Product detailed description

Guideline Elevation Single Hand Rod is the main all-round single-hand fly rod range in the Elevation concept. It is made for anglers who want a light, modern and easy-casting rod with clean action, strong fishing performance and a more accessible price level than premium series such as NT11 or LPX. Elevation is not a basic soft rod – it is a proper working fly rod for a wide range of modern fly fishing situations.

The blank has a Mid / Tip Flex character with Fast Recovery. In practice, this means a sensitive, protective and stable tip section, a smooth progressive load through the middle part of the rod and a powerful lower blank section. The rod loads easily, forgives small timing mistakes and still has enough speed and stability to create accurate loops at higher line speed.

The strength of the Elevation Single Hand range is that it is not limited to one narrow technique. The lighter models make sense for dry fly fishing, nymphing, smaller streamers and classic trout work on rivers. Stronger models move naturally into larger flies, wind, lakes, streamers, pike, sea trout, coastal fishing and situations where a standard trout rod does not have enough reserve.

Guideline also puts strong focus on cleaner construction and reduced environmental impact in the Elevation series. The blank has a matte, lightly buffed graphite-grey finish without unnecessary added colour. Reel seat components use clear anodizing without chrome plating or painted baths, the grips use 3A cork without rubber cork reinforcement, and bio-based low-toxic epoxies are used for coatings and assembly. The rod bag and tube cover are made from recycled REPREVE™ polyester, while the rod tube itself is made from recyclable polypropylene.

Unlike the shorter Elevation Brook models or the dedicated Elevation Nymph rods, Elevation Single Hand is the main all-round range for everyday single-hand fly fishing. If you want one quality Guideline rod for many different waters and techniques, this is the natural starting point. Models around #4 to #6 are naturally trout-focused, while stronger #7 to #9 models open the door to larger fish, streamers, coastal work, lake fishing and migratory trout situations.

Size Length Line weight Pieces Character Best use
9' #4 9' / 274 cm #4 4 lighter trout dry fly, light nymphs, smaller rivers
9' #5 9' / 274 cm #5 4 main trout all-rounder dry fly, nymphs, small streamers
9' #6 9' / 274 cm #6 4 stronger all-round larger flies, wind, lake, streamer
9' #7 9' / 274 cm #7 4 streamer / migratory trout streamers, stronger fish, coast, pike
9'9" #8 9'9" / 297 cm #8 4 extra reach and control lakes, coast, sea trout, larger streamers
10' #9 10' / 305 cm #9 4 power single hand stillwater, coast, pike, stronger fish

The 9' #4 is the lightest option for delicate trout fishing, dry flies and smaller waters. The 9' #5 is the classic all-round trout model and the safest choice for most regular river fishing – dry fly, nymphing, small streamers and long days on the water.

The 9' #6 adds extra reserve for larger flies, wind, lake fishing and streamer work. The 9' #7 is already a stronger single-hand rod for larger streamers, sea trout, pike, migratory trout and situations where you still want a single-hand rod, but need more power.

The 9'9" #8 is an interesting longer model for more reach, better line control and fishing larger waters. It suits lakes, coastal fishing, sea trout and bigger flies. The 10' #9 is the strongest version in the current SAF product setup and is aimed at stillwater fishing, stronger fish, larger streamers, coastal use and situations where both rod length and blank reserve matter.

Guideline Elevation Single Hand Rod is supplied as a multi-piece rod with a rod bag and tube. It makes sense as a main single-hand Guideline rod, a universal working rod for several types of water, or a more accessible alternative to higher-priced premium series when you still want a modern blank, good action and clean construction.

Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline Elevation Single Hand Rod

Who is Guideline Elevation Single Hand Rod made for?

It is made for anglers who want a light, modern and versatile single-hand rod with a smooth medium-fast action. It suits trout, grayling, lake fishing, streamers, coastal use and stronger models for bigger fish.

Which size should I choose for regular trout fishing?

The most classic choice is 9' #5. If you want a more delicate rod for smaller waters and dry fly fishing, choose 9' #4. If you fish larger flies, wind or lakes more often, choose 9' #6.

When should I choose a stronger #7 to #9 model?

Stronger models make sense for streamers, bigger fish, pike, sea trout, coastal fishing, lakes and situations where a standard trout rod does not have enough power for larger flies or tougher conditions.

Is Elevation Single Hand suitable for beginners?

Yes. The action is easy to understand, forgiving and smooth-loading. At the same time, it has enough precision and performance for more experienced anglers who want a proper working rod.

What is the difference between Elevation Single Hand, Elevation Brook and Elevation Nymph?

Elevation Brook & TLT is a short specialist range for small waters and technical casts in limited space. Elevation Nymph is a dedicated rod series for modern nymphing and euro nymphing. Elevation Single Hand Rod is the main all-round range for regular single-hand fly fishing.

What makes the Elevation series more responsible?

Guideline uses a matte uncoloured blank, clear-anodized reel seat components without chrome plating, 3A cork without rubber cork reinforcement, bio-based low-toxic epoxies, recycled REPREVE™ polyester for the rod bag and tube cover, and recyclable polypropylene rod tubes.
