Guideline LPX Coastal
Code: GL111058Product detailed description
Guideline LPX Coastal Fly Rod is a specialist single-hand fly rod series for coastal and tropical fly fishing. It is designed for situations where a standard trout rod is not enough – stronger wind, larger streamers, fast second shots, saltwater conditions, hard takes and fish that immediately test the lower part of the blank.
LPX Coastal makes sense for European coastal sea trout fishing, larger streamers on lakes and rivers, pike, lighter flats fishing, bonefish, permit, baby tarpon, barracuda, jacks, GT, halibut, pollack, tuna and other powerful saltwater species. This is not simply a “stronger 9ft rod”. It is a purpose-built coastal / saltwater tool where line speed, fly control, component durability and long-session casting comfort all matter.
The new carbon layup creates a very light-tip feeling. The rod accelerates quickly throughout the casting stroke, but it does not feel like an unforgiving broomstick. Compared with earlier Guideline saltwater models, LPX Coastal is lighter, crisper, livelier and has a slightly more tolerant curve under load. This is important in wind, where the angler often starts to overpower the rod or use too much wrist without even noticing it.
The blank is based on C.A.P M4.0™ technology combined with a unidirectional carbon fibre structure. Complex Axial Pattern uses prepreg layers placed at different angles to create strength and stability in several directions, not only lengthwise. The result is low weight, fast recovery, clean tracking and enough power in the lower blank when fighting stronger fish.
Guideline also puts strong focus on more responsible components and production in the LPX Coastal series. The blanks are not ground, PP shrink tape is used, low VOC epoxies are applied for assembly and coating, the rod bag and tube cover are made from recycled polyester, and the low-diameter rod tube is made from polypropylene. The tube uses a YKK NATULON zipper with a high percentage of chemically recycled polyester. The grips are made from Super Grade cork, the fighting butts use formamide-free EVA endings, and the stripping guides are full titanium with lightweight Zirconia inserts.

9' #6, 9' #7 and 9' #8 are the most important choices for European coastal fishing. They make sense for sea trout, larger streamers, wind, shallow flats and situations where you need fast line speed, accurate presentation and good fly control during long sessions. #6 is the lighter and more delicate option, #7 is the main coastal all-rounder, and #8 adds more reserve for wind, bigger flies, pike or bonefish.
9' #9 and 9' #10 are the tropical all-rounders. The #9 makes sense for permit, jacks, windy bonefish or pike, while the #10 moves into baby tarpon, barracuda, bigger permit and other species where more rod power is needed both in the cast and during the fight.
9' #11 and 9' #12 are the power models for big fish. They are useful for tropical big game fly fishing for tarpon, GT and other gamefish, but also for colder saltwater environments where halibut, pollack, tuna or other strong species require large flies, powerful lines and a blank that can be loaded deep into the lower section.
LPX Coastal is supplied as a 4-piece rod with a rod bag and tube. With this series it is especially important to match the rod with a fast coastal or saltwater WF line, because the line determines how quickly the rod loads in wind, how well it turns over larger flies and how accurately it delivers a second shot at fish.
Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline LPX Coastal Fly Rod
Who is Guideline LPX Coastal made for?
It is made for anglers fishing coastlines, saltwater, tropical flats or stronger streamers. LPX Coastal makes sense wherever you need a fast, light and durable fly rod for wind, larger flies, quick presentations and stronger fish.
Is LPX Coastal suitable for sea trout?
Yes. For European coastal sea trout fishing, the most useful sizes are #6, #7 and #8. #6 is the lighter option for calmer conditions, #7 is the main coastal all-rounder, and #8 adds more reserve for wind, larger flies and tougher conditions.
Which size should I choose for tropical fly fishing?
The most versatile tropical choices are #8, #9 and #10. #8 is a lighter flats / bonefish option, #9 is excellent for permit, jacks and wind, and #10 makes sense for baby tarpon, barracuda or bigger permit.
When do #11 or #12 make sense?
Sizes #11 and #12 are designed for tarpon, GT, halibut, pollack, tuna and other powerful saltwater or tropical species. They are made for large flies, strong lines and fish that require real reserve in the lower part of the blank.
Is LPX Coastal a stiff rod?
It is fast and powerful, but not unnecessarily unforgiving. The light tip, fast recovery and more tolerant loading curve help during long casting sessions, windy conditions and situations where the angler accidentally overpowers the rod under pressure.
How is LPX Coastal different from NT11 Saline?
NT11 Saline is Guideline’s top premium saltwater range with T1100 CAP construction and maximum performance. LPX Coastal is a very well-built, fast, light and more eco-focused coastal / saltwater series at a more accessible level, covering a wide range of coastal and tropical fly fishing.
