Product detailed description
Sportex Magnus Seamaster Travel Jigging is a travel range for anglers who actively work a metal jig or pilk from a boat and also need a compact packed size. The 190 cm / 30 lb model is the shortest and most agile beside the gunwale; the 215 cm models provide more leverage, better lure control around the boat and a choice of 20, 30 and 50 lb classes.
The Japanese high-performance carbon blank has a visible external braid and progressive power distribution. A responsive tip helps read contact with the lure and seabed, while the lower section retains reserve for cod, coalfish, pollack, ling, redfish or halibut. The specification includes robust SIC guides, a Seaguide reel seat, durable Duplon handle and a Pac-Bay cross gimbal with a protective EVA cap.
Every version offered here is designed for a multiplier reel. The specialised boat-guide layout is not built for a spinning reel. A multiplier keeps the line above the blank, enables controlled lure descent and gives precise drift control, so pair the rod with suitable line capacity and a smooth drag.
The 20 lb class is the most responsive choice for shallower water, moderate current and lighter active jigging. The 30 lb class is the versatile middle ground for typical Norwegian conditions; the 190 cm model is more compact, while the 215 cm model works with a longer lever. The 50 lb class belongs in deeper water, stronger current, faster drift and with bulkier lures or heavier rigs. Do not choose only by target species — depth and hydrodynamic resistance often determine the power you need.
The natural pairing is a compact vertical metal jig, speed jig or pilk. The 20 lb model favours responsive work in shallower water, 30 lb covers the broadest range of typical Norwegian conditions and 50 lb belongs where current, drift and depth demand substantially heavier metal. Select lure weight by the conditions rather than only by the size of the target fish.
Explore suitable metal lures under pilks and speed jigs. A slim jig descends faster and holds contact more efficiently through the water column; a wider profile creates stronger action but also loads the rod and angler more heavily in current. Match assist hooks, rings, leader and drag as one system for cod, coalfish, pollack, redfish and occasional halibut.
The pound figure indicates the power class of a boat rod, not one exact casting weight. For vertical fishing, include the complete lure, additional hook and terminal hardware, as well as the profile's resistance in the water. Lower the rig under control; these rods are not designed for full-power overhead casting with a deep-water load.
SPORTEX lists the rod-only transport length as 71 cm for the three-piece MT1930 and 63 cm for the four-piece 215 cm models. The supplied rigid tube is longer at approximately 81 cm and 74 cm respectively. Plan airline luggage around the tube dimension, not only the technical-table figure.
Variant comparison — Sportex Magnus Seamaster Travel Jigging Saltwater Rod
| Version | Model | Length | Weight / power class | Pieces | Transport length | Rod weight | Guides | Reel / reel seat | Recommended use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 190 cm / 30 lb / Travel – Multiplier Reel | MT1930 | 190 cm | 30 lb class | 3 | 71 cm | 226 g | 9 | Multiplier / Seaguide | Shortest and most agile 30 lb version beside the gunwale; active jigging in typical Norwegian conditions. |
| 215 cm / 20 lb / Travel – Multiplier Reel | MT2220 | 215 cm | 20 lb class | 4 | 63 cm | 258 g | 10 | Multiplier / Seaguide | Lighter active jigging, shallower water and moderate current; more responsive work with smaller lures. |
| 215 cm / 30 lb / Travel – Multiplier Reel | MT2230 | 215 cm | 30 lb class | 4 | 63 cm | 269 g | 10 | Multiplier / Seaguide | Most versatile travel model for vertical jigs and pilks in typical Norwegian conditions. |
| 215 cm / 50 lb / Travel – Multiplier Reel | MT2250 | 215 cm | 50 lb class | 4 | 63 cm | 285 g | 10 | Multiplier / Seaguide | Deeper water, strong current, fast drift and heavier lures; the greatest power reserve in the range. |
The 215 cm / 30 lb model is the most versatile one-rod travel choice for Norway. Choose the 190 cm / 30 lb version when a shorter lever beside the gunwale and lower in-hand weight matter most. The 215 cm / 20 lb model is more pleasant for lighter, shallower fishing, while the 215 cm / 50 lb model makes sense when conditions regularly demand a heavy rig — not simply as an automatically 'better' and stronger rod.

The weight of a hand-finished rod may vary by up to 8% due to manufacturing tolerance. Always assess gram ratings and pound classes together with lure shape and resistance, depth, current, drift speed, line diameter and reel-drag setting.
A carbon blank conducts electricity. Never use the rod during a thunderstorm or near overhead power lines. Maintain a safe distance from electrical conductors during transport and assembly; contact between a carbon rod and a live source can cause a life-threatening injury.
After every saltwater session, remove the reel and rinse the rod with a gentle stream of fresh water. Wipe it down, separate the sections and let everything dry completely. Regularly inspect guide inserts and frames, section joints, the reel-seat thread, handle and butt. Do not allow salt to dry in the thread or around the guides, and do not use a pressure washer.
SPORTEX provides a 10-year extended manufacturer's warranty on the blank. Activation requires registration of the rod within 30 days of purchase and retention of the receipt. The extended warranty applies to the blank; other components and damage caused by overloading, impact or improper handling remain subject to the standard terms.
Frequently asked questions — Sportex Magnus Seamaster Travel Jigging Saltwater Rod
Which version is the most versatile for Norway?
For most trips with one rod, the 215 cm / 30 lb model is the most practical. It balances sensitivity, leverage and reserve for typical vertical jigs and pilks. Choose 190 cm / 30 lb if you prefer a shorter rod beside the gunwale.
Is this rod designed for a spinning reel?
No. Every Travel Jigging version uses a boat-guide layout and is designed for a multiplier reel. Choose a different model with the correct guide layout if you want to use a spinning reel.
What do the 20, 30 and 50 lb ratings mean?
They indicate boat-rod power class, not one precise overhead-casting weight. Select the class by depth, current, drift, lure resistance and total rig weight.
Which lures suit Travel Jigging best?
Compact metal jigs, speed jigs and pilks designed for vertical presentation. Select weight and profile by depth, current, drift and the 20, 30 or 50 lb power class; the rod is not intended for power-casting a deep-water load.
How does Travel Jigging differ from Travel Boat?
Travel Jigging focuses on active work with artificial lures. Travel Boat is better suited to lowering natural baits, bottom fishing and heavier boat rigs. Both ranges use a multiplier reel.
Will the rod fit airline luggage?
The rod-only transport length is 63 or 71 cm, but the rigid tube is approximately 74 or 81 cm. Check the airline limit against the outer tube dimension before travel.
How does the 10-year SPORTEX warranty work?
The extended warranty applies to the blank and requires registration within 30 days of purchase plus proof of purchase. Other components and mechanical damage remain subject to the standard terms.
