Product detailed description
Westin Flashin' Anchovy 12 cm / 60 g – Mighty Mack is a compact saltwater jig / pilker with a mackerel-style baitfish pattern, strong flash and stable action during casting, retrieve and drop. Compared to the lighter 40 g version, it offers more weight, longer casting distance, better lure contact and more control in wind, current or slightly deeper water.
Flashin' Anchovy is built around a semi-long baitfish profile with flat sides. These sides create repeated flashes, a lively fluttering action and the visual signal of a small fleeing fish. That makes the 60 g version a strong choice for shore jigging, light vertical jigging and slow jigging, especially when you need to cast further, reach a bit deeper or keep better control over the lure.
The Mighty Mack colour makes strong practical sense as an imitation of a small mackerel or a similar silver baitfish. In saltwater fishing, shoals of mackerel often move into certain areas in a specific size class. Predators can quickly focus on that exact food source. When that happens, a lure with a similar length, silhouette and flash can be far more effective than a randomly chosen large pilker. Mighty Mack is therefore not just a colour option, but a practical mackerel-style match-the-hatch pattern.
In Norway, this 12 cm / 60 g version is a good choice for cod, saithe, pollack and mackerel, especially in fjords, along the coast, around edges, in shallow to medium depths or when fish are actively feeding in the water column. Compared to the 40 g version, it is better suited for situations where the lighter lure starts to lose contact, drifts too much or simply does not reach the fish effectively.
The 60 g weight is still agile, but it has more authority in the water. It casts better, reaches the working depth faster and gives the angler clearer feedback during the retrieve. That is useful when fishing from the shore, drifting from a boat or targeting fish that are not right under the surface, but where a heavy deep-water pilker would still be too much.
Flashin' Anchovy also has clear use outside Norway. In warmer saltwater destinations, similar small and medium metal jigs are used for active predators such as amberjack, snapper, grouper, bonito, barracuda and mackerel. In the right coastal conditions, a compact mackerel-style baitfish pattern can also make sense for sea trout or other coastal predators feeding on smaller silver prey.
The lure can be rigged according to your fishing style. A treble hook is a simple and traditional option, while a single assist hook or a light double assist setup is often a cleaner solution for saltwater jigging. An assist hook creates less drag, suits vertical presentations well and helps preserve the natural action of the jig in the water.
