Product detailed description
BKK Monster Circle 5/0 is the smallest size in the Monster Circle range, but it is still a strong heavy-duty circle hook built for saltwater bait fishing. It suits compact dead bait, smaller fillets, pieces of baitfish, chunk bait and natural bait presentations where you need a reliable hook, but do not want to overload the rig with a larger size.
In Norwegian fishing, size 5/0 makes sense mainly for cod, ling and smaller halibut rigs with compact bait. It is a good choice when you are fishing with a smaller fillet, a smaller piece of mackerel, herring or another baitfish and want the circle-hook principle without using a hook that is too dominant for the bait. If the bait becomes larger or the halibut rig more powerful, it is better to move up to 6/0, 8/0 or 10/0 from the BKK Monster Circle range.
In global saltwater fishing, BKK Monster Circle 5/0 fits compact bait rigs for species such as snapper, smaller grouper, kingfish, smaller tuna and other medium saltwater predators, depending on bait size, leader strength and the whole setup. It is not a hook for extreme big-game bait or trophy dead-bait rigs, but it is a very useful entry size where a strong circle hook is needed for a smaller bait presentation.
A circle hook works differently from a standard J hook. It is not designed for a hard strike, but for steady pressure on the rig. As the fish takes the bait and the line tightens, the hook rotates out of the mouth and tends to catch in the jaw corner. With size 5/0, the key is to keep the bait compact enough so the hook is not buried inside it, while still leaving the point and bend enough space to work correctly.
BKK Monster Circle uses Ultra-Antirust coating for saltwater use, a sharp needle point and heavy-duty wire construction designed for strong saltwater species. The straight eye and in-line point geometry support the typical corner-of-mouth principle of a circle hook, where the hook sets in the jaw corner under smooth and controlled pressure.
Choose size 5/0 when you are fishing with smaller or compact bait and want a strong circle hook that keeps the presentation clean and natural. For medium bait, stronger fillets or more serious halibut rigs, size 6/0 or 8/0 will usually be the better match. For large dead bait and trophy saltwater setups, move further up the Monster Circle range.
If you are not sure how circle hooks work, we recommend starting with the Circle Hooks category. To compare more BKK single hook models, use the BKK Single Hooks category. And if you are looking for a version made specifically for drift presentation and reduced rig twisting, also compare it with BKK Monster Circle Drifting Special.
Frequently asked questions – BKK Monster Circle 5/0
What is BKK Monster Circle 5/0 best used for?
Size 5/0 is best suited for compact dead bait, smaller fillets, baitfish chunks and lighter saltwater bait rigs. In Norway, it makes sense for cod, ling and smaller halibut setups. Globally, it can be used for medium saltwater predators depending on the bait and rig.
Is BKK Monster Circle 5/0 suitable for halibut fishing in Norway?
Yes, but mainly for smaller halibut rigs and compact bait. If you are using larger dead bait, a stronger fillet or a more powerful halibut setup, it will usually be better to move up to 6/0, 8/0 or 10/0.
What is the difference between 5/0 and 6/0?
Size 5/0 is the smallest size in the Monster Circle range and is better for compact bait and lighter saltwater bait rigs. Size 6/0 gives more working space around the bait and is more suitable for medium fillets, chunk bait and stronger cod, ling or smaller halibut rigs.
What bait size should I use with 5/0?
A 5/0 hook suits smaller dead bait, compact pieces of mackerel, herring, smaller fillets or baitfish chunks. The bait should not cover the point and bend in a way that prevents the circle hook from rotating correctly into the jaw corner during the bite.
Why should I not strike hard with a circle hook?
A circle hook is designed to work under steady pressure. As the fish loads the rig, the hook rotates out of the mouth and catches in the jaw corner. A hard classic strike can reduce this effect because the hook needs space and gradual tension to work properly.
