Detailed information

Product detailed description

BKK Fangs-62 UA #12 is a small all-round spinning size for hardbaits and crankbaits measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm, small spoons, spinners and other compact lures. It is intended for situations where low rigging weight is essential but retaining the strength reserve of forged 2X wire still makes sense. Compared with #10 it is finer; compared with #14 it offers more working gape around a wider lure body.

Small-lure length cannot be converted directly into a hook-size number. A short, rounded crankbait may require more gape than a longer, slim minnow. When selecting #12, consider body width, hook-hanger spacing, buoyancy and the weight of the original rigging. The points should remain outside the sides of the lure, but the hook must not dominate the hydrodynamic resistance or repeatedly connect with the second treble.

The 2X designation describes the wire and strength class, not an exact load rating in kilograms. Fangs-62 is neither an extra-fine 1X treble nor a heavy-duty model for extreme fishing. With a small lure, confirm that the 2X construction preserves its action; at the same time, the additional mechanical reserve can be a practical advantage over a finer original hook.

The geometry is based on a traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank, regular eye and three needle-sharp points with standard barbs. According to the manufacturer, forging increases strength by approximately 20% compared with similar non-forged hooks. The reliability of the complete rig also depends on split-ring condition, point sharpness, drag setting and the angle at which the fish takes the lure.

The hook is manufactured from BKK-81WV high-carbon steel and finished with an Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating for increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. It can therefore be used in both freshwater and saltwater. After saltwater fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points, eye, split ring and any mechanical damage to the coating.

On hardbaits and crankbaits measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm, #12 provides fine rigging that still uses a 2X construction. It can work well on slim minnows, small sinking hardbaits and compact crankbaits. For every model, test startup, stability during a faster retrieve, behaviour during pauses and any change in buoyancy.

On small spoons and spinners, the low profile of #12 helps preserve delicate movement. An oversized treble can accelerate the fall of a spoon, restrict its flutter or interfere with the blade of a spinner. Size #12 makes sense when #14 does not provide enough working gape but #10 is already unnecessarily prominent for the lure.

Size #12 suits light spinning for trout, perch, chub and other smaller predators. This does not mean that the hook is intended only for small fish; its practical use must still match the rod, line, drag setting and lure construction. On fine tackle, a smooth drag is as important as the strength of the hook itself.

#14 is the very fine choice for micro hardbaits around 3–4 cm. #12 provides more versatile gape for lures measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm, small spoons and spinners. #10 is the larger working size for minnows and crankbaits around 4–5.5 cm.

Although the Fangs-62 UA range emphasises saltwater corrosion resistance, size #12 has a clear role in fine spinning at SAF. It can also rig a small saltwater hardbait, but on such a delicate lure it is particularly important to monitor balance, split-ring corrosion and the condition of all three points.

Fangs-62 UA #12 is not automatically a substitute for every treble hook carrying the same size number. Hook sizing is not dimensionally standardised between manufacturers, and ranges also differ in wire diameter, shank length, bend geometry and weight. If you need significantly lighter rigging, compare a 1X model. If heavy-duty resistance is the priority, consider an appropriate 3X or 4X range after physically checking its proportions.

The BKK Fangs-62 UA size table is an approximate guide to the complete range. It is not a universal conversion between lure length and hook size. Before final rigging, always check the physical proportions of the specific lure, the original hook, split-ring size, freedom of movement and the lure’s behaviour in the water.

Size Pack Position in the range Typical lures and applications When to consider this size
#16 8 pcs Finest spinning size Micro minnows and crankbaits measuring approximately 2–3.5 cm, the smallest spoons and spinners When minimum hook size and minimal influence on the action of a micro lure are the priorities
#14 8 pcs Very fine spinning size Small minnows and crankbaits measuring approximately 3–4 cm, micro spoons and small spinners When #16 lacks sufficient gape but the lure still requires very lightweight rigging
#12 8 pcs Small all-round spinning size Hardbaits and crankbaits measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm, small spoons, spinners and compact lures For small lures that can carry a 2X construction without losing action
#10 8 pcs Light working spinning size Smaller minnows and crankbaits measuring approximately 4–5.5 cm, spoons, spinners and small casting jigs When you need more gape than #12 while still keeping the rigging weight low
#8 8 pcs Small-to-medium spinning size Hardbaits, crankbaits and smaller jerkbaits measuring approximately 4.5–6.5 cm, spoons and small casting jigs For common smaller spinning lures where #10 or #12 do not provide enough gape
#6 8 pcs Crossover between light saltwater fishing and spinning Pilkers and speed jigs up to 6 cm / around 20 g, similarly sized spoons, smaller hardbaits, crankbaits, casting jigs and streamers measuring approximately 8–10 cm When #8 is too fine but #5 would add unnecessary weight or alter the lure’s action
#5 8 pcs Fine-tuning intermediate size Pilkers and speed jigs measuring approximately 6–6.5 cm / 20–30 g, spoons of the same length, smaller hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers around 10 cm When #6 lacks sufficient gape but #4 would add unnecessary weight or alter the lure’s action
#4 8 pcs Transition into finer rigging Pilkers, speed jigs and spoons measuring around 7 cm / approximately 30–40 g, smaller hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers up to 12 cm When you need more working gape than #5 while retaining a low-profile hook
#3 7 pcs Larger intermediate size Pilkers, speed jigs and spoons measuring 8–9.5 cm / approximately 60–80 g, hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers up to 15 cm When #4 lacks sufficient gape but #2 already appears too robust
#2 7 pcs Larger working size Pilkers, compact metal jigs and spoons around 10 cm, hardbaits, casting jigs and streamers measuring approximately 15–18 cm When #3 lacks sufficient gape but #1 could add unnecessary weight to the lure
#1 6 pcs Largest numbered size Pilkers around 12 cm / 80–120 g, large hardbaits and topwater lures, and slimmer pike streamers measuring approximately 20–24 cm When #2 lacks sufficient gape but 1/0 could add unnecessary weight
#1/0 6 pcs Large all-round size Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 150–200 g, large jerkbaits, stickbaits, topwater lures and pike or saltwater streamers around 25 cm When #1 lacks sufficient gape but the lure does not yet require size 2/0
#2/0 6 pcs Large working size Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky hardbaits, large topwater lures, streamers and stinger rigs When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider or bulkier body
#3/0 5 pcs Largest size in the range Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, the largest hardbaits and topwater lures, bulky streamers and stinger assemblies For maximum gape within the 2X range; not as a substitute for heavy-duty 3X or 4X hooks

This version contains 8 treble hooks in size #12. According to the reference chart, one hook weighs approximately 0.267 g. Before first use, check the sharpness of all three points and repeat the inspection after every contact with rock or another hard obstruction. Replace a blunt or mechanically damaged point; an intact-looking coating alone does not prove that the hook remains sharp.

BKK Fangs-62 UA #12 is suitable for anglers looking for a small 2X treble hook for 3.5–5 cm hardbaits and crankbaits. It forms a precise middle step between the finer #14 and the larger #10 when the lure needs to retain delicate action while gaining more working gape.

Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-62 UA #12

Which lures suit size #12?

Small hardbaits and crankbaits measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm, small spoons, spinners and compact spinning lures that need light rigging with a 2X construction.

Is size #12 suitable for a 4 cm hardbait?

Often yes, but body width, buoyancy, number of hook hangers and the original hook all matter. A slim model may work better with #14, while a wider crankbait may require #10.

What is the difference between sizes #14, #12 and #10?

#14 is finer for micro lures around 3–4 cm. #12 is the all-round step for approximately 3.5–5 cm. #10 adds gape for slightly larger or wider hardbaits around 4–5.5 cm.

How much does one size #12 hook weigh?

The reference chart lists approximately 0.267 g. Even this small difference can change the buoyancy or action of a micro lure, so always test the new rigging in the water.

Is size #12 suitable for a small spoon?

Yes, provided it preserves the spoon’s rocking action and fall and the points remain outside the sides of the body. A hook that is too large or heavy can restrict the lure’s movement.

Can size #12 be used in saltwater?

Yes. Ultra-Antirust is designed to increase corrosion resistance. After use, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect it carefully.

Is size #12 a heavy-duty substitute for a 3X or 4X treble hook?

Not automatically. Fangs-62 uses a 2X construction and prioritises the strength-to-weight ratio. For significantly heavier-duty use, choose the appropriate wire class and verify its physical dimensions.
