Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Your Mold F155 lead-casting mold is designed for making two elongated Eel Head jig heads weighing 150 and 180 g. Their streamlined shape is intended to form a smooth transition into slim soft lures that imitate eels or sandeels, creating a heavy sea-fishing jig head with a narrow profile.

The mold has two separately filled cavities. You can cast only the selected weight or make both jig heads in one working session. The stated weights of 150 and 180 g refer to castings made from lead. Using another low-melting metal or alloy will change the finished weight according to the material's density.

Compatible hooks are VMC 5150 jig hooks in sizes 8/0 and 12/0. The manufacturer does not assign one hook size to a specific cavity, so always test the seating of the selected hook before closing the mold. The VMC 5150 size 10/0 does not fit the F155 because its shank is longer.

A 19 mm wire keeper made from stainless spring steel can be positioned in the prepared groove before casting. Once embedded, this bait holder helps keep the soft lure against the rear of the jig head. Use one keeper for every cavity you fill. The shaped eye recesses on the finished head are designed for 8 mm adhesive eyes.

From the mold to a finished eel jig head

  1. Prepare a clean, completely dry mold, a suitable VMC 5150 hook in size 8/0 or 12/0 and one 19 mm wire keeper for each cavity you intend to fill.
  2. Position the hook and keeper accurately in their grooves. Check that neither component prevents the mold from closing fully and locking securely.
  3. Pour using the method and working temperature specified for the chosen metal and melting equipment. The approximately 500 °C figure is the mold's material limit, not a recommended pouring temperature.
  4. Once the casting has solidified and cooled to a safe handling temperature, remove it, trim the sprue and check that both the hook and keeper are firmly and correctly seated.
  5. Degrease the surface and finish it according to the instructions for the chosen powder or rubber coating. Apply the 8 mm eyes only to a clean, dry and cool surface.

Lead-casting equipment and process overview

The wire keeper, hooks and adhesive eyes are selected separately and are not automatically included with the mold. Before casting a full batch, make one test casting to verify the position of every insert and the transition between the chosen soft lure and the jig head.

Casting safety

  • Never pour molten metal into a damp mold.
  • Wear safety glasses and suitable protective gloves, and work on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Provide effective ventilation and follow the instructions for the casting metal and melting equipment.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke in the work area. Keep lead-working tools separate from household utensils and wash your hands after work.

Frequently asked questions about the F155 mold

Can I cast only the 150 g or only the 180 g version?

Yes. The cavities are filled separately, so you can cast only the selected weight. The unused cavity does not need to be filled.

Which hooks fit the F155 mold?

The manufacturer specifies VMC 5150 hooks in sizes 8/0 and 12/0. Size 10/0 does not fit this mold because its shank is longer. Before pouring, always check that the selected hook sits correctly in its groove and that the mold closes without resistance.

Is the wire keeper required?

It is not required to form the lead head itself. If you want the finished jig head to include an integrated keeper that helps hold the soft lure in place, position a compatible 19 mm wire keeper in the mold before casting.

Which adhesive eyes should I use?

The manufacturer specifies 8 mm adhesive eyes for the shaped recesses. Apply them only after the casting has cooled and the surface has been degreased and, where applicable, coated.

Can I use a metal other than lead?

The mold is specified for low-melting metals with working temperatures up to approximately 500 °C. Always set the actual working temperature according to the chosen material and equipment. A metal with a different density will also change the finished casting weight.
