Product detailed description
ICE Fish Banana Pilker – Red is the stronger trigger colour version of the well-known banana-shaped pilker for sea fishing in Norway. The lure is built around a curved body that does not simply drop straight down like a standard piece of metal. During the fall, it creates a more irritating action similar to a falling leaf, making it interesting when fish react to movement, rhythm change and a stronger visual signal.
The banana-shaped body is the key difference compared to a classic straight pilker. During the fall, the lure can show more side flash, move with a livelier action and create a different underwater signal than straighter models such as the ICE Fish NOR. This can be an advantage when fishing in drift, around edges, banks, hard bottom and depth changes, or whenever you want to offer a more aggressive presentation than a standard pilker.
The red version has a different role than the silver finish. While the silver Banana Pilker is built mainly around natural baitfish flash, the red colour is stronger, more visible and more aggressive. It makes sense in lower light, deeper water, less clear conditions or when fish are not reacting to a natural silver flash and you want to send a clearer trigger signal into the water.
In Norway, the red ICE Fish Banana Pilker is especially useful for heavier boat pilking, deeper areas, stronger current and faster drift. The available weights of 300 g, 400 g and 500 g are not light coastal toys. These are proper heavy saltwater pilkers for situations where you need to get the lure down, keep contact and still offer a livelier action than a straight metal pilker.
This model makes the most sense for cod, coalfish, ling and other saltwater predators depending on the area and conditions. When fished with a small piece of herring or mackerel, it can also be interesting for hake and larger cod. Halibut can appear as a situational catch, but we would not position this pilker as a primary halibut lure.
The standard rigging uses a rear treble hook with a red protective tube. The front section includes large enough rings and a swivel that allow the lure to move more freely. There is also an additional eye in the middle of the body, which can be used for extra rigging with another hook or treble hook. This makes the Banana Pilker interesting not only as a standard lure, but also for anglers who like to adapt their setup to depth, target species and fishing style.
For more demanding saltwater fishing, it also makes sense to think about upgrading the terminal rigging. The Banana body itself works well – with lures of this type, the weaker link can often be the hook, ring or terminal connection. If you are targeting stronger fish, fishing deep or dealing with stronger drift, we recommend considering a better saltwater treble hook and a stronger split ring.
A very good upgrade option can be the BKK Raptor-Z. A stronger and sharper treble hook improves hook penetration and gives you more confidence when fighting powerful saltwater fish. The point is not to say that the standard rigging is unusable – the point is that a working pilker body can be upgraded into a more reliable setup for tougher Norwegian conditions.
More experienced anglers can also take the Banana Pilker in a more modern direction. Depending on the fishing style, the rear treble hook can be removed and the lure can be rigged from the front eye with a single or double assist hook. This setup comes from modern jigging and can make sense for vertical fishing, heavier tackle or situations where you want to reduce leverage caused by a longer metal body.
The red ICE Fish Banana Pilker is an ideal addition to the silver version. Silver is more natural and universal, while red is stronger and more aggressive. If you are preparing a lure box for Norway, it makes sense to carry both colours – silver as the natural baitfish option and red for situations where you need more contrast, deeper presentation or a stronger trigger signal.
You can find suitable related gear in the categories saltwater pilkers, saltwater hooks and treble hooks and BKK treble hooks. For rigging upgrades, we also recommend stronger split rings, assist hooks and pliers for changing hooks and rings.
FAQ – ICE Fish Banana Pilker Red
What is the difference between the red and silver version?
The silver version is more natural and works mainly through metallic baitfish flash. The red version is stronger, more visible and more aggressive. It is especially useful in lower light, deeper water, less clear conditions or when fish are not reacting to natural silver flash.
What fish is the ICE Fish Banana Pilker Red suitable for?
In Norway, we recommend it mainly for cod, coalfish and ling. When fished with a small piece of herring or mackerel, it can also be interesting for hake and larger cod. Halibut should be seen more as a situational possibility, not as the main target species for this pilker.
Why does the Banana Pilker have a curved body?
The curved banana-shaped body helps the lure work with a livelier action during the fall than a completely straight pilker. It can create more movement, side flash and a different falling rhythm, which can be useful when fish react to action and presentation changes.
When should I choose the red Banana Pilker instead of the silver one?
Choose the red version in deeper water, lower light, stronger drift or less clear conditions. It also makes sense when you want a more aggressive lure with a stronger visual signal.
Which weight of the red Banana Pilker should I choose?
The red version is available in heavier weights of 300 g, 400 g and 500 g. The 300 g version is the lighter option in this heavy range, 400 g is a strong all-round choice for deeper water, and 500 g helps in stronger current, faster drift and more demanding conditions.
Does it make sense to replace the original treble hook?
For regular use, the standard treble hook may be enough. If you are fishing for larger fish in Norway, fishing deep or dealing with stronger drift, upgrading to a quality saltwater treble hook and stronger split ring makes very good sense.
Is BKK Raptor-Z a good upgrade?
Yes. BKK Raptor-Z is a very good premium option for anglers who want to improve the reliability of the terminal rigging. It offers better strength, sharpness and hook-up confidence compared to basic hooks.
Can the ICE Fish Banana Pilker be rigged with assist hooks?
Yes. More experienced anglers can remove the rear treble hook and rig the lure with a single or double assist hook from the front eye. This is a modern jigging-inspired setup and can make sense for vertical fishing or heavier saltwater use.
