Product detailed description
Westin Crazy Daisy Jig 18 cm / 180 g – Mackerel is a large saltwater jig for Norway fishing, built around a strong baitfish profile, stable action and the option to adjust the presentation according to fish activity. It is not a standard soft lure and it is not a classic pilk. Crazy Daisy belongs among halibut jigs and large sea softbaits – larger soft lures for boat fishing, bottom work, fishing just above the bottom, drift and more targeted fishing for powerful saltwater fish.
The 18 cm / 180 g version has its own clear role. It is not simply a smaller or cheaper version of the 300 g model. This size makes sense when you want to present a larger baitfish meal, but still keep the lure close to the natural size of the prey and maintain better control. In Norway fishing, that can be very important – mackerel often move in shoals sorted by size, and when smaller fish around 15–20 cm are present, an 18 cm mackerel-profile lure can look much more natural than an oversized model.
The Mackerel colour is not just a nice pattern on the package. Mackerel is an important prey fish in the North Atlantic and also a commonly used natural bait. The darker back, lighter sides and typical mackerel pattern create a clear baitfish profile that makes sense when targeting large cod, coalfish and, in the right situation, also halibut. This colour is especially strong in clearer water, daylight conditions and places where predators are feeding on smaller mackerel or similar-sized baitfish.
Crazy Daisy is also interesting because the package contains 1 jig head and 2 different bodies. One body is better suited to a slower, more pronounced and stable presentation, while the other is designed for a more active action that imitates fleeing prey. This allows you to adjust the same lure to the situation on the water – fish it slower near the bottom for a more targeted approach, or work it more actively through the water column when fish are switched on and reacting to movement.
The 180 g weight makes this version a very useful working jig for shallow to medium depths, weaker to moderate current and slower boat drift. Compared with the heavier 300 g version, it feels less aggressive, allows a more active presentation and does not overload the movement as much. At the same time, it still has enough weight to keep contact with the lure during regular boat fishing in Norway, as long as the conditions are not too deep or too current-heavy.
The difference between 180 g and 300 g is therefore not just a number. The 18 cm / 180 g version is the better choice when you want to imitate a smaller mackerel, fish medium depths, deal with moderate drift and keep the lure moving more freely. The 23 cm / 300 g version makes more sense in deeper water, stronger current, faster drift and when you want to present a larger meal. Both sizes have their place – they simply solve different situations.
When fishing this lure, it is usually better not to overdo the aggression. For large cod and halibut, controlled bottom work, slow lifts, short movements, controlled drops, pauses and presentation just above the bottom can be very effective. For active coalfish or cod higher in the water column, you can speed things up, but the lure should still stay readable and under control. This is where the 180 g version becomes very practical – it is not unnecessarily heavy, but still has enough power for serious saltwater jigging.
With this size, it is worth thinking about a stinger. Westin lists the 180 g version with a main #7/0 single hook and an eye for an additional hook, but on this size the additional treble hook and cord may not be included in the package. For that reason, we recommend Savage Gear Big Fish Stinger 5/0 100kg as a related add-on. With a larger soft lure, a correctly placed stinger can help when a fish attacks from behind or does not fully take the lure on the main hook.
A stinger should still be used with care. If it is too tight or placed poorly, it can restrict the body action and make the lure look less natural. It makes the most sense when you expect bigger fish, short takes or situations where a large cod or halibut may not hit the lure perfectly at the head. In heavy saltwater fishing, the leader, split rings, swivels and the overall strength of the setup are just as important as the lure itself.
Besides the stinger, Crazy Daisy can also be tuned with an additional blade. If you want to add more flash, vibration or visual signal, the Westin ecosystem fits well with screw-in blades such as Westin ADD-IT Willow Screw Large – Silver, Westin ADD-IT Willow Screw Large – Gold or Westin ADD-IT Willow Screw Large – Chartreuse Yellow. With the Mackerel pattern, I would keep it practical: Silver for a natural baitfish flash, Gold for a warmer contrast and Chartreuse Yellow mainly for poorer visibility, more depth or situations where the fish need a stronger trigger.
Westin Crazy Daisy Jig 18 cm / 180 g – Mackerel fits naturally into the SAF ecosystem as a standalone product in the Halibut Jigs category and also within the Westin Salt range. Compared with Sandy Andy, it is not a slim sandeel imitation for lighter active spinning, but a stronger saltwater jig for bigger fish, a larger baitfish meal and fishing in depth. Compared with a pilk, it offers softer softbait movement, a larger baitfish profile and a more natural presentation.
This lure is a very good choice for anglers who do not want to choose only by the idea that “bigger lure means bigger fish”. If smaller mackerel are present in the fishing area, if you want to target large cod and still have a chance of halibut, the 18 cm / 180 g Mackerel makes excellent sense. It is a lure for a specific situation – smaller mackerel prey, controlled jigging, Norway drift and strong saltwater fish.
