Product detailed description

SAF Bullet Torpedo BLACK 7/0 Jig Head is a specialised saltwater torpedo jig head for Norwegian sea spinning, longer narrow-profile soft baits and situations where you need stable lure control, faster sinking and better contact with the bait in current, drift or active casting.

It works especially well with long and slim soft baits such as ZOOM Baits, worms, eel profiles, sandeel-style lures, narrow shads and other soft plastics with a similar body shape. With this type of lure, the bullet / torpedo shape makes real sense because the head follows the narrow profile of the bait more naturally and does not create an oversized bulky front section.

The main technical advantage is the lower reverse bait keeper. SAF Bullet Torpedo does not use a classic thick moulded collar behind the head. Instead, it uses a slim lower bait keeper that helps hold the soft bait in place without unnecessary damage to the front part of the lure. This is a major advantage with long and narrow soft baits – when the lure is pushed all the way to the head, the material around the nose is not stretched or torn as easily and the bait sits cleaner in line with the jig head.

The 7/0 hook size gives a much more logical ratio on longer saltwater soft baits than smaller torpedo jig heads. On 15 cm and longer lures, a small hook can often feel undersized because it does not match the body length and the area where fish often hit the bait. The Bullet 7/0 better matches the size of the soft bait, improves contact on the strike and gives the whole setup a more reliable functional balance.

The reinforced hook construction matters especially when the lure is hit by something stronger than a regular pollack or cod. This jig head is built for saltwater use and, with the right setup, the hook gives enough reserve even when you come into contact with a smaller halibut. It is not a dedicated heavy halibut rig for extreme fishing, but it is a stronger torpedo jig head with real reserve for harder strikes and demanding Norwegian conditions.

The BLACK colour has a different logic than red. It is not mainly an aggressive colour trigger – it is about silhouette, contrast and a clean profile. A black jig head creates a strong outline, keeps the front of the lure visually compact and makes sense especially with black, dark purple and other darker soft baits where you want the whole setup to look natural, solid and readable.

BLACK is especially suitable for black and dark ZOOM soft baits, because the head and lure can form one continuous silhouette instead of looking like two separate parts. This is useful in clear water, strong sunlight, sharp light conditions or situations where fish respond better to a clean outline than to a bright colour point at the head.

The quality surface finish protects the lead body of the jig head and gives the lure a clean, professional look. With saltwater jig heads, a durable finish matters because the head comes into contact with saltwater, rocks, hard edges and rough handling on the boat. On the BLACK version, an even and clean final colour is especially important because the dark silhouette is the main visual advantage of this model.

Choose the weight according to depth, current strength, drift speed and soft bait size. The lighter version is suitable for shallower water, slower retrieves and situations where you want the lure to work more naturally. The heavier version makes more sense in stronger current, deeper water or whenever you need to keep better contact with the lure and control it more precisely in the working zone.

For a functional setup, combine this jig head mainly with ZOOM soft baits, longer soft plastics and selected slimmer models from the SAF PLASTI-X range. Other suitable jig heads by shape and weight can be found in the Torpedo sea jig heads category or in the wider saltwater jig heads selection.

Frequently asked questions – SAF Bullet Torpedo BLACK 7/0 Jig Head

Is SAF Bullet Torpedo BLACK 7/0 suitable for ZOOM Baits?

Yes. Long narrow-profile soft baits such as ZOOM Baits are one of the most logical matches for this jig head shape. The torpedo/bullet body follows the slim profile of the lure and the lower reverse bait keeper helps hold the soft bait without unnecessary tearing at the head.

Why is a larger 7/0 hook better for longer soft baits?

With longer saltwater soft baits, the hook needs to match the length and profile of the lure. A smaller hook can feel undersized on 15 cm and longer baits, while the 7/0 hook gives the setup a better ratio, more confident contact on the strike and more reserve when playing the fish.

Why is the lower bait keeper better than a classic moulded collar?

With narrow soft baits, a thick moulded collar can stretch or tear the nose of the lure when it is pushed up to the head. The lower bait keeper is slimmer, holds the lure from below and allows cleaner rigging right up against the jig head.

When should I choose the BLACK colour?

Choose BLACK when you want to build the setup around silhouette, contrast and a clean lure profile. It makes sense in clearer water, strong sunlight, sharp light conditions or whenever you want a visible but not overly bright presentation.

Is BLACK mainly suitable for black soft baits?

Yes. BLACK makes the most sense with black, dark purple and other dark ZOOM soft baits, where the jig head and lure create one compact silhouette. This helps the whole setup look more natural and better balanced, especially on long narrow-profile lures.

Is the hook strong enough for a larger fish?

Yes. The reinforced 7/0 hook is built for saltwater spinning and gives the setup a solid reserve. With the right rod, line and drag setting, it can handle contact with a smaller halibut, although the main purpose of this jig head is fishing longer soft baits for pollack, cod and other saltwater predators.

What is the role of the surface finish?

The quality surface finish protects the lead body, improves the appearance of the jig head and helps keep the finish cleaner during normal saltwater use. On the BLACK version, the even dark finish is also important because the clean silhouette is one of the main reasons to choose this colour.

Which weight should I choose?

Choose the lighter weight for shallower water, slower presentation and a more natural lure action. The heavier weight makes sense in deeper water, stronger current, faster drift or whenever you need better lure contact and more control.
