Product detailed description
BKK Fangs-62 UA 2/0 is the second size in the aught range and sits between the more versatile 1/0 and the largest 3/0 version. It is designed for lures on which size 1/0 no longer provides enough working clearance around the body, while you still want to retain the lighter character of the 2X series. Size 2/0 is particularly well suited to correctly proportioned pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky wobblers, jerkbaits, stickbaits and topwater lures, as well as large stinger rigs and streamers.
Compared with 1/0, it provides a wider gape and a more pronounced working profile. This matters on a broad-bodied pilker, a bulky hardbait or a heavily dressed lure because the points need enough free space around the lure. Simply moving to a larger hook does not automatically produce better hook-ups. The hook must match the proportions of the lure, must not repeatedly catch on its body and should not unnecessarily alter its centre of gravity or the character of its fall.
The 2X designation describes the wire and strength class. Fangs-62 is not a delicate 1X treble, but it is not a heavy-duty model intended for extreme saltwater fishing either. Its construction sits between lightweight replacement hooks and robust 3X or 4X series. This balance is especially important in size 2/0: the hook already provides a large working gape and substantial practical strength without loading the lure as heavily as a true heavy-duty treble designed for extreme popping or the largest tropical fish.
The geometry is based on the traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank and needle-sharp points with standard barbs. According to the manufacturer, forging increases strength by approximately 20% compared with equivalent non-forged hooks. The long, gradually tapered points promote initial penetration, but the result always depends on the complete setup: the sharpness of all three points, the correct split-ring size, leader strength, drag setting and the angle at which the fish takes the lure.
The hook is made from BKK-81WV high-carbon steel and protected by the Ultra-Antirust (UA) finish. The coating was developed with an emphasis on corrosion resistance in saltwater, making Fangs-62 a natural choice for saltwater spinning, jigging and inshore fishing. It can also be used in freshwater for large pike and other predators. Corrosion resistance does not mean maintenance-free: after fishing in saltwater, rinse the hooks with fresh water, allow them to dry completely and inspect both the points and the finish.
On 200–250 g pilkers and speed jigs, size 2/0 becomes particularly useful when a wider or bulkier lure body needs more clearance between the points and the side of the lure. A hook that is too small may be partly shielded by the body and lose effective gape. A heavy-duty treble that is too heavy can pull down the rear of the pilker, accelerate its fall and suppress side-to-side movement or flutter. Fangs-62 UA 2/0 provides a large working gape while retaining the sensible weight of a 2X construction.
SAF recommendation for size 2/0: based on a physical comparison of the hook with suitable lures, 2/0 is a very good starting point for correctly proportioned pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g when their construction and intended fishing method call for a treble hook. This weight range is a practical guide, not a fixed conversion. Body width and shape, eye position, split-ring size, target species, drag setting and retrieve style all matter. Once fitted, check that the hook does not foul the lure and that its movement and fall remain clear and natural.
If the pilker is narrower, lighter or particularly sensitive to a change in balance, size 1/0 may be the better choice; SAF recommends it as a starting point for approximately 150–200 g. Size 2/0 adds clearance for heavier and wider lures around 200–250 g. Size 3/0 should be considered only when the lure body or rigging method requires even more free space. A physical comparison with the lure always takes priority over choosing solely by lure weight.
On large hardbaits and topwater lures, size 2/0 can provide sufficient clearance between the points and a bulky body. When replacing the original hook, compare the overall height, gape, shank length and weight. Hook sizing is not standardised across brands, and two trebles marked 2/0 may have different geometry. On floating or precisely balanced lures, a change in hook weight can affect buoyancy, resting position and the response of the lure during a pause.
Size 2/0 can also be used on bulky pike and saltwater streamers when 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around the dressing or the body of the fly. Streamer length alone is not the deciding factor. The amount of hair and synthetic material, stinger position, buoyancy and the width of the complete profile all matter. For pike or saltwater streamers around 25 cm, size 1/0 is generally the main starting point; 2/0 makes sense on bulkier patterns and rigs where extra working clearance matters more than keeping hook weight to an absolute minimum.
Fangs-62 UA 2/0 is not intended to replace heavy-duty trebles for the largest GT, tuna or extreme popping. Where maximum resistance to opening is the overriding priority and hook weight does not restrict lure action, a reinforced Fangs-63, Raptor or Viper model may be more appropriate depending on the technique. Fangs-62 serves a different purpose: to provide a large gape, reliable 2X strength and strong corrosion protection without an unnecessary weight penalty.
The BKK Fangs-62 UA size guide is an orientation map for the complete range, not a fixed conversion between lure length or weight and hook size. Before final rigging, always compare the hook physically with the lure, the original hook, the split ring and the available freedom of movement.
| Size | Pack | Position in the range | Typical lures and applications | When to consider this size |

| 2/0 | 6pcs | Large working size | Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky hardbaits, large topwaters, streamers and stinger rigs | When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider or bulkier lure body |
| 3/0 | 5pcs | Largest size in the range | The largest hardbaits and topwaters, large pilkers and speed jigs, and bulky stinger rigs | For maximum gape within the 2X range, not as a replacement for heavy-duty 3X or 4X hooks |
This version contains 6 treble hooks in size 2/0. Before first use, check the sharpness of all three points and repeat the inspection after every contact with rock, a metal boat hull or another hard obstacle. Replace a blunt or mechanically damaged point; an intact-looking finish alone does not confirm that the point is still sharp.
BKK Fangs-62 UA 2/0 is intended for anglers looking for a large, corrosion-protected treble hook with a pronounced gape and sensible weight. Its main applications range from pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g through bulky hardbaits to large streamers and stinger rigs on which size 1/0 no longer provides the required working clearance.
Frequently asked questions — BKK Fangs-62 UA 2/0
Which lures suit size 2/0?
Size 2/0 is suitable for correctly proportioned pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky wobblers, jerkbaits, stickbaits and topwaters, as well as large streamers and stinger rigs. Always check that the hook does not catch on the lure body or restrict its movement.
What is the difference between sizes 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0?
Size 1/0 is the lighter and more versatile choice for large lures and pilkers of approximately 150–200 g. Size 2/0 adds clearance for wider lures and the 200–250 g range. Size 3/0 is the largest version and makes sense where even 2/0 does not provide enough room around the lure body. Hook sizing is not standardised across brands, so always compare a replacement physically with the original hook.
Is Fangs-62 UA 2/0 suitable for 200–250 g pilkers and speed jigs?
Yes. Based on SAF’s physical comparison, size 2/0 is a very good starting point for correctly proportioned pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g when their design and intended fishing method call for a treble hook. Lure weight is only a guide; body width, split-ring size, target species and fishing technique also matter.
Is size 2/0 suitable for large streamers?
Yes, particularly when the volume of the dressing or the position of the stinger requires more clearance than size 1/0 can provide. Size 1/0 is generally the starting point for streamers around 25 cm; 2/0 is better suited to bulkier patterns, wider profiles and rigs where working clearance matters more than the lowest possible hook weight.
Can I use this treble hook in saltwater?
Yes. The Ultra-Antirust finish is designed to provide increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. After fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points and finish for damage before using it again.
Will size 2/0 change the action of a pilker or hardbait?
It can. A larger treble changes the weight, centre of gravity and hydrodynamic resistance of the setup. Compare it with the original hook and, after fitting, check the fall, side-to-side movement, buoyancy and freedom of movement directly in the water.
When should I choose a stronger treble hook than Fangs-62?
Choose a stronger 3X or 4X model for power fishing for very large fish, heavy popping or situations in which resistance to opening matters more than hook weight and preservation of lure action. Fangs-62 is a balanced 2X series, not an extreme-duty hook for the largest GT and tuna.
