Stainless steel Your Mold casting ladle with a nominal capacity of 500 g of lead and a 60 mm bowl. Pouring lips on both sides let you choose the pouring direction. Select the size for the entire mould charge, including sprues, and for safe access to the melting pot rather than the weight of a single casting alone.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Your Mold 500 g ladle is a hand tool for taking molten lead from a pot and pouring it into fishing moulds. Its stainless steel construction features a 60 mm bowl and pouring lips on both sides, allowing you to choose the direction best suited to your workspace.

The 500 g rating is the nominal lead capacity, not the empty tool weight. Use a controllable charge and leave a safety margin. Do not fill the bowl so high that carrying or tipping it could spill molten metal.

SAF recommends this size for medium moulds, for example individual castings of about 80–120 g. This is a practical guide rather than a fixed casting-weight limit. For a multi-cavity mould, add together the intended castings and allow for feed channels and sprues. The charge must support the filling method required by the mould.

Compare the bowl diameter with the pot opening, its depth and handle clearance. The tool must not catch on the rim or require unsafe tilting. A ladle is a separate pouring tool rather than an insert or adapter that fits a particular mould.

Practical procedure

  1. Prepare a stable work area, a dry mould and a clean, dry ladle.
  2. Warm the tool using an appropriate method before taking metal; a cold ladle can rapidly cool the melt.
  3. Take a manageable charge and fill the mould smoothly in accordance with its instructions.
  4. Put remaining metal and the tool in a safe location; do not quench casting tools in water.

A top-access furnace such as the RCBS Easy-Melt 240 V can be used for ladle casting. Check the actual vessel clearance and tool dimensions first. Any reheating in the ladle requires a heat source suitable for the tool without damaging its grip or construction.

Supplied as one separate ladle, packed loose. Furnace, metal and mould are not included. The smaller Lee Lead Ladle is another option for skimming, stirring and smaller pours; its capacity does not make it an equivalent replacement for a large casting charge.

Use dry metal and dry tools. Water or moisture can cause molten metal to spatter violently. Wear eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, protective clothing and closed footwear. Provide effective extraction or ventilation and keep food, drinks, children and pregnant people away. Lead and contaminated dust are toxic. Wash your hands after work, clean surfaces and dispose of residues appropriately.
