Product detailed description
BKK Fangs-62 UA #14 is a very fine spinning size for small minnows and crankbaits measuring approximately 3–4 cm, micro spoons and small spinners. Within the range, it fills the precise space between the more versatile #12 and the smallest #16. It is intended for situations where the treble hook should remain visually and physically unobtrusive but #16 no longer provides enough working gape around the lure body.
On a micro lure, every part of the rigging has a pronounced effect. Select #14 according to body width, distance between the hanger and the lure side, split-ring size and buoyancy. The points must remain exposed, but the hook must not pull the centre of gravity towards the tail or restrict fine vibration. The size number alone is not enough because #14 dimensions differ between manufacturers and hook ranges.
The 2X designation describes the wire and strength class, not an exact load rating in kilograms. Fangs-62 is neither an extra-fine 1X treble nor a heavy-duty model for extreme fishing. With a small lure, confirm that the 2X construction preserves its action; at the same time, the additional mechanical reserve can be a practical advantage over a finer original hook.
The geometry is based on a traditional O’Shaughnessy bend. BKK combines it with a forged shank, regular eye and three needle-sharp points with standard barbs. According to the manufacturer, forging increases strength by approximately 20% compared with similar non-forged hooks. The reliability of the complete rig also depends on split-ring condition, point sharpness, drag setting and the angle at which the fish takes the lure.
The hook is manufactured from BKK-81WV high-carbon steel and finished with an Ultra-Antirust (UA) coating for increased corrosion resistance in saltwater. It can therefore be used in both freshwater and saltwater. After saltwater fishing, rinse the hook with fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the points, eye, split ring and any mechanical damage to the coating.
On micro hardbaits and small crankbaits measuring approximately 3–4 cm, #14 is useful when #12 looks too prominent or alters buoyancy but #16 places the points too close to the sides of the body. On a floating lure, monitor its return to the surface; on a fast-vibrating crankbait, check stability; and on a sinking minnow, compare the speed and angle of the fall.
On micro spoons and small spinners, the treble hook should not overshadow the lure with its own profile or restrict movement. #14 offers more working gape than #16 while remaining finer than #12. On a spinner, confirm a clean blade startup; on a micro spoon, check the flutter during pauses and a slow fall.
Size #14 is useful for fine spinning for trout, perch and chub, as well as other fish targeted with micro lures. A treble hook this small requires sensitive fish playing. A smooth drag, a responsive rod and an appropriate leader help reduce hook pull-out and local overload on the finest parts of the setup.
#16 is the smallest size for micro lures around 2–3.5 cm and minimal influence on their action. #14 adds more working gape for minnows and crankbaits around 3–4 cm. #12 is the more versatile size for lures measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm and for wider bodies.
SAF positions size #14 as a replacement treble hook for micro spinning. Ultra-Antirust also permits saltwater use, but its main purpose is delicate rigging of small hardbaits and metal lures. Even a corrosion-resistant coating does not replace rinsing, complete drying and inspection of the very small points.
Fangs-62 UA #14 is not automatically a substitute for every treble hook carrying the same size number. Hook sizing is not dimensionally standardised between manufacturers, and ranges also differ in wire diameter, shank length, bend geometry and weight. If you need significantly lighter rigging, compare a 1X model. If heavy-duty resistance is the priority, consider an appropriate 3X or 4X range after physically checking its proportions.
The BKK Fangs-62 UA size table is an approximate guide to the complete range. It is not a universal conversion between lure length and hook size. Before final rigging, always check the physical proportions of the specific lure, the original hook, split-ring size, freedom of movement and the lure’s behaviour in the water.

| #1/0 | 6 pcs | Large all-round size | Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 150–200 g, large jerkbaits, stickbaits, topwater lures and pike or saltwater streamers around 25 cm | When #1 lacks sufficient gape but the lure does not yet require size 2/0 |
| #2/0 | 6 pcs | Large working size | Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 200–250 g, bulky hardbaits, large topwater lures, streamers and stinger rigs | When 1/0 does not provide enough clearance around a wider or bulkier body |
| #3/0 | 5 pcs | Largest size in the range | Pilkers and speed jigs of approximately 300–400 g, the largest hardbaits and topwater lures, bulky streamers and stinger assemblies | For maximum gape within the 2X range; not as a substitute for heavy-duty 3X or 4X hooks |
This version contains 8 treble hooks in size #14. The available reference weight chart begins at size #12 and does not list size #14, so SAF does not calculate or estimate its weight. Before first use, check the sharpness of all three points and repeat the inspection after every contact with rock or another hard obstruction.
BKK Fangs-62 UA #14 is suitable for anglers looking for a very fine 2X treble hook for micro hardbaits and small spinning lures. It makes sense on lures measuring approximately 3–4 cm where #12 already interferes with the action but #16 does not provide enough working gape.
Frequently asked questions – BKK Fangs-62 UA #14
Which lures suit size #14?
Small minnows and crankbaits measuring approximately 3–4 cm, micro spoons and small spinners where a fine profile and low rigging weight are important.
When should I choose #14 instead of #12?
Choose #14 when #12 changes buoyancy, centre of gravity or the delicate action of a micro lure too much. #14 is finer while still offering more working gape than #16.
What is the difference between sizes #16, #14 and #12?
#16 is the finest step for lures around 2–3.5 cm. #14 mainly covers 3–4 cm. #12 adds gape for lures measuring approximately 3.5–5 cm.
How much does one size #14 hook weigh?
The available BKK/SAF reference chart does not state the weight of #14, so SAF does not calculate or estimate it. Compare the new hook with the original and test the micro lure in the water.
Is size #14 suitable for a micro spoon?
Yes, provided it preserves the lure’s flutter and fall while keeping enough gape beyond the sides of the body. When unsure, compare #14 directly with #16.
Can size #14 be used in saltwater?
Yes. Ultra-Antirust increases corrosion resistance, but the hook must still be rinsed with fresh water, dried completely and inspected after use.
Is a 2X construction suitable for ultralight spinning?
Yes, if the specific lure can carry its weight without losing action. On an exceptionally sensitive micro hardbait, a lighter 1X treble may work better; a direct test is decisive.
