Product detailed description

Sportex Magnus Mastergrade Shore Jig & Cast RS-2 is a specialist for saltwater spinning from beaches, rocks, piers and harbour walls. A length of 275 or 300 cm helps lift line above surf and obstacles, extends the cast and improves distant lure control. It suits metal jigs, pilks, slim minnows and stickbaits for bonito, smaller tuna, jacks, bluefish, pollack and other coastal predators.

The lightweight Toray T1100 Helicore carbon blank transfers casting input through the working section and distributes pressure progressively during the fight. Stainless FUJI KW SIC guides are protected against saltwater corrosion and reduce line friction, the FUJI DPS seat secures a spinning reel and the split Duplon handle provides reliable grip during dynamic casting. A rubber cross-gimbal butt and SEAGUIDE D-Hook complete the specification.

The 275 cm / 80 g model weighs 323 g and is more comfortable for frequent casting. Its 29–97 g tolerance covers lighter metal jigs, slim minnows and versatile coastal lures. The 300 cm / 100 g model weighs 362 g, uses a longer lever and has a 45–120 g tolerance; choose it for greater distance, stronger current, higher surf or a heavier lure. If maximum reach is not essential, the shorter model causes less fatigue.

Its defining discipline is shore jigging: cast a compact metal jig a long way, work a selected depth and retain control right to the shoreline ledge. In tropical and warmer seas it can target bonito, smaller tuna, jacks, bluefish or barracuda; in northern waters, pollack, coalfish and cod. Match the complete setup not only to the fish but also to rock edges and safe landing options.

For maximum casting range and fast descent, explore pilks and compact speed jigs; for work nearer the surface, use saltwater stickbaits. A slim metal profile cuts through a headwind more efficiently, while a wider jig creates more action on the drop. Always use actual fitted weight including hooks and rings.

Shore Jig & Cast can be used from a boat when you need a long cast into open water, but 275–300 cm is less practical in a small craft. Mastergrade Jigging or Spiral Jigging is better for vertical work beside the gunwale; Mastergrade Travel is the versatile travel choice. Deliberate heavy GT popping calls for the shorter, power-focused GT Popper.

The stated tolerance is lure weight, not an automatic safe figure for every casting style. A bulky popper loads differently from a compact metal jig. Start with a smooth cast, match shock leader, braid and drag, and increase force only after reading the blank's behaviour.

Variant comparison — Sportex Magnus Mastergrade Shore Jig & Cast RS-2 2-Piece Rod

Version Model Length Weight / power class Pieces Transport length Rod weight Guides Reel / reel seat Recommended use
275 cm / 80 g / Standard – Spinning Reel MC2705 275 cm 80 g; tolerance 29–97 g 2 142 cm 323 g 9 Spinning reel / FUJI DPS More agile coastal all-rounder for frequent casting, lighter metal jigs and stickbaits.
300 cm / 100 g / Standard – Spinning Reel MC3006 300 cm 100 g; tolerance 45–120 g 2 155 cm 362 g 9 Spinning reel / FUJI DPS Maximum shore reach, higher line path, current and heavier metal jigs or stickbaits.

For all-day coastal spinning and most lures up to roughly 80–90 g, the 275 cm / 80 g model is more practical. Choose 300 cm / 100 g when you genuinely need longer casts, a higher line path over surf or regularly work in the upper part of the 45–120 g tolerance. Location and lure decide — longer and stronger is not automatically better.

The weight of a hand-finished rod may vary by up to 8% due to manufacturing tolerance. Always assess gram ratings and pound classes together with lure shape and resistance, depth, current, drift speed, line diameter and reel-drag setting.

A carbon blank conducts electricity. Never use the rod during a thunderstorm or near overhead power lines. Maintain a safe distance from electrical conductors during transport and assembly; contact between a carbon rod and a live source can cause a life-threatening injury.

After every saltwater session, remove the reel and rinse the rod with a gentle stream of fresh water. Wipe it down, separate the sections and let everything dry completely. Regularly inspect guide inserts and frames, section joints, the reel-seat thread, handle and butt. Do not allow salt to dry in the thread or around the guides, and do not use a pressure washer.

SPORTEX provides a 10-year extended manufacturer's warranty on the blank. Activation requires registration of the rod within 30 days of purchase and retention of the receipt. The extended warranty applies to the blank; other components and damage caused by overloading, impact or improper handling remain subject to the standard terms.

Frequently asked questions — Sportex Magnus Mastergrade Shore Jig & Cast RS-2 2-Piece Rod

Which length is the better all-round choice?

For frequent casting and most coastal situations, 275 cm / 80 g is more comfortable. Choose 300 cm / 100 g for maximum reach, surf, current and heavier lures.

Is the rod suitable for Norway?

Yes, especially for shore spinning, working ledges and targeting pollack, coalfish or cod. It is unnecessarily long for vertical jigging beside the gunwale.

What is the real lure range?

SPORTEX states 29–97 g for the 275 cm model and 45–120 g for the 300 cm model. Add every rig component and account for lure resistance and casting style.

Which fish suit Shore Jig & Cast?

Depending on the destination: bonito, smaller tuna, jacks, bluefish and barracuda, plus pollack, coalfish and cod in northern waters. Lure weight, current, surf and safe landing options determine the final setup.

Is this a GT popper rod?

That is not its primary role. Shore Jig & Cast is a longer coastal rod for varied jigs and lures. Choose Magnus GT Popper for repeated power work with large poppers.

Which reel should I use?

Use a saltwater spinning reel with a reliable drag and location-appropriate line capacity. The rod has a FUJI DPS seat; a multiplier reel does not belong on it.

How do I cast safely near the top of the tolerance?

Use a smooth casting stroke, correct shock leader and suitable braid. Do not begin at maximum force and never exceed the stated tolerance.
