Product detailed description
BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 is a compact stainless steel snap with swivel designed for fast lure changes and reduced line twist. It combines a practical duolock snap with a smoothly rotating swivel, making it useful wherever the lure or rig can rotate, roll or create torsion in the setup.
Typical use includes rotating and rolling lures, selected metal lures, smaller pilkers, light to medium saltwater lure fishing and other situations where you want to change the lure quickly while reducing twist in the line or braid. This is the main difference compared with a standalone snap without swivel.
BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 is not simply a “stronger snap”. It is a different type of connector than BKK Duolock Snap-51. A plain snap without swivel is usually a cleaner choice for wobblers, twitchbaits, soft lures on jig heads and hardbaits without strong rotation. A snap swivel makes more sense when you need fast lure changes and a rotating point to help reduce line twist.
One of the biggest advantages of this component is the balance between compact size and high load capacity. It allows you to build a relatively minimalistic setup without an unnecessarily large piece of metal in front of the lure, while still keeping enough strength reserve for stronger freshwater and saltwater fishing. That is why this snap swivel is useful not only for predator lure fishing in freshwater, but also for saltwater fishing where stronger loads, harsh conditions and bigger fish are part of the game.
Stainless steel construction and smooth swivel rotation matter in real use. A cheap or poorly finished snap swivel can have rough rotation, weaker closing or a less reliable connection. In a quality setup, the snap must hold securely, the swivel must rotate smoothly and the whole connection should match the level of the lure, leader and target fish.
With spoons, spinners and other metal lures, it is important to be precise. Some of them can roll or rotate during retrieve or during the fight and twist the line. In that case, a snap swivel is a more logical choice than a plain snap without swivel. On the other hand, for lures that need a clean and precise action without an extra rotating component, a standalone duolock snap can be the better option.
Correct rigging is also important. We do not recommend tying the snap directly to braided line. Between braid and the snap, use a short fluorocarbon leader, or at least monofilament. This protects the terminal part of the setup, handles contact with obstacles better and creates a cleaner connection in front of the lure. For most lure fishing situations, around 50–100 cm of fluorocarbon makes sense, depending on water clarity, target fish, lure type and fishing style.
BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 fits naturally into a quality terminal tackle setup. If you use better lures, smaller pilkers, saltwater lures, wobblers or SAF PLASTI-X, it makes no sense to finish the setup with a cheap no-name snap swivel. The connector should match the level of the whole rig and the fish you are targeting.
Frequently asked questions – BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51
What is the difference between BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 and BKK Duolock Snap-51?
BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 is a snap with swivel. It is useful when the lure or rig can rotate and twist the line or braid. BKK Duolock Snap-51 is a standalone snap without swivel for cleaner connections with lures that do not rotate strongly.
When should I use a snap with swivel?
A snap with swivel makes sense with rotating and rolling lures, selected metal lures, smaller pilkers and rigs where twist can be transferred into the line or braid. The swivel helps reduce torsion in the setup.
Is it suitable for both freshwater and saltwater fishing?
Yes. Thanks to stainless steel construction, compact design and high load capacity, it can be used for freshwater lure fishing as well as light to medium saltwater fishing. After fishing in saltwater, rinse metal components with freshwater and let them dry properly.
Is it suitable for wobblers and soft lures?
If the wobbler, twitchbait or soft lure on a jig head does not rotate strongly, a standalone snap without swivel is often the cleaner choice. A snap swivel makes the most sense when you need to deal with rotation, lure rolling or line twist.
Can I tie BKK Duolock Snap Swivel-51 directly to braided line?
Technically yes, but for standard lure fishing it is not ideal. In practice, we recommend using a fluorocarbon or monofilament leader between the braid and the snap, most often around 50–100 cm. The setup is cleaner, stronger in the terminal section and better prepared for contact with fish, rocks, shells or other obstacles.
Which size should I choose?
Choose the size according to the lure, target fish and overall strength of the setup. Smaller sizes make sense for lighter lure fishing and smaller lures, while larger sizes are better for pike, stronger freshwater lure fishing, smaller pilkers and saltwater use where more safety margin is needed.
