Dead On Plastix Marsh Grass from the Pearl Effects Colorant range is a concentrated liquid plastisol colour for making soft plastic lures. It creates a subtle grey-gold appearance with a pearlescent effect. Use it for custom natural-colour recipes or separate contrasting layers. Add the colour concentrate to your base plastisol; it is neither ready-to-use plastisol nor a surface paint for finished lures.

Its key feature is NO-BLEED, which reduces colour migration. When differently coloured layers are in contact, colour can gradually move between them and alter their shade. Marsh Grass is designed to greatly reduce this unwanted transfer. This is useful for laminated, two-colour and multicolour lures, especially when combining a dark back with a light belly and aiming to keep the layers visually separate over time. Always test the complete combination with your chosen plastisol, second colour and additives.

Marsh Grass for your own recipes. Marsh Grass belongs to the Pearl Effects Colorant range. Its pearlescent effect is part of the colour’s character and does not depend on adding ordinary glitter. Its appearance varies with lighting, casting thickness and dosage. Add separate glitter if you want more distinct individual particles. For additional speckling, choose SaBoFlex Plastisol Glitter – Black or other plastisol glitters. Use additives suitable for plastisol processing temperatures.

The final shade depends on colour dosage, plastisol type, lure thickness, other additives, lighting and the transparency of the layer. The same mix can therefore look different in a thin tail and a thick body. Neither a photograph nor the concentrate in the bottle is an exact colour chart for the finished lure. Judge the result on a cooled test sample of the appropriate thickness. Assess the Marsh Grass pearl effect from different viewing angles as well.

Dosage and shaking

The manufacturer shows reference samples made with approximately 25 drops per 1/2 US cup of plastisol. It gives a guide of 40–50 drops per US cup for some shades, but states that primary, secondary and tertiary colours require substantially less. This is therefore not a universal dose for every colour. Start with a small amount and adjust the intensity using a cooled casting.

We therefore do not give a fixed conversion to drops per 100 g of plastisol. Start with a smaller amount, mix thoroughly and increase the intensity gradually. The manufacturer recommends shaking the bottle vigorously for at least about one minute before use. Once you have adjusted the shade on a cooled sample, record the amount of plastisol, the colour dose and any other additives. Use the same dosing method when repeating the recipe.

For smaller batches, use borosilicate glass containers, such as a 250 ml measuring cup or a 500 ml measuring cup. Clean, dry stainless steel mixing balls can help homogenise colours; choose their size and number to suit the bottle.

All three bottle sizes contain the same colour at the same concentration. Choosing a different volume changes the amount available, not the strength of the colourant.

Lamination and twin injection

Use Marsh Grass for a naturally coloured pearl body or a separate layer. Compare a sample with green Melons or brown Cocoa. For twin injection, prepare the two coloured mixtures separately. The injector setup can use the Twin Adapter / T-ADAPTER and Double Clamp / T-KLAMMER; check compatibility with your particular injectors and mould. NO-BLEED helps reduce subsequent colour migration, while forming a sharp boundary also depends on the mould, temperatures and injection technique. Check a new colour pairing both after cooling and after storing the sample.

Storage and safe handling

Store the colour upright, tightly closed and at a stable room temperature, away from direct sunlight and temperature extremes. Shake thoroughly before every use. Follow the current product label and safety instructions for precise storage conditions.

When working with hot plastisol, wear safety glasses and heat-resistant gloves. Provide effective ventilation, ideally extraction at the source, and do not overheat the plastisol. Containers and tools must be clean and completely dry; keep water away from the hot mixture. Keep colourants and other workshop materials out of the reach of children and follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturers of your plastisol and additives.
