ICE fish Fleuron 1.20 mm belongs to SAF’s heaviest sea-leader class. Its primary role is the body or terminal section of a substantial natural-bait rig for large ling and halibut. Choose this large cross-section for the actual rig design and demanding use. This version is not recommended for ordinary cod tube-eel rigs.

The pack contains 100 m of leader material. On a fish-bait rig, first plan the main section, hook or hook arrangement and sinker attachment. Match the length to the bait, its intended movement and manageable handling beside the boat. Lay out the components and check that the thick material passes through every eye and that the hardware suits the complete tackle.

Ahead of a large soft bait or jig, the short leader forms a separate section between the main line and lure. Around one metre is a practical starting example rather than a compulsory length for every setup. Check lure movement and manageable handling when landing a fish. The leader is not a finished stinger: a stinger carries hooks along the soft body and needs fittings designed for the actual lure.

Select the crimp sleeve for the actual diameter and connection design, rather than from breaking strain or the sleeve’s external size label alone. Its bore must suit the material path and the component manufacturer’s guidance. Use the designated crimping tool, inspect the eye for sharp edges and keep the tag end in position while preparing the crimp. Follow the procedure for the sleeve and tool: an unsuitable crimp can damage the material or fail to secure it. Test each newly selected connection under controlled tension before fishing.

Compared with a finer version, the larger cross-section also brings bulkier end connections and a less supple rig. Choose 1.20 mm when the heavy-leader design actually calls for it. For a finer setup, select an appropriate smaller diameter rather than trying to tie conventional leader knots in this thick material. Check swivel movement, snap closure and smooth eye surfaces before completing the rig.

The existing 70 kg figure in the parameters is not a fish weight you can lift by the leader or a guarantee of finished-rig strength. Crimped connections, hardware, wear and shock loading also affect the result. Thick leader material is not guaranteed bite protection. After contact with a fish, rock or snag, inspect the surface and areas beside sleeves; replace cut or flattened sections. Rinse used rigs in fresh water, let them dry and store them without sharp folds, away from heat and direct sunlight.
