Westin Crazy Daisy Jig 23 cm / 300 g in Mackerel colour is a large saltwater jig for Norway, halibut, big cod, coalfish and heavy boat fishing. Compared with the 180 g version, it offers a larger silhouette, more weight and better contact in deeper water, stronger current and faster drift. The mackerel pattern makes sense when you want to present a stronger baitfish profile and keep the lure under control near the bottom or just above it.

Product detailed description

Westin Crazy Daisy Jig 23 cm / 300 g – Mackerel is a large saltwater jig for Norway fishing, built around a strong baitfish profile, heavier rigging and better control in deeper water. It is not a standard soft lure and it is not a classic pilk. Crazy Daisy belongs among halibut jigs and large sea softbaits – larger soft lures for boat fishing, bottom work, fishing just above the bottom, drift and more targeted fishing for powerful saltwater fish.

The 23 cm / 300 g version has its own clear role. It is not simply a larger version of the 180 g model, but a stronger working lure for situations where you need a bigger meal, faster access to the working depth and better contact in current. It makes sense mainly in deeper water, faster boat drift, stronger current or when you want to present a more visible profile of larger prey.

The Mackerel colour is based on a natural mackerel pattern. Mackerel is an important prey fish in the North Atlantic and also a commonly used natural bait. With the 300 g version, this is no longer a subtle imitation of a smaller mackerel, but a larger and more powerful baitfish silhouette. The darker back, lighter sides and typical mackerel pattern help the lure remain readable when targeting halibut, large cod, coalfish and other strong saltwater fish.

The difference between 180 g and 300 g is significant. The 18 cm / 180 g version makes sense where smaller mackerel are present, when fishing shallower to medium depths and when you want a more active presentation. The 23 cm / 300 g version is better suited to heavier conditions – deeper water, stronger current, faster drift, a larger meal and a more deliberate presentation for halibut or large cod. Both sizes have their place, but each solves a different fishing situation.

Crazy Daisy is also interesting because the package contains 1 jig head and 2 different bodies. One body is better suited to a slower, more pronounced and stable presentation, while the other is designed for a more active action that imitates fleeing prey. This allows you to adjust the same lure depending on whether you want to tease fish more slowly near the bottom or search the water column more actively.

With the 300 g version, this option to change body action is especially practical. If fish are holding low and reacting carefully, a slower, stronger and more readable presentation makes sense. If coalfish or large cod are active higher in the water column, you can use the more active body and work the lure faster. This is one of the things that separates Crazy Daisy from simpler large softbaits with only one fixed action.

The 300 g weight helps keep the lure under control in deeper water, current and boat drift. With large soft lures, length alone is not enough. Body resistance, sink rate and the ability to stay in the working zone all matter. If a jig is too light, current or drift can lift it away from the bottom, and the angler may think the lure is fishing correctly while it is actually working in the wrong layer. This is where the 300 g Crazy Daisy has a clear advantage.

That does not mean heavier is always better. If you fish shallower water, calmer conditions or smaller prey, the 180 g model can look more natural. But when you need to get a large baitfish profile down, maintain contact and present the lure to halibut or large cod in more demanding conditions, the 23 cm / 300 g Mackerel is the more logical choice.

When fishing this lure, controlled work is usually better than unnecessary aggression. For halibut, slower bottom-focused fishing, short lifts, controlled drops, pauses and presentation just above the bottom often make sense. For large cod and active coalfish, you can work the lure faster, especially when fish are feeding in the water column or reacting to the movement of escaping prey. The important thing is not to overwork the lure without reason – a large bait must remain readable, stable and under control.

One of the major advantages of the 300 g version is the stronger hook setup. Westin lists this size with a main #7/0 single hook and an additional #2/0 treble hook. With a large soft lure, this matters because halibut, large cod or another strong fish may not always take the lure perfectly from the head. The additional hook helps when fish attack the rear part of the body or only take the lure shortly.

The stinger and additional hook setup must still work with the lure action. If the system is too tight or poorly positioned, it can restrict body movement. With this size, it makes sense to check the hooks, split rings, leader, swivels and the whole rig before the first drop. For halibut and large cod, the lure itself is only one part of the setup – the entire chain must handle heavy saltwater contact.

Crazy Daisy can also be tuned with jigging blades depending on the situation. With large soft lures, an added blade can increase flash, vibration and the overall visual signal of the lure, which can make sense in poorer visibility, deeper water, slower presentations or when fish need a stronger trigger. With the Mackerel colour, I would use this tuning sensibly – the natural mackerel profile works well on its own, but an additional blade can help when you want to make the lure more visible or add another movement signal.

Westin Crazy Daisy Jig 23 cm / 300 g – Mackerel fits naturally into the SAF ecosystem as a standalone product in the Halibut Jigs category and also within the Westin Salt range. Compared with Sandy Andy, it is not a slim sandeel imitation for active spinning and medium depths, but a stronger saltwater jig for bigger fish, larger baitfish meals and more demanding conditions. Compared with a pilk, it offers softer softbait movement, a larger baitfish profile and a more natural presentation.

This lure is a good choice for anglers who need a larger mackerel profile, more weight and better control in deeper water. If you fish in current, if the boat drifts faster, if you need to get the lure lower and present a stronger baitfish profile to halibut, large cod or powerful coalfish, the 23 cm / 300 g Mackerel makes very good sense. It is not a universal soft lure for everything, but a specific lure for specific saltwater conditions.
