Compress

NORTHMAN Compress brings together sports compression socks and knee-high models for running, cycling and other active use. The category includes lower and taller versions, Elite products and Compress Merino styles, so their fibre blends and thicknesses are not all the same.

A compression sock should fit snugly by design, but must not cause pain, numbness or severe tightness. Consider height, size range, left/right shaping and the intended sport. For a warmer ski-specific knee-high option, look at Ski Compress Merino.

Sports compression is different from the ordinary elastic cuff of a casual sock. The Compress High Elite description focuses on support around the ankle and calf and on anatomical shaping. Compress Mid has a shorter cut for activities where a knee-high sock is unnecessary.

Not every Compress model contains merino wool. High Elite, for example, mainly uses synthetic performance fibres; the separately named Compress Merino product has a different material profile. Check the product-level composition and intended use before buying.

Running and cycling – select Compress Mid or High by preferred height.

Full-calf coverage – choose a high model with the correct size range.

Cooler weather – consider the specific Compress Merino fibre blend.

Skiing – Ski Compress Merino is designed for ski boots and snow sports.

For activity-specific alternatives, compare Run Merino for a merino running design or Run Silver for silver-containing technical yarn. For skiing and rigid ski boots, use the dedicated Ski Compress Merino range.

Put compression socks on smoothly, without wrinkles or a folded-over cuff, which can create a localised pressure band. For suspected circulation problems, unexplained swelling or impaired sensation, seek medical advice before using medical compression; sports socks do not replace prescribed garments.

Wash elastic sports fabrics as directed by the manufacturer. Gentle care helps protect their stretch; avoid harsh bleaching and direct overheating.

Frequently asked questions – Compress

What does Compress mean for NORTHMAN socks?

The range uses a deliberately close-fitting sports design for active support. Do not assume a specific compression pressure unless the manufacturer states it.

Are all Compress socks made from merino?

No. High Elite, for example, has a predominantly synthetic construction; a separate Merino option also exists.

When should I choose Mid rather than High?

Mid is lower-cut, while High extends over more of the calf. Choose based on footwear, sport and preferred coverage.

Can compression socks feel too tight?

Yes, especially if the size is wrong or the cuff is folded. Stop wearing them if you experience pain, tingling or unusual colour changes.

Are NORTHMAN Compress socks medical compression products?

Sports compression socks do not replace individually prescribed medical compression. Ask a clinician if you have vascular conditions or unexplained swelling.

How do Compress and Ski Compress Merino differ?

Compress covers several sports designs, whereas Ski Compress Merino is a taller merino-containing range developed for skiing.

How do I care for compression knitwear?

Follow the care label and use gentle washing without aggressive additives. Excessive heat and abrasion can affect elasticity.
