Detailed information

Product detailed description

AQUANTIC Gummi Makk System 10/0 Red is a ready-tied sea rig fitted with three elongated single hooks and red rubber tubes – classic cod teasers for Norwegian sea fishing. The complete system requires no tying of your own rig; in most situations, simply attach a pilker or bottom weight below it and start fishing.

Size 10/0 is designed for a larger and more selective presentation. The rig is 130 cm long, made from 0.80 mm leader material and fitted with three size 10/0 hooks. Compared with the 8/0 version, it offers a larger hook gape and a more substantial target, making it suitable for targeting bigger cod, fishing deeper water, using a larger pilker or moving beyond smaller all-round hook sizes.

Red cod tubes are not a realistic copy of one particular fish. They work as a simple marine food signal: the soft elongated profile can suggest a sea worm, small eel-like prey, sandeel or another easy meal. As the rig moves, the tubes flex and trail above the pilker, creating three additional targets alongside the main metal lure.

The uniform red presentation follows a different logic from the mixed-colour version. All three tubes create the same repeated visual signal. In shallow and medium water, red appears bright and stimulating. As depth increases, the colour becomes less pronounced and the rig works increasingly through a darker silhouette, movement and contrast. The point is not that fish must always prefer red, but that the system presents a clear and consistent profile above the pilker.

This simplicity is one of the system’s main strengths. Cod, coalfish and ling do not inspect a lure in the same way that a person studies a product photograph. They react to size, movement, contrast, prey availability and an easy target. Three matching red cod tubes create a coherent presentation that can be worked as one clearly readable system through the water column.

Size 10/0 is mainly suited for larger cod, coalfish / saithe and ling. Depending on location and fish activity, it can also attract pollack and other sea predators. The larger hook makes the most sense when you want to be more selective than with 6/0 or 8/0 and when the pilker and the rest of the tackle are appropriately sized.

A pilker is normally attached below the rig. It provides weight, maintains contact with the setup and creates the main metallic flash. The red cod tubes above it work as softer secondary targets. A bottom weight can also be used, but combining a pilker with ready-tied Gummi Makk cod teasers remains a classic approach to Norwegian jigging.

The complete ready-tied construction saves time on the boat. There is no need to calculate spacing between the hooks, the total rig length or the basic terminal connections. The Red version is worth comparing with the 10/0 Mix: Red provides one repeated and consistent signal, while Mix presents several colours and contrasting visual triggers. Neither version is automatically better – they are two different presentations for changing conditions and fish responses.

AQUANTIC Gummi Makk System 10/0 Red is a substantial ready-tied cod rig for anglers who want three matching red tubes, larger hooks and quick deployment above a pilker. It has a clear position within the range: 4/0 and 6/0 are more versatile, 8/0 is the larger working compromise and 10/0 is aimed more directly at bigger fish and a stronger presentation.

FAQ – AQUANTIC Gummi Makk System 10/0 Red

What is size 10/0 best for?

Size 10/0 makes sense for targeting bigger cod, fishing deeper water and using a suitable medium to heavier pilker. It is more selective than the common 6/0 and 8/0 sizes.

What is the difference between 8/0 and 10/0?

Size 8/0 is a larger but still versatile working size. The 10/0 version provides a more substantial target and a larger hook gape, making it better suited to bigger fish and a stronger presentation.

Why are all three cod tubes red?

The uniform red setup creates three matching and repeated visual signals. Red appears more pronounced in shallower water, while at greater depth the darker silhouette, movement and contrast of the tubes become increasingly important.

What do red cod tubes imitate?

They do not copy one exact prey species. The soft elongated profile can suggest a sea worm, small eel-like prey, sandeel or another easy meal moving above the pilker.

What is the difference between the Red and Mix versions?

Red uses three matching red tubes to create one consistent presentation. Mix combines several colours, presenting the fish with different contrasts and visual triggers at the same time.

What pilker should be used with the rig?

The rig is used above a pilker or bottom weight. With size 10/0, medium to heavier pilkers usually make the most sense, depending on depth, drift, current and target species.

How many cod tubes are fitted to the rig?

The system is fitted with three red cod tubes on three side leaders. The total length is 130 cm and the leader material diameter is 0.80 mm.
