Special Fishing Lead Molds
Special fishing lead molds are designed for making unusual carp weights, decorative sinkers and specialised lure heads. SAF offers molds with a carp motif, inline carp sinkers and Hauser feather lure heads. Each design has its own casting weights, attachment system and requirements for metal components, so choose according to the actual construction rather than appearance alone.

Special fishing lead molds include designs that differ from conventional sinkers in their shape, rigging or intended application. This category covers molds for decorative carp weights as well as specialised lure heads. They are not defined by one weight range or attachment system; each product has its own particular purpose.
A special mold is not necessarily more versatile than a conventional lead mold. In many cases, the opposite is true. The cavities and inserted components are designed for a particular construction, so shape, casting weight, attachment method and compatible accessories must be checked beforehand.
The SAF range includes three different designs: F61 for a carp-motif lead weight, F08 for a decorative inline carp weight and F230 for lightweight Hauser feather heads. Each mold creates a different casting, and the metal components must not be transferred automatically between them.
F61 – 60–90 g – decorative carp sinkers with a raised carp motif; choose weight and the appropriate attachment system.
F08 – 60–90 g – carp-motif inline sinkers; check the internal passage and compatible tubes or inserts.
F230 – 6–14 g – light Hauser feather lure heads; five weights and steel guides for forming the required passages.
F61 produces carp weights with a distinctive carp motif. This design may appeal to anglers who want their own recognisable sinker appearance. However, the decorative motif does not determine how the weight behaves in water or during casting.
With decorative molds, appearance must be distinguished from functional characteristics. Weight, centre of gravity, body shape and attachment method remain just as important as they are with conventional carp sinkers. A raised surface motif does not guarantee better stability, aerodynamics or durability.
F08 is designed for inline carp weights from 60 to 90 g. Unlike conventional terminal weights, it uses a running line arrangement. The required internal component and line passage must therefore be checked before casting.
With inline designs, the passage must remain clear and free from sharp edges. Any tube or insert must be suitable for the mold and rig. The decorative appearance does not change the requirement for the entire setup to function safely.
F230 represents a different production system. It produces smaller heads for Hauser feather lures in weights of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 g. It is not intended for the same purpose as the heavier carp sinkers F61 and F08.
The F230 design also requires steel guide inserts. According to its product specification, the mold includes five guides corresponding to the cavities. They must be positioned correctly before casting, and the mold must close completely. After cooling, check the finished passages and the heads before final assembly.
Light lure heads require a different approach to casting weight than heavy carp sinkers. Lure size, depth, current and presentation are the main considerations. One universal weight-selection rule must not be applied across all the products in this category.
Cavity count and individual weights are specific properties of each mold. F230 works with five lighter weights, while F61 and F08 cover a heavier carp-fishing range. Always verify the precise weights and do not choose a mold by its name alone.
Correct positioning of metal inserts, eyes or guides is essential during casting. If a component prevents complete mold closure, do not force the halves together. Verify its dimensions, orientation and compatibility first.
After cooling, remove excess lead and inspect the entire casting. On decorative carp sinkers, check the quality of the motif. On lighter lure heads, pay particular attention to the accuracy of functional passages and attachment points.
Depending on the product, castings may be finished using suitable powder paint or rubberised coatings. Follow the coating manufacturer's instructions. A layer that is too thick may reduce the clarity of a raised motif or block functional openings.
Before producing a larger batch, make one test casting and inspect its weight, dimensions and required components. This is particularly important when working with a specialised mold design for the first time.
When casting molten lead, wear safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, long clothing and closed footwear. Work with effective ventilation on a stable, heat-resistant surface. The mold and all inserted components must be clean and completely dry.
Keep water, drinks and damp tools away from the casting area. Do not eat, drink or smoke while working. Separate lead-casting equipment from household utensils and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
If you need a decorative carp sinker or a specialised lure head, choose according to the exact product specifications. For a wider selection of conventional carp weights, running sinkers and feeder molds, return to the main freshwater lead mold category.
Frequently asked questions – special fishing lead molds
What are special fishing lead molds?
They are molds with unusual shapes, decorative motifs or a specific production purpose. SAF examples include F61, F08 and F230.
Which casting weights does F61 produce?
F61 produces carp-motif weights in the 60–90 g range.
Which casting weights does F08 produce?
F08 is intended for inline carp weights from 60 to 90 g.
What is the difference between F61 and F08?
Both use a carp motif, but F08 is designed for an inline rig. Follow the specific attachment instructions for F61.
What is mold F230 Hauser used for?
F230 produces lightweight heads for Hauser feather lures in weights from 6 to 14 g.
Which individual weights can F230 cast?
The mold produces 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 g heads.
Are steel guide inserts included with F230?
Yes. According to its specification, the mold includes five steel guides.
Are all special molds designed for the same rig?
No. They have different construction methods, casting weights and metal component requirements.
Can the finished castings be coated?
Yes, using a suitable coating system for the material. The coating must not damage functional openings or obscure important construction features.
How can I cast special lead weights safely?
Use protective equipment, effective ventilation and completely dry molds and components. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
