Costa Rica: 9-day fishing stay

Six fishing days around the islands and on the open Pacific. This intensive programme is for anglers who want to spend most of their stay by the sea. Inshore fishing around San Lucas, Negritos and Tortuga alternates with two long Big Game trips, using Playa Leona in Paquera as a base.

9 days / 8 nights

Arrival, a day to rest and attend a briefing, six fishing days and departure. International flights and connections are arranged separately.

6 main fishing trips

Four six-hour inshore trips and two ten-hour Big Game trips. Their order will be adapted to sea conditions.

Accommodation in Paquera

The proposal allows eight nights in a private air-conditioned bungalow with breakfast and return airport transfers.

This inspiration is based on an individual programme for January 2027. It is not a confirmed departure or an offer at a single public combined price. The actual provider must confirm specific dates, any alternative dates, availability and final services.

How your nine days could look

Departure times, boarding locations and the actual programme will be agreed around flights, the boat, weather and the captain’s decision. Trip durations do not guarantee the same amount of time actively fishing.

Day 1 — Arrival and transfer to Paquera

Airport pick-up, transfer to the resort and check-in. The original proposal allowed for a late-evening arrival; the airport, route and flight connection require confirmation.

Day 2 — Rest and fishing briefing

Recover from the journey, get to know the area and discuss fishing grounds, techniques and safety. Time to rest before a series of early starts.

Day 3 — San Lucas and Negritos

A six-hour inshore trip around the islands. Depending on conditions, spinning and other suitable techniques may be used. A four-hour independent shore-fishing session is proposed as an addition, with equipment and a map of recommended spots.

Day 4 — First Big Game trip

A ten-hour trip on the open Pacific. The crew chooses the route and target species according to the season and sea conditions. This programme uses a ten-hour option; its services and price should not be confused with an eight-hour trip.

Day 5 — Tortuga to Cabo Blanco

Six hours of fishing around the islands and coastal edges, followed by rest. An evening bioluminescence outing may be added when conditions allow; inclusion and any supplement require the provider’s confirmation.

Day 6 — Return to San Lucas and local techniques

Another six-hour inshore trip around San Lucas and Negritos. A three-hour afternoon session using local techniques near San Lucas is proposed as an addition; the exact format and accompanying staff require confirmation in the quotation.

Day 7 — Second Big Game trip

A second ten-hour offshore trip. These two longer outings give the programme its fishing focus; they do not guarantee a catch or an encounter with a particular fish.

Day 8 — Tortuga and an afternoon by the shore

The final six-hour Tortuga / Cabo Blanco trip. A second four-hour independent shore-fishing session is proposed as another addition.

Day 9 — Departure

Check-out and airport transfer timed to the confirmed return flight. Departure time and connections are agreed beforehand.

Main trips and additional sessions

The core consists of two six-hour San Lucas / Negritos trips, two ten-hour Big Game trips and two six-hour Tortuga / Cabo Blanco trips. Together, these represent a planned 44 hours of main trips; how durations are counted and the actual services require the provider’s confirmation.

Three additional fishing sessions are proposed: two four-hour independent shore-fishing sessions and one three-hour session using local techniques. Discuss these according to your interests and experience, and confirm inclusion, equipment and price in your individual quotation. Independent shore fishing is not automatically guided fishing. Suitable locations, sea conditions, safe access and your own abilities must be discussed beforehand.

Depending on season and conditions, possible targets include tuna, dorado, sailfish and marlin offshore, or roosterfish, snappers and jacks around the islands. The crew decides on techniques, fishing grounds and sailing; specific species, sizes or numbers of catches are not promised.

What the proposed services allow for

  • Eight nights in a private air-conditioned bungalow with hot water and breakfast; the quotation confirms the exact category and occupancy.
  • Six main fishing trips and specialist sea-fishing equipment. The source mainly mentions PENN; confirm the exact tackle, lures, availability and terms for damage or loss.
  • On trips lasting six hours or more, the proposal allows for water, soft drinks, snacks and a light cold meal, usually a sandwich.
  • Airport pick-up, return transfers to the resort and ongoing organisational help from the provider.

Bioluminescence is a separate possible addition, rather than an item confirmed here as included in the price. Its intensity depends on natural conditions.

Price and items to confirm

Prices are quoted individually for your dates, party size, bungalow occupancy, specific boat and confirmed activities. The original one-person calculation is not a public rate for other occupancies. Do not derive a per-person price by dividing a boat price without confirming the actual pricing unit and capacity.

Flights, lunches and dinners outside fishing trips, and personal expenses are excluded in the source proposal. In the final quotation, check currencies and pricing units, taxes and mandatory fees, fishing licences, insurance, any gratuities, fuel, transport to the boarding point and all supplements. Ask for explicit confirmation of the inclusion and price of additional fishing sessions and bioluminescence.

Before making a binding agreement, clarify payment terms, deposits, changes and cancellations, the arrangements for cancelled or shortened sailings, and the actual contracting party. Early starts and long periods at sea can be demanding; suitability for each participant and any health or mobility limitations should be discussed beforehand.

Your next steps

Tell SAF your approximate dates, numbers of adults and children, number of anglers, experience and whether you want all six main trips and the additions. SAF will clarify your plans and arrange a handover to the local partner. The actual provider confirms availability, the boat, final services, price and contractual terms.
