Product detailed description
Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL is a larger steel fluid bed for coating preheated lead castings with powder paints. Thanks to its larger diameter, higher working height and stable construction, it is especially useful for coating pilkers, cheburashka weights, larger jig heads, sea fishing weights and other more shaped lead castings. With a sufficiently strong compressor, it can also be used for rubber coatings for lead.
Compared with smaller plastic cup-style fluid beds, the Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL feels much more stable. The body is made of steel with a surface finish, has more weight and sits firmly on the workbench during use. This is important when handling hot lead, larger castings or a stronger airflow. The cylinder does not behave like a lightweight plastic cup that tends to move around the table or tip over easily.
Inside the fluid bed, the paint is lifted by air and starts to behave like a fine fluid layer. The heated lead casting is dipped briefly into this fluidised paint, allowing the coating to bond more evenly to the surface than with ordinary cup dipping. The result is cleaner, more consistent and easier to repeat, especially on castings with edges, rounded transitions, eyes, ribs or more complex shapes.
The XL version is suitable for larger and more demanding castings. Compared with smaller fluid beds, it offers more space, a larger paint volume and better comfort when dipping longer or wider pieces. This is useful especially for sea fishing pilkers, larger cheburashka weights, end weights, heavier jig heads and castings that are harder to coat accurately in a small fluid bed.
The fluid bed has a diameter of 90 mm and a height of 240 mm. The usable working height for coating is approximately 200 mm, so longer lead castings can be guided into the cylinder more comfortably. Depending on the type of coating material, casting size and working method, the cylinder is suitable for approximately 200–400 g of paint.
An XL extension adapter can also be added to this fluid bed, increasing the working height even further. This is especially important when coating longer sea fishing pilkers, elongated weights and larger castings where you need more space above the paint layer. With the extension adapter, the Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL becomes a more serious workshop setup for regular work with sea fishing pilkers and longer lead lures.
Two air inlets help distribute air more evenly into the lower part of the fluid bed. For proper function, it is ideal to use an air pump or compressor with two outlets. If you use an air source with only one outlet, the connection can be handled with a suitable Y-splitter so the airflow is divided into both inlets.
For fine powder paints, we recommend a stronger air pump such as Tetra APS 400. Smaller air pumps that may be sufficient for small plastic cups usually do not have enough power or reserve for this larger cylinder. Correctly adjusted airflow should lift the paint evenly, not blow it out of the fluid bed.
For rubber coatings for lead, we recommend using the Hailea compressor, because rubber coating is heavier than fine powder paint, creates more resistance and requires a stable airflow with enough performance reserve. This is where the larger and more stable XL fluid bed makes the most sense – especially when coating pilkers, cheburashka weights, sea fishing weights and castings that need a more durable surface layer. You can find the suitable compressor here: Hailea ACO-208 Compressor for Rubber Coating.
With powder paints, the work is fast, clean and efficient. The fluid bed helps apply paint evenly even to more detailed castings and allows more economical work when coating larger quantities. With rubber coatings, the application is more demanding in terms of airflow and setup, but the result can be a highly durable surface layer suitable for harder fishing use.
When does the Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL make the most sense?
– when coating larger pilkers and sea fishing lures,
– when coating cheburashka weights and larger jig heads,
– for end weights and heavier lead castings,
– when working with powder paints and rubber coatings for lead,
– when you need more working space than a small cup-style fluid bed can offer,
– when coating longer pilkers with the XL extension adapter,
– when you want a stable steel fluid bed that sits firmly on the workbench,
– for more regular coating work and larger batches.
The Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL is supplied with a base frame, hoses and regulating valves. The regulating valves allow you to fine-tune the airflow so the paint is lifted evenly inside the cylinder without being blown out. Correct airflow adjustment is essential – too little air will not lift the paint properly, while too much air can throw the paint around and reduce control during coating.
Recommended basic workflow
1. Pour a suitable amount of lead coating paint into the fluid bed.
2. Connect a sufficiently strong air pump or compressor.
3. Connect both air inlets directly to a two-outlet air source or through a suitable Y-splitter.
4. Use the regulating valves to adjust the airflow so the paint is lifted evenly.
5. Preheat the lead casting to the correct working temperature.
6. Dip the casting briefly and carefully into the fluidised paint.
7. Let the coating melt onto the surface and, depending on the paint type, carry out final curing if required.
For a good result, work with a clean casting, correct lead temperature and stable airflow. If the casting is too cold, the paint will not bond properly. If it is too hot, the layer can become too thick or uneven. A short and controlled dip into properly fluidised paint usually works better than a long dip.
Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL is recommended for anglers and makers who want to coat larger lead castings, work with more durable rubber coatings or regularly coat larger quantities of pilkers, weights and jig heads. Thanks to its steel body, stable position on the workbench, larger working space, two air inlets and the option to add the XL extension adapter, it is a more reliable solution than small cup-style fluid beds.
