BKK Fangs-63 UA #4 is a forged 3X treble hook for medium-sized hardbaits that need greater working gape and more robust rigging. A specific reference example is an 85 mm stickbait weighing approximately 24–28 g; this is not an automatic conversion, and the original hook, body width, split ring and actual lure action must all be checked before replacement. The pack contains 8 treble hooks.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

BKK Fangs-63 UA #4 is a medium size in the 3X range for hardbaits that already need greater working gape than #6 but do not yet require the profile of #2. Specific reference examples include 85 mm stickbaits weighing approximately 24–28 g. These are verified application points, not a fixed rule for every 85 mm hardbait or every lure within the stated weight interval.

Two stickbaits of the same length and weight may need different treble hooks. Body width and cross-section, hook-hanger positions, number of hooks, split-ring size and weight distribution all matter. With #4, the points must remain clear of the lure’s sides and the hook must rotate freely. If it repeatedly rests against the body or locks together with the other treble, a match with the reference weight alone is not enough.

The 3X class identifies a more robust construction and wire specification. It is not an exact load rating and does not automatically mean three times the strength of any other hook. Fangs-63 #4 makes sense when you need a greater strength reserve than 2X rigging provides and the lure can carry its profile and weight without an unwanted restriction of its action.

Fangs-63 uses a forged construction with a bend inspired by the O’Shaughnessy shape, a regular eye and three needle-sharp points with standard barbs. Geometry affects not only penetration but also the way the hook lies beside the lure body. Before use, check all three points and make sure none of them is concealed behind the wide side of the stickbait.

On an 85 mm stickbait weighing approximately 24–28 g, #4 is a practical starting point when its dimensions match the original hook and the lure needs a 3X reserve. On a floating model, monitor any change in buoyancy; on a sinking lure, compare sink rate and angle; and on an erratically worked stickbait, check that it can still dart from side to side without the rear becoming overloaded. A test in the water must always confirm the reference figure.

Within the Fangs-63 range, #6 is the finer neighbouring option and #2 provides greater working gape. Choose #6 if #4 adds unnecessary weight to the lure or brings the two trebles too close together. #2 makes sense when the points of #4 remain behind the sides of a bulkier body. There is no universal lure-length boundary between these sizes because the physical proportions are decisive.

Compared with Fangs-62 UA #4 carrying the same size number, Fangs-63 adds a 3X strength reserve but usually also has more influence on the weight and resistance of the rigging. Fangs-62 is the 2X choice when sensitive preservation of the original action is the priority. Fangs-63 takes precedence when the lure can carry the more robust hook and the setup genuinely needs it. The same #4 designation does not guarantee the same dimensions.

Sting-32 MT #4 follows a different construction logic in the same nominal size. It is a 2X range for freshwater and light inshore use, with an inward-turned Combat Point and a matt finish. Fangs-63 UA #4 is a 3X hook in the Fangs family with needle points and an Ultra-Antirust coating. When choosing, compare not only wire strength but also geometry, finish, weight and the effect on the specific lure.

The weight of a treble hook can change the centre of gravity, buoyancy and action frequency of a medium-sized hardbait. When replacing a lighter 2X or 1X hook, do not rely on the same size number alone. Compare the original and new rigging side by side, then test the lure during a slow retrieve, acceleration, pause and free fall. Only then can you confirm that the 3X reserve has not come at the expense of the required action.

The Ultra-Antirust coating increases corrosion resistance and is an important part of Fangs-63’s saltwater role. Size #4 can also be used in freshwater if it suits the lure and complete setup. The finish does not, however, remove the risk of mechanical damage to a point or to areas where the hook has struck rock, a structure or another hard object.

After saltwater use, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect all points, the eye, forged profile, coating and split ring. Store hooks with an Ultra-Antirust coating separately from lead items. Replace a blunt, deformed or surface-damaged hook; an intact appearance elsewhere does not confirm the sharpness of all three points.

Size Pack Position in the range Typical lures and applications When to choose Fangs-63 instead of Fangs-62
#8 8 pcs Smallest 3X size in the range Compact hardbaits and sinking stickbaits; verified examples: 60 mm / 7–9 g When the small lure can genuinely carry the more robust 3X rigging and Fangs-62 #8 does not provide the required strength reserve
#6 8 pcs Small all-round inshore size Minnows, stickbaits and smaller swimming poppers; verified examples: 65–125 mm / 15–31 g When more working gape than #8 is required, but #4 could unnecessarily affect the lure’s action or buoyancy
#4 8 pcs Compact working 3X size Stickbaits, smaller topwaters and compact metal lures; verified stickbait examples: 85 mm / 24–28 g When Fangs-62 #4 preserves the lure’s action, but the expected load calls for a greater 3X strength reserve
#2 7 pcs Medium working 3X size Poppers and sinking stickbaits around 10–12 cm; verified examples: 105 mm / 25–40 g When #4 does not provide enough gape or reserve, but #1 would add unnecessary weight to the lure
#1 7 pcs Power-oriented size for medium topwaters Stickbaits and poppers; verified examples: 130–140 mm / 30–55 g When Fangs-62 #1 does not provide the required reserve and the lure can carry the heavier 3X treble without losing its intended action
1/0 6 pcs Large all-round 3X size Larger floating and sinking stickbaits and topwaters; verified examples: 140 mm / 43–55 g When #1 does not provide enough gape, but the lure body and buoyancy do not yet require 2/0
2/0 6 pcs Large working 3X size Bigbaits, glidebaits, large stickbaits, topwaters and robust metal lures When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider body; always compare the actual dimensions with the original rigging
3/0 5 pcs Largest size in the range The largest hardbaits and topwaters, plus heavy saltwater rigging that can carry a 3X profile For maximum working gape within Fangs-63; not automatically as a replacement for a specialised heavy-duty treble hook

This version contains 8 treble hooks in size #4. SAF does not include the exact weight of one hook in the product parameters without carrying out its own physical weighing. Check all three points before first use and repeat the inspection after contact with rock, metal or another hard obstruction.

For more detailed guidance on size, working gape and the effect of hook weight on the lure, see our BKK Fangs-62 UA treble hook size guide. The article provides a lighter 2X reference map; when moving to Fangs-63, physically compare the dimensions again and test the heavier 3X rigging.

Fangs-63 UA #4 is the logical choice for a proportionally suitable medium-sized hardbait when #6 does not provide enough gape and #2 would add unnecessary profile or weight. Reference examples of 85 mm stickbaits weighing approximately 24–28 g are specific examples, not a universal limit. If lighter 2X rigging is the priority, compare Fangs-62 in the same size or the differently constructed Sting-32 MT.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-63 UA #4

Is Fangs-63 UA #4 intended only for 85 mm stickbaits?

No. An 85 mm stickbait is a specific reference example. Size #4 can also suit other proportionally compatible hardbaits, provided the points remain exposed and the lure retains the correct action.

Is 24–28 g a fixed weight range for size #4?

No. These weights belong to specific reference examples. Body width, hook-hanger positions, buoyancy, number of hooks, original rigging and retrieve style can all change the correct size.

When should I move from Fangs-63 UA #6 to #4 or #2?

Consider #4 when #6 does not provide enough gape. Move to #2 if the points of #4 remain too close to a wide body. In both cases, check freedom of movement and the lure’s action.

What do I gain by moving from Fangs-62 UA #4 to Fangs-63 UA #4?

You move from a 2X to a more robust 3X construction. At the same time, you may increase the weight and resistance of the rigging, so confirm the advantage of Fangs-63 by direct comparison and a test in the water.

Is Sting-32 MT #4 a finer alternative to Fangs-63?

It is a 2X alternative with different geometry: an inward-turned Combat Point and a matt finish for freshwater and light inshore use. It is not simply a lighter version of the same hook.

How can I confirm that #4 has not changed the stickbait’s action?

Compare it with the original hook and test the lure during a slow retrieve, acceleration, pause and fall. Monitor buoyancy, centre of gravity, side-to-side action and any tendency of the two trebles to lock together.

How should I store Fangs-63 UA #4 after saltwater fishing?

After rinsing it with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points, eye, coating and split ring. Store hooks with an Ultra-Antirust coating separately from lead items.
