Eagle Claw 570B is a classic American-made 90° jig hook with Aberdeen geometry, a round bend and Black Nickel finish. The construction uses relatively fine wire to keep the hook diameter low, while the forged shank adds strength. The series is designed primarily for casting freshwater jig heads and fishing with soft plastic lures.
Do not choose hook size according to jig-head weight. The hook must primarily match the length and profile of the soft plastic lure, the required hook-point exit position and the amount of free space left inside the hook bend after rigging. Jig-head weight should be selected separately according to depth, current, rate of fall and the required presentation.
A characteristic feature of Eagle Claw 570B is its classic Aberdeen geometry with a round bend and 90° front bend. This construction is suitable for a wide range of standard jig heads – from small perch setups to larger freshwater jigs. The hook is non-offset, barbed and uses a conventional open bend.
#10–#6 – very small soft plastic lures, compact jig heads and finesse spinning where short and light hook placement is required.
#4–#1 – smaller to medium-sized minnows, shads and other soft plastic lures for perch and lighter zander fishing.
1/0–2/0 – a versatile range for standard soft plastic lures and classic zander jigging setups.
3/0–4/0 – larger shads and minnows, longer hook placement and setups for larger zander or pike.
When selecting the size, place the hook directly alongside the soft plastic lure and determine where the hook point should exit the body. The lure should remain straight after rigging. A hook that is too short positions the point unnecessarily far forward, while an excessively long shank may extend into the active rear section of the lure and restrict its movement.
With deeper-bodied shads, also check the free space inside the hook bend. Enough clearance must remain between the lure body and the hook point for a reliable hook-up. With slimmer minnows, avoid using an unnecessarily long hook that could restrict their natural action. Two lures of the same overall length may therefore require different 570B sizes.
The SAF size range covers #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1 and then 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0. Pay particular attention to the transition between #1 and 1/0 – these are not two labels for the same hook size. After changing size, always check the lure fit and the hook position inside the mold again.
Eagle Claw 570B is suitable for anglers who cast their own jig heads. The 90° Aberdeen construction is one of the common standards used in freshwater jig molds. Before pouring lead, however, always place the exact hook size into the selected mold cavity and make sure the hook sits correctly and the mold closes completely.
The same 90° eye angle does not mean that all jig hooks are interchangeable. Different series may vary in shank length, wire diameter, bend position, hook gap and eye dimensions. The numerical hook size therefore does not guarantee that another hook model of the same size will fit the same mold cavity.
A closely related type of application is the VMC 9147 BN, which also uses Aberdeen geometry and a 90° front bend. The two models are not automatically dimensionally identical, however. When changing brand or hook model, always verify the actual fit inside the mold before casting a full batch.
One of the advantages of the 570 series is its broad use in DIY jig-head production. The 90° eye works with classic round jig heads as well as a range of other freshwater designs intended for swimming, bottom contact or dragging. Exact compatibility is always determined by the mold, not by eye angle alone.
This version uses a Black Nickel finish. Do not confuse it with the bronze finish used on the standard Eagle Claw 570 variant. The finish does not change the basic selection rule: hook geometry, size and mold compatibility are the key factors.
Eagle Claw 570B is intended primarily for freshwater spinning. The 570 series is commonly used for species such as perch, trout and zander. For heavy saltwater setups and very large jig heads, choose a stronger hook designed specifically for higher loads.
SAF offers Eagle Claw 570B in pack sizes suitable both for smaller casting batches and repeated jig-head production. Before producing a larger batch, it is good practice to test several finished jig heads first – checking hook position, complete mold closure and the fit of the intended soft plastic lure.
Other hook geometries, sizes and strength options can be found in our main jig hooks category. Always choose the mold according to explicitly stated compatibility with the exact hook model and size.
Frequently asked questions – Eagle Claw 570B
What is Eagle Claw 570B?
It is a classic 90° Aberdeen jig hook with a round bend and Black Nickel finish, designed primarily for casting freshwater jig heads.
Which Eagle Claw 570B sizes does SAF offer?
The SAF range includes sizes #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0.
What finish does Eagle Claw 570B use?
The 570B version uses a Black Nickel finish. It is not the same finish as the bronze version of the standard Eagle Claw 570.
Is Eagle Claw 570B a heavy-duty jig hook?
No. It is a classic Aberdeen construction made from relatively fine to standard wire, rather than a heavy saltwater or extra heavy-duty hook. It is intended mainly for standard freshwater jigging setups.
How do I choose the correct Eagle Claw 570B size for a soft plastic lure?
Place the hook alongside the lure and check the shank length, hook-point exit position, body depth and free space inside the bend. The active rear section of the lure must remain sufficiently free to move.
Does jig-head weight determine the hook size?
No. Hook size should primarily match the lure. Jig-head weight should be selected according to depth, current, rate of fall and presentation style.
Is Eagle Claw 570B suitable for casting your own jig heads?
Yes. The 570 series is a classic design used in DIY jig-head production. Before casting, however, always verify the exact hook size directly in the exact mold cavity.
Is Eagle Claw 570B compatible with every mold designed for 90° hooks?
No. Eye angle is only one dimensional parameter. Shank length, bend position and size, wire diameter and eye geometry also matter.
Can Eagle Claw 570B be replaced with VMC 9147 BN in the same size?
Not automatically. Both models use Aberdeen geometry and a 90° front bend, but their exact dimensions may differ. When changing hook model, always verify the fit inside the mold again.
Is Eagle Claw 570B suitable for saltwater fishing?
The series is intended primarily for freshwater use. For heavy saltwater jig heads and high-load applications, choose a hook designed specifically for that purpose.
