Product detailed description

Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT Fly Rod is a short single-hand fly rod range for small brooks, narrow streams, overgrown banks and situations where a classic 9ft rod is simply too long. These rods are not built around maximum distance first. Their real strength is quick handling, short to medium range accuracy, clean fly presentation and better control in places where there is no room for a normal backcast.

The foundation of the range is formed by two Brook models – 7'2" #3 and 8' #4. Both have a smooth Mid Flex action with Medium Fast / Fast Recovery. The blank loads quickly in the tip and mid section, which makes it easy to work with small hand movements, short casts, roll casts and precise presentations under trees. When fighting fish, the rod bends progressively deeper into the blank, helping to protect thin leaders and cushion sudden movements from trout, char or grayling.

On small streams, a shorter rod makes a real practical difference. It lets you stand closer to the water, react faster, guide the fly more accurately around stones, roots and branches, and work the line at distances where a longer rod often becomes clumsy. The shorter Brook models are excellent for dry flies, small nymphs, light wet flies and delicate fishing on brooks and small rivers.

The special 7'6" #3/4/5 TLT model has a different character. TLT stands for Tecnica Lancio Totale, the Italian style of very precise and energetic casting with light lines. This rod has a faster progressive action, creates very narrow loops and gives the angler the ability to place the fly low under branches or into small windows between obstacles. It is not just a soft small-stream rod – with the right technique, it can handle a wide range of lines from DT #3 to WF #5 depending on the fishing situation.

The Elevation series also follows Guideline’s more responsible construction philosophy. The blank has a matte, lightly buffed graphite-grey finish without extra colouring, the reel seat uses clear anodized aluminium without chrome plating, the grip is made from 3A cork without rubber cork reinforcement, and bio-based low-toxic epoxy is used in the production process. The rod bag and tube cover are made from recycled REPREVE™ polyester, while the rod tube itself is made from recyclable polypropylene.

Size Length Line weight Pieces Rec. line / weight Weight Tube length Best use
7'2" #3 7'2" / 219 cm #3 3 7–9 g / 110–140 grains 56 g 83 cm smallest brooks, short casts, dry fly

8' #4 8' / 244 cm #4 3 9–11 g / 140–170 grains 63 g 92 cm more versatile brook rod, small rivers, lakes

The 7'2" #3 is the shortest and most delicate Brook model. It is made for the smallest brooks, overgrown banks, short casts and situations where you need to place a dry fly or light nymph precisely into a tiny window between branches. This is a rod for technical, enjoyable and very close-contact fishing on small water.

The 8' #4 is the more versatile Brook option. It still remains short and agile, but adds length, a stronger line class and better line control. It suits small rivers, wider brooks, longer presentations, slightly larger flies and even calm lake fishing or small stillwaters surprisingly well.

The 7'6" #3/4/5 TLT is the most technical model in the range. If you know why you want a short fast rod for precise loops, a low line path and energetic presentations in tight spaces, the TLT model makes a lot of sense. It is not the simplest all-round rod for everyone, but in the hands of an angler who can use its fast progressive action, it delivers exceptional accuracy and fly control.

Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT is supplied as a 3-piece rod with a rod bag and tube. It works best with lighter presentations, thin leaders and fly lines designed for small waters – especially the Brook WF concept that Guideline developed for this style of fishing.

Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT Fly Rod

Who is Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT made for?

It is made for anglers fishing small brooks, overgrown streams, tight banks and places where a classic 9ft rod is too long. The Brook models are excellent for delicate small-stream fishing, while the TLT model is a more technical option for precise and energetic casting in limited space.

Which Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT size should I choose?

Choose 7'2" #3 for the smallest brooks, short casts and delicate dry fly fishing. Choose 8' #4 if you want a more versatile short rod for small rivers, longer presentations and a wider range of flies. Choose 7'6" #3/4/5 TLT if you want a faster technical rod for the Italian TLT style, narrow loops and precise casts under branches.

What does TLT mean?

TLT stands for Tecnica Lancio Totale. It is an Italian casting style based on light lines, high line speed, narrow loops and precise presentation in technically demanding spaces. The TLT model is not just a weaker Brook rod – it has a faster progressive action and a different purpose.

Is Elevation Brook suitable for dry fly fishing?

Yes. The Brook models are very suitable for dry flies, small nymphs and delicate small-stream presentations. The short blank helps in overgrown spaces, and the Mid Flex action protects thin leaders during both the take and the fight.

Is the 8' #4 more versatile than the 7'2" #3?

Yes. The 8' #4 handles wider brooks, small rivers, longer presentations, slightly larger flies and calm lake fishing better. The 7'2" #3 is the finer and more agile model for the smallest waters and short technical casts.

Does the rod come with a tube?

Yes. Guideline Elevation Brook & TLT is supplied as a 3-piece rod with a rod bag and tube. The Elevation series uses recycled REPREVE™ polyester for the rod bag and tube cover and a recyclable polypropylene tube.
