Product detailed description
SAF Shockproof Torpedo UV Red 7/0 Jig Head is a more durable torpedo jig head for longer and narrower soft baits, saltwater spinning in Norway and situations where a standard finish takes heavy abuse. The torpedo head shape helps the lure sink faster, track more steadily and work cleaner in current, drift and deeper water.
It works especially well with longer narrow-profile soft baits such as ZOOM Baits, worms, eel profiles, sandeel-style lures, slimmer shads and other soft plastics with a similar body shape. With these lures, a torpedo jig head makes real sense because it helps keep a clean lure axis and a better functional ratio between head, hook and soft bait length.
The main difference is the shockproof surface finish. This version is based on Bright Baits Powdercoating Impact Proof, a durable powder coating designed for jig heads, pilkers and other hard-used lures. Compared to a standard painted finish, it gives the head a stronger protective surface for contact with rocks, bottom structure, metal parts, boat decks, fish teeth and repeated handling.
The UV Red version is based on Bright Baits Powdercoating Impact Proof – FLUO UV Japanese Red. In the product name we keep it simple as UV Red, because for the angler the practical role is what matters most: a strong fluorescent red UV point at the head of the lure, high visibility and a more aggressive visual signal when you want to make a longer soft bait stand out clearly.
With this colour, the white base layer is also important. It helps the final UV red colour stand out more clearly, keeps the tone cleaner and brighter, and creates a better intermediate layer between the lead body and the final impact-proof coating. The result is a stronger fluorescent effect, a cleaner colour and a more durable final surface finish on the whole jig head.
UV Red is a bold, aggressive colour. It is not a subtle option for a discreet presentation, but a strong visual trigger for situations where you want the lure to be more visible and easier for fish to read. It makes sense in lower light, deeper water, slightly coloured water, faster drift or whenever fish are not reacting to more natural combinations and you need to light up the front of the lure.
It works very well with black, dark, purple and more natural soft baits where the red head creates a clear attack point. It also fits high-contrast setups where you want to highlight the front of the lure and give the whole presentation a more aggressive look.
The large 7/0 hook makes sense mainly with longer soft baits, where the hook point needs to reach further into the lure body while still keeping reliable contact on the strike. On 15 cm and longer saltwater soft baits, a smaller hook can often feel undersized, while 7/0 better matches the length of the lure, improves fish contact and gives the whole setup a more reliable functional balance.
The lower reverse bait keeper helps the soft bait sit cleaner on the jig head and reduces unnecessary slipping during repeated casts, sinking phases or retrieves in current. With long and narrow soft baits this is important, because a thick classic collar can stretch or tear the nose of the lure when it is pushed all the way to the head.
The reinforced hook construction matters especially when the lure is hit by something stronger than a regular pollack or cod. This jig head is built for saltwater use and, with the right setup, the hook gives enough reserve even when you come into contact with a smaller halibut. It is not a dedicated heavy halibut rig, but it is a stronger torpedo jig head with real reserve for harder strikes and demanding Norwegian conditions.
SAF Shockproof Torpedo UV Red is recommended not only for soft baits, but also for tying saltwater streamers and heavier spinning flies. If you invest time into building your own streamer, it makes sense to use a jig head with the most durable surface finish possible, especially for hard use in saltwater conditions.
This jig head makes the most sense for fishing in Norway, deeper edges, fjords, current, faster sinking situations and anywhere you want to fish a longer narrow lure with stable tracking, clean rigging and high mechanical durability. If you want a more affordable working jig head for regular use, choose the SAF Bullet Torpedo range. If you want a more durable finish for tougher use, streamers or frequent contact with hard structure, choose SAF Shockproof Torpedo.
When building a setup for longer soft baits, combine this jig head mainly with ZOOM soft baits, longer soft plastics and selected slimmer models from the SAF PLASTI-X range. Other suitable jig heads by shape and weight can be found in the Torpedo sea jig heads category or in the wider saltwater jig heads selection.
Frequently asked questions – SAF Shockproof Torpedo UV Red 7/0
What is the difference between SAF Bullet Torpedo and SAF Shockproof Torpedo?
SAF Bullet Torpedo is a working torpedo jig head for longer soft baits and saltwater spinning. SAF Shockproof Torpedo uses a more durable Bright Baits Powdercoating Impact Proof finish, designed for hard-used jig heads, pilkers and lures used in more demanding saltwater conditions.
Why is the shockproof finish important?
In saltwater fishing, a jig head takes a lot of abuse. It hits rocks, boat decks, metal parts, fish teeth and other gear. The shockproof finish has much better mechanical resistance than a standard painted surface, so the head keeps its appearance and protective layer for longer.
Why choose the UV Red colour?
Choose UV Red when you want a strong fluorescent red point at the front of the lure. It is useful in lower light, deeper water, slightly coloured water, active retrieves or whenever you want to make a longer soft bait more aggressive and easier to see.
What soft baits is the 7/0 size suitable for?
The 7/0 size is suitable mainly for longer narrow soft baits such as ZOOM Baits, larger worms, slim shads, eel profiles and other soft plastics where the hook needs to reach further into the lure body while keeping reliable contact on the strike.
How does the lower bait keeper help?
The lower bait keeper helps hold the soft bait without unnecessary damage to the nose of the lure. With longer narrow-profile soft baits, it allows cleaner rigging right up against the jig head and reduces slipping or tearing during repeated use.
Is this jig head also suitable for streamers?
Yes. The durable shockproof finish is especially interesting for saltwater streamers and custom-tied lures. If you are tying material onto the head and investing time into your own lure, it makes sense to use a surface finish that can last as long as possible.
Is the hook strong enough for larger fish?
Yes. The reinforced 7/0 hook is built for saltwater spinning and gives the setup a solid reserve. With the right rod, line and drag setting, it can handle contact with a smaller halibut, although the main purpose of this jig head is fishing longer soft baits for pollack, cod and other saltwater predators.
