Detailed information

Product detailed description

BKK Monster Circle 12/0 is a large heavy-duty circle hook for serious saltwater fishing with big bait. It suits large dead bait, strong fillets, heavy chunk bait, larger live bait and rigs where the hook must match both the bait size and the power of the target fish. This is already a trophy-oriented size, but still more practical for many big-bait situations than the extreme 14/0 and 16/0 sizes.

In Norwegian fishing, size 12/0 is a very strong choice for large halibut dead bait rigs, bigger bait presentations and heavier setups for powerful fish. It makes sense when a standard smaller circle hook would be too hidden in the bait or would not give enough working space around a bulky presentation. For more universal halibut drift fishing with smaller bait, sizes from the BKK Monster Circle range such as 8/0 or 10/0 may often be more practical. Size 12/0 belongs where the bait is already clearly large.

In global saltwater and big-game fishing, BKK Monster Circle 12/0 fits powerful predators such as large tuna, sharks, marlin, big grouper, amberjack and other fish that are commonly targeted with strong bait rigs. It can be used for drifting, bait fishing, trolling or large bait presentations where the hook, leader, swivel and the whole setup must work together without a weak point.

A circle hook works differently from a standard J hook. It is not designed for a hard strike, but for steady pressure on the rig. As the line tightens, the hook rotates out of the mouth and tends to catch in the jaw corner. With size 12/0, the bait should be large enough to match the hook, but it must not cover the point and bend in a way that prevents the circle hook from working properly.

BKK Monster Circle uses Ultra-Antirust coating for saltwater use, a sharp needle point and heavy-duty wire construction designed for strong saltwater species. The straight eye and in-line point geometry support the typical corner-of-mouth principle of a circle hook, where the hook sets in the jaw corner under smooth, controlled pressure.

Choose size 12/0 when you need a large circle hook for a serious dead bait or big-bait rig, but do not want to move into the more specialised 14/0 or 16/0 trophy sizes. For large halibut bait, strong Norway rigs and global big-game use, it is one of the key big sizes in the Monster Circle range. For smaller bait, regular drift fishing or more compact rigs, 8/0 or 10/0 will usually be the better match.

If you are not sure how circle hooks work, we recommend starting with the Circle Hooks category. To compare more BKK single hook models, use the BKK Single Hooks category. And if you are looking for a version made specifically for drift presentation and reduced rig twisting, also compare it with BKK Monster Circle Drifting Special.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Monster Circle 12/0

What is BKK Monster Circle 12/0 best used for?

Size 12/0 is best used for large dead bait, strong fillets, heavy chunk bait and powerful saltwater rigs. In Norway, it is a strong choice for larger halibut bait presentations. Globally, it fits big tuna, sharks, marlin, grouper, amberjack and similar powerful fish.

Is BKK Monster Circle 12/0 suitable for halibut fishing in Norway?

Yes. Size 12/0 is a very good option for larger halibut dead bait rigs and heavier Norway setups. It makes sense when you are using a clearly larger bait and need a hook with enough size and strength. For smaller or more universal drift rigs, 8/0 or 10/0 may be more practical.

What is the difference between 12/0 and 14/0?

Size 12/0 is already a large trophy-oriented circle hook, but it is still more practical for many large halibut and big-bait rigs. Size 14/0 is a step further into specialised trophy and big-game use, especially for bulkier bait and more extreme setups.

What bait size should I use with 12/0?

A 12/0 hook suits large dead bait, stronger fillets, heavy chunks of baitfish or a larger live bait. The bait should be big enough to match the hook, but not rigged in a way that hides the point and prevents the circle hook from rotating and catching properly.

Why should I not strike hard with a circle hook?

A circle hook is designed to work under steady pressure. As the fish loads the rig, the hook rotates out of the mouth and catches in the jaw corner. A hard classic strike can interfere with this principle, especially when using larger hooks and heavier bait rigs.
