BKK Monster Circle are heavy-duty saltwater circle hooks for halibut, big cod, ling, tuna, sharks and other powerful fish caught on dead bait, fillets, chunk bait or live bait. BKK Monster Circle is a heavy-duty circle hook range designed for big saltwater fish and demanding rigs where a regular hook is not enough in terms of wire strength, corrosion resistance or overall construction. Typical use includes dead bait, fish fillets, larger chunks of baitfish, live bait and strong bait presentations for drift fishing, boat fishing and big game applications. In Norway, this range makes the most sense for halibut, big cod and ling. Globally, it is also relevant for tuna, kingfish, amberjack, grouper, sharks, marlin and other powerful saltwater predators.

A circle hook works differently from a standard J hook. With the right setup, you do not strike hard in the classic way. Instead, the rig comes under steady pressure, the hook rotates out of the mouth and tends to catch in the corner of the jaw. This is exactly why the hook size must match the bait. If the hook is too small, it can be hidden inside the bait and will not work properly. If it is too large, it can overload the bait, affect its presentation or make the whole rig look unnatural.

BKK Monster Circle is built for serious saltwater use. The range is made for heavy pressure, saltwater exposure and fish that can test the whole system – hook, leader, swivel, split ring and rod. Important details include the heavy-duty wire, sharp needle point and BKK’s Ultra-Antirust coating, which is especially useful in saltwater rigs exposed to salt, fish slime, blood and repeated use on the boat.

The biggest difference between the sizes is not only the target species, but mainly the bait. Sizes 5/0 and 6/0 are the smaller sizes within this heavy-duty series and are best suited for more compact dead bait, smaller fillets, smaller chunks of baitfish or medium bait presentations in the drift. In Norway, they make sense for cod, ling and smaller to medium halibut rigs. In warmer waters, they can be used for smaller tuna, snapper, grouper, kingfish and similar saltwater predators.

Sizes 8/0 and 10/0 are the main working range for stronger saltwater fishing. This is where Monster Circle starts to become a truly robust hook for larger fillets, chunk bait, dead bait or heavier bait presentations. In Norway, these sizes are very interesting for halibut dead bait rigs, larger cod and drifting with bigger bait. In tropical and big game fishing, they fit situations where tuna, amberjack, grouper, sharks or other strong fish are targeted with a more serious bait setup.

Size 12/0 already belongs among large hooks for bulky bait and fish that require a strong tackle system. In Norwegian fishing, it can be seen as a size for large dead bait on halibut and heavier rigs for big fish. On a global scale, it moves into the zone of bluefin tuna, marlin, sharks and other big game applications. This is no longer a universal hook for casual fishing, but a hook for big bait, strong leader and a setup built around real pressure.

Sizes 14/0 and 16/0 are specialised trophy and big game sizes. They are not made for small bait or general Norway fishing. They make sense when you are working with a very large dead bait, a massive chunk of fish or a large live bait, and when the target fish matches the strength of the whole setup. In Norway, this means specific trophy halibut use rather than everyday fishing. In global saltwater fishing, these sizes are more closely connected to large tuna, sharks, marlin and other extremely powerful fish.

If you want to understand the general circle hook principle, how these hooks work and why you do not strike them like a classic J hook, see the category Circle Hooks. If you are choosing between different BKK single hook models, the parent category BKK Single Hooks will help you compare the main hook families. And if you need a version designed specifically for drift, dead bait and reduced rig twisting, it makes sense to compare the standard model with BKK Monster Circle Drifting Special.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Monster Circle

What are BKK Monster Circle hooks best used for?

BKK Monster Circle hooks are designed mainly for big saltwater fish caught on dead bait, fish fillets, chunk bait or live bait. In Norway, they are especially useful for halibut, big cod and ling. In tropical and big game fishing, they are relevant for tuna, sharks, grouper, amberjack, kingfish and marlin.

How do I choose the right BKK Monster Circle size?

Choose the size mainly by the bait and rig, not only by the target fish. Sizes 5/0 and 6/0 suit more compact bait, 8/0 and 10/0 are strong working sizes for bigger bait and halibut fishing, 12/0 is already a large trophy size, while 14/0 and 16/0 are mainly for extreme dead bait and big game applications.

Is BKK Monster Circle suitable for halibut fishing in Norway?

Yes. BKK Monster Circle is a very interesting hook range for halibut dead bait and drift rigs. The most practical sizes will usually be in the medium to larger range, roughly from 8/0 through 10/0 to 12/0, depending on the bait. Sizes 14/0 and 16/0 are more specialised options for very large bait and trophy use.

Why should I not strike hard with a circle hook?

A circle hook is designed to work under steady pressure. As the line tightens, the hook rotates towards the outside of the mouth and tends to catch in the jaw corner. A hard classic strike can interfere with this principle, so it is better to let the fish load the rod and bring the rig under controlled tension.

What is the difference between BKK Monster Circle and Monster Circle Drifting Special?

The standard BKK Monster Circle is a heavy-duty standalone circle hook for big saltwater fish. Monster Circle Drifting Special is a more drift-focused version with pre-mounted components that help reduce twisting and improve the way the bait rig works in the water.

Is size 5/0 small for Monster Circle?

Within the Monster Circle range, 5/0 is the smallest available size, but it is still a strong saltwater circle hook. It is a good choice for compact bait, smaller fillets, smaller dead bait and situations where you do not want to overload the bait with a hook that is too large.

When should I choose size 10/0?

Size 10/0 is a strong choice for larger dead bait, bigger fillets and heavier bait presentations. In Norway, it is well suited to serious halibut drift rigs and larger saltwater fish. Globally, it fits stronger fish such as tuna, amberjack, sharks and grouper.

Is size 16/0 a universal hook size?

No. BKK Monster Circle 16/0 is an extreme size for very large bait, trophy dead bait and big game fishing. For regular Norway drift fishing or smaller bait, it will usually be too large. It makes sense only when both the bait and target fish match such a powerful hook.
