keeping weight low
#8 8 pcs Small-to-medium all-round size Hardbaits, crankbaits, smaller jerkbaits, spoons, small pilkers and compact casting jigs For common smaller lures where finer sizes do not provide enough gape
#6 8 pcs Medium working size Medium hardbaits, spoons, pilkers, smaller casting jigs, topwater lures and streamers When you need a balance between the finesse of #8 and the wider gape of #5 or #4
#5 8 pcs Intermediate tuning size Medium hardbaits, spoons, pilkers, casting jigs and small-to-medium streamers When #6 is too small but #4 alters the balance or catches the lure body
#4 8 pcs Medium all-round size Medium-to-large hardbaits, jerkbaits, spoons, pilkers, casting jigs and streamers For lures that need a more pronounced gape without moving to a large hook
#3 7 pcs Larger intermediate size Larger hardbaits, jerkbaits, topwater lures, casting jigs, lighter pilkers and stinger rigs When #4 lacks sufficient gape and #2 already appears too prominent
#2 7 pcs Larger working size Pilkers, compact metal jigs and spoons around 10 cm, hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm When #3 lacks sufficient gape but #1 could add unnecessary weight to the lure or streamer
#1 6 pcs Largest numbered size Pilkers around 12 cm / 80–120 g, large hardbaits and topwater lures, and slimmer pike streamers measuring approximately 20–24 cm When #2 lacks sufficient gape but 1/0 could add unnecessary weight to the lure or streamer
1/0 6 pcs Large all-round size Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 150–200 g, large jerkbaits, stickbaits, topwater lures and pike or saltwater streamers around 25 cm When #1 lacks sufficient gape but the lure does not yet require size 2/0
2/0 6 pcs Large working size Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky hardbaits, large topwater lures, streamers and stinger rigs When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider or bulkier body
3/0 5 pcs Largest size in the range Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, the largest hardbaits and topwater lures, bulky streamers and stinger assemblies For maximum gape within the 2X range; not as a substitute for heavy-duty 3X or 4X hooks

This version contains 7 treble hooks in size #2. Before first use, check the sharpness of all three points and repeat the inspection after every contact with rock, a metal boat hull or another hard obstruction. Replace a blunt or mechanically damaged point; an intact-looking finish alone does not prove that the hook remains sharp.

BKK Fangs-62 UA #2 is suitable for anglers seeking a larger yet still lightweight 2X treble hook with corrosion protection. Its main applications include pilkers, compact metal jigs and spoons around 10 cm and streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm, where sufficient point clearance matters but you also want to preserve the lure’s natural action, fall or movement of the tying material.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-62 UA #2

Which lures suit size #2?

Size #2 is a suitable starting point for proportionally matched pilkers, compact metal jigs and spoons around 10 cm, medium-sized hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm. Always confirm that the hook moves freely and that the lure body or tying material does not shield the points.

Is Fangs-62 UA #2 suitable for pilkers and compact metal jigs around 10 cm?

Yes. Based on SAF’s physical comparison, #2 is a very good starting point for proportionally matched metal lures of this length. It is not a fixed conversion, however. Body width and thickness, split-ring size, eye position and retrieve style also matter.

Is size #2 suitable for spoons measuring approximately 10 cm?

Yes, provided that it preserves their rocking and fluttering action. Size #2 offers sufficient gape while remaining lighter than #1, but after replacing the original hook, always check the spoon’s action and fall directly in the water.

How should I choose a treble-hook size for a 15–18 cm streamer?

Do not consider length alone. A sparsely dressed 18 cm streamer may work well with #2, while a shorter but very densely tied pattern may require #1. Consider the volume of the material, profile width, buoyancy and whether fur or synthetic fibres shield the points.

What is the difference between sizes #3, #2 and #1?

#3 is a finer and lighter choice for slimmer lures. #2 adds working gape and is well suited to metal lures around 10 cm and streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm. #1 is larger and better suited to pilkers around 12 cm / 80–120 g and slimmer pike streamers measuring approximately 20–24 cm.

Can this treble hook be used in saltwater?

Yes. The Ultra-Antirust finish is designed to provide increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. After fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect both the points and the finish before using it again.

Will size #2 change the action of the lure?

It can. According to the reference measurement, size #2 weighs approximately 1.24 g and may change the centre of gravity, buoyancy, water resistance or character of the fall compared with another hook. Compare the new rigging with the original setup and test the lure during a normal retrieve and free fall.
