Medium fluid bed for lead coating paints, designed for even coating of jig heads, cheburashka weights, pilkers and fishing weights. The metal body sits more firmly on the workbench than small plastic cup-style fluid beds, while the larger working space helps reduce the risk of touching the bottom filter with hot lead. APS 100 can be used only for very fine powder paints; for stronger airflow use APS 400 with a suitable splitter, and for rubber coatings we recommend the Hailea compressor.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Powder Paint Fluid Bed Medium is a medium-sized fluid bed for lead coating paints, designed mainly for applying fine powder paints evenly to preheated lead castings. It is suitable for jig heads, cheburashka weights, small to medium pilkers, carp leads and other fishing weights where you want a cleaner and more repeatable finish than with ordinary cup dipping.

Inside the fluid bed, the paint is lifted by air and starts to behave like a fine fluid layer. The heated lead casting is dipped briefly into this fluidised paint, allowing the coating to bond more evenly to the surface than with standard dipping in a cup. The result is a smoother layer, better coverage on edges and a cleaner finish on the coated lead.

Medium is a practical middle option between a small cup-style fluid bed and a large XL fluid bed. Compared with small plastic cups, it offers more working space, a more stable body and better control when dipping the casting. At the same time, it does not require as much paint as the XL version, so it makes sense for anglers who no longer coat only a few tiny jig heads, but still do not need a large workshop setup for long sea fishing pilkers.

The metal body sits firmly on the workbench and feels more secure during use than lightweight plastic cups. This is important when handling preheated lead, increasing airflow or coating slightly larger fishing weights. The cylinder has a diameter of 75 mm and a usable working height of approximately 95 mm, giving you more room for controlled dipping into the paint.

The increased working depth helps protect the bottom filter. With small plastic cup-style fluid beds, there is a risk that a longer or very hot casting can reach the bottom filter during careless dipping. If hot lead touches the filter layer, it can damage it and reduce the airflow quality inside the cup. The Medium fluid bed gives you more reserve, making work with hot lead calmer and safer for the fluid bed system itself.

The right air source depends on the paint you use. A small air pump such as APS 100 can be used only for very fine and lightweight powder paints that do not need strong airflow. If you want to work with heavier, coarser or less easily fluidised powder paint, it is better to use a stronger air pump such as APS 400.

The Medium fluid bed has one air inlet. If you use an APS 400 air pump with two outlets, both outlets should be combined through a suitable X-splitter into one hose leading to the fluid bed. This allows more air to be delivered into the single inlet and helps the fluid bed work more steadily. The airflow must always be adjusted so the paint is lifted evenly, but not blown out of the cylinder.

For rubber coatings for lead, the Hailea compressor is the ideal choice. Rubber coating is heavier than fine powder paint, creates more resistance and requires a stable airflow with enough performance reserve. If you want to use rubber coating in the Medium fluid bed, we recommend a more powerful compressor such as the Hailea ACO-208 Compressor for Rubber Coating.

When does the Powder Paint Fluid Bed Medium make the most sense?
– when coating jig heads and cheburashka weights,
– when coating small to medium pilkers,
– for carp leads and standard fishing weights,
– when a small plastic cup is already too low or too light,
– when you do not want to fill a large XL fluid bed for smaller batches,
– when working with fine powder paints or more demanding coatings with a stronger air source,
– when you want a more stable and reliable setup for regular home lead coating.

The Medium fluid bed is suitable mainly for anglers who want more precision and stability than a small cup can offer, but do not need the largest XL setup. If you coat long sea fishing pilkers, larger end weights or want to work with larger batches, the better option is the Powder Paint Fluid Bed XL, which offers a larger diameter, higher working space and compatibility with the XL extension cup.

Recommended basic workflow
1. Pour a suitable amount of lead coating paint into the fluid bed.
2. Connect the correct air source according to the type of paint used.
3. If using APS 400 with two outlets, use a suitable X-splitter to combine the airflow into one inlet of the fluid bed.
4. Adjust the airflow so the paint is lifted gently and evenly.
5. Preheat the lead casting to the correct working temperature.
6. Dip the casting briefly and carefully into the fluidised paint.
7. Let the coating melt onto the surface and, depending on the paint type, carry out final curing if required.

For a good result, the casting must be clean, the lead must be heated correctly and the airflow must be stable. If the lead is too cold, the paint will not bond properly. If it is too hot, the coating can become too thick or uneven. A short dip into properly fluidised paint usually works better than a long dip.

Powder Paint Fluid Bed Medium is recommended as a smart middle option for anglers who want to coat lead more regularly, more precisely and with more working reserve than a small plastic cup can offer. For very fine powder paints, APS 100 may be sufficient. For stronger airflow, APS 400 with a suitable splitter makes more sense, and for rubber coatings we recommend the Hailea compressor.
