Guideline LPX Tactical
Code: GL106473Product detailed description
Guideline LPX Tactical Fly Rod is a premium single-hand trout rod range for anglers who want an ultralight, precise and lively rod with excellent control of presentation. This is not a generic all-round rod without a clear purpose. LPX Tactical is built for dry fly fishing, nymphing, euro nymphing, fine tippets, accurate loops, technical line control and situations where the connection between hand, fly line, leader and fish really matters.
The rod has a Mid / Tip Flex action with Fast Recovery. At shorter distances, the tip and middle section provide sensitivity, control and protection for fine tippets. When the rod is loaded more deeply, the lower blank gradually engages and adds stability, power and control at longer distance. The result is a rod that can be delicate and highly effective at the same time, without feeling stiff, harsh or disconnected.
The blank is based on C.A.P M4.0™ blank construction technology. Guideline combines Complex Axial Pattern with unidirectional carbon fibre layups to create low weight, multi-directional stability, fast recovery and clean line tracking. In a trout rod, this has a direct practical effect: tighter loops, better drift control, less hand fatigue and faster reaction when changing distance, presentation style or fly size.
LPX Tactical is special because it combines two qualities that are not always easy to find in one trout rod – high casting performance and excellent protection of very fine tippets. The rod handles delicate dry flies, light nymphs and technical river work, but still carries enough energy for longer casts, wind, smaller streamers and lake situations.
The 9ft models are classic lightweight trout rods. The lighter 9' #2 and 9' #3 are designed for the finest dry fly fishing, light nymphs and technical presentations with thin tippets. The 9' #4 and 9' #5 are the main all-round trout sizes for dry flies, nymphs and everyday river fishing.
The longer 9'9" models represent Guideline’s modern approach to a combination rod for dry fly, nymphing, euro nymphing and lighter streamer fishing. The added length improves reach, leader contact, drift control, mending and cast height management. This matters on high banks, with bushes behind you, when wading deep or when fishing from a belly boat.
The 10ft #6 and #7 models are stronger tools for lake and boat fishing, long leaders, multiple-fly rigs and sweep-style fishing. The longer blank keeps more line off the water when sitting in a boat or wading deep and gives extra leverage when working longer setups.
| Size | Length | Line weight | Character | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9' #2 | 9' / 274 cm | #2 | finest tactical model | dry fly, tiny waters, fine tippets |
| 9' #3 | 9' / 274 cm | #3 | delicate trout | dry fly, light nymphs, technical fishing |
| 9' #4 | 9' / 274 cm | #4 | all-round dry/nymph | rivers, dry flies, nymphs, small lakes |
| 9' #5 | 9' / 274 cm | #5 | main all-rounder | trout all-round, dry/nymph, everyday river |
| 9'9" #6 | 9'9" / 297 cm | #6 | longer control | reach, mending, lake, small streamers, wind |
| 10' #7 | 10' / 305 cm | #7 | lake / boat power | boat, long leaders, multiple flies, stronger streamers |
The 9' #2 is the finest rod in the current SAF variant setup. It makes sense for very delicate dry fly fishing, tiny waters, spooky trout, fine leaders and situations where presentation matters more than power. The 9' #3 is still delicate, but adds more versatility for light nymphs and slightly broader trout fishing.
The 9' #4 and 9' #5 are the most universal trout sizes. Choose #4 if you prefer finer presentations, smaller flies and technical dry/nymph fishing. Choose #5 as the main all-round trout rod for most rivers, dry flies, nymphs and general use.
The 9'9" #6 adds more reach and control. It is useful when you want a longer rod for better drift management, mending, fishing from a belly boat, lake work, slightly larger flies or wind. The 10' #7 is the strongest version in the current setup and is aimed at lake fishing, boat-style fly fishing, long leaders, multiple-fly rigs and stronger streamer work.
LPX Tactical rods use Super Grade cork grips, premium wood reel seat inserts, matte hard-anodized metal parts, titanium stripper guides with zirconia inserts and semi-matte PVD coated single-leg guides. The series is delivered with recycled polyester rod bags and strong polypropylene tubes with recycled polyester fabric covers.
Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline LPX Tactical Fly Rod
Who is Guideline LPX Tactical made for?
It is made for trout anglers who care about presentation, accuracy, low swing weight, direct line contact and fine-tippet protection. It is suitable for dry fly fishing, nymphing, euro nymphing, technical river fishing and selected lake or streamer setups.
Which LPX Tactical size should I choose for regular trout fishing?
The safest all-round choice is 9' #5. Choose 9' #4 for a slightly finer dry fly and nymph rod, or 9' #3 if you mostly fish delicate presentations with light flies and thin tippets.
When does the 9'9" #6 model make sense?
The 9'9" #6 makes sense when you want more reach, better drift control, easier mending, more line height when wading or fishing from a belly boat, and extra strength for smaller streamers, lakes or wind.
What is the 10' #7 model used for?
The 10' #7 is the strongest model in the current SAF variant setup. It suits lake fishing, boat-style fly fishing, long leaders, multiple flies and stronger streamers where extra rod length and power are helpful.
Is LPX Tactical only for advanced anglers?
No. The action is smooth and user-friendly enough for many anglers, but its real strength will be most appreciated by someone who already works with accuracy, loop control, presentation and line contact.
How is LPX Tactical different from LPX Nymph?
LPX Nymph is a dedicated euro nymphing rod range. LPX Tactical is broader: it covers dry fly, nymphing, euro nymphing, technical trout fishing, lake situations and selected streamer use depending on model.
What makes LPX Tactical environmentally more responsible?
Guideline uses GL ECO-Tech™ blank production without grinding, low-toxic resins, titanium stripper guides, PVD coated running guides instead of chrome plating, recycled polyester rod bags and polypropylene rod tubes with recycled polyester fabric covers.
