Fluid Bed for Lead Coating Paints

Product detailed description
Amigo Your Mold Fluid Bed is a compact fluid bed for lead coating paints, designed mainly for applying fine powder paints evenly to preheated lead castings. It is suitable for jig heads, smaller pilkers, cheburashka weights, carp leads and other smaller fishing weights where you want a cleaner and more repeatable finish than with ordinary dipping in a cup.
In practice, a fluid bed makes the difference between paint that simply “sticks somehow” and a surface that looks clean, even and professional. Inside the fluid bed, fine powder is lifted by air and starts to behave like a light fluid layer. The heated lead casting is dipped into this layer only briefly, and the paint bonds more evenly to the surface, including edges, rounded transitions and casting details.
Amigo is a small and practical fluid bed for anglers and home makers who cast their own leads, jig heads or smaller lures and want to improve the quality of the coating. It makes the most sense with fine powder paints, smaller batches and smaller to medium-sized lead castings.
The construction consists of a base frame, a plastic adapter with a regulating valve and a plastic cup. The cup has a diameter of 55 mm and a height of 80 mm, making it suitable for working with smaller amounts of paint. This is useful when you do not want to pour a large amount of powder into a large fluid bed and only need to coat a specific colour or a smaller batch of castings.
The regulating valve allows you to fine-tune the airflow according to the type of paint and the amount of material in the cup. Correctly adjusted airflow should not blow the paint out of the cup. It should only lift it gently. The surface of the paint should move slightly so that the heated lead can be dipped into an evenly fluidised layer.
With this type of smaller fluid bed, small air pumps such as APS100 are often used. However, it is important to understand their limit: this type of air pump is suitable mainly for fine powder paints. With heavier rubber coatings for lead, it usually does not have enough power to lift the material properly and keep it stable in a fluidised state.
Rubber coating can be used with the Amigo fluid bed only when connected to a stronger compressor that provides a much more stable airflow than a small standard air pump. In this setup, Amigo makes sense mainly when you want to coat only a few smaller sinkers, jig heads or smaller weights and do not want to use a larger fluid bed for such a small amount of work.
For regular rubber coating, larger batches, heavier pilkers, cheburashka weights or sea fishing end weights, a more powerful setup with a larger and more stable fluid bed is a better choice. Rubber coatings are heavier than fine powder paints, create more resistance and require stable air with enough performance reserve.
When does the Amigo fluid bed make the most sense?
– for coating smaller jig heads with fine powder paint,
– for coating smaller pilkers, cheburashka weights and fishing sinkers,
– when working with a smaller amount of paint,
– for smaller batches of lead castings,
– for quick testing of colours and colour combinations,
– when you want a more even result than with standard cup dipping.
Recommended basic workflow
1. Pour a suitable amount of fine powder paint into the cup.
2. Connect an air pump or compressor according to the type of paint used.
3. Adjust the airflow so that the paint is only gently lifted and not blown out of the cup.
4. Preheat the lead casting to the correct working temperature.
5. Dip the casting briefly into the fluidised paint.
6. Let the paint melt onto the surface and, depending on the paint type, carry out final curing if required.
For a good result, the casting must be clean, the lead must be heated correctly and the airflow must be set properly. If the lead is too cold, the paint will not bond correctly. If the lead is too hot, the coating can become too thick or uneven. A short dip into properly fluidised paint usually works better than a long dip.
Amigo Your Mold Fluid Bed is a practical choice for simple and clean coating of smaller lead castings with fine powder paint. When connected to a stronger compressor, it can also be used for small amounts of rubber coating, for example when you need to coat just a few smaller sinkers or jig heads. For regular work with rubber coating and larger castings, we recommend choosing a more powerful setup with a larger fluid bed.
