Detailed information

Product detailed description

Pilker ICE fish NOR-X 150 g – Blue is the heaviest and most contact-focused member of this compact ICE fish X metal jig family. It is intended for conditions where 100 g begins to lose precision, current pushes the lure away from the working line or faster drift creates too much bow in the braid. The 150 g version reaches depth faster, holds its line more reliably and makes it easier to keep the jig closer beneath the boat. The official model is ICE fish Pilker X Blue. At SAF we classify it as NOR-X because it naturally fits Norwegian jigging while using a modern baitfish shape, a blue-and-silver finish and a more active response on the fall and retrieve.

The 150 g weight makes the most sense in deeper water, stronger current, wind and faster drift, when the lure must return to the working layer without a long delay. It suits vertical jigging from a boat, working deep drop-offs and banks, and searching the space where fish are holding several metres above the bottom. It is not a universal deep-water pirk for every Norwegian situation. In extreme depth and very strong current, even 150 g may still be too light. Within the NOR-X family, however, it provides the greatest reserve for anglers who want firm contact and a faster descent without moving to a much bulkier body.

The main technical advantage remains the deliberately offset centre of gravity. The jig therefore does not behave only like a heavy piece of metal dropping straight down without expression. The body can roll slightly, move away from a straight line, expose its flank and produce a short flash. The greater weight adds momentum and a faster route to the working depth, but the lure can still create a moment of instability when worked correctly. That movement may suggest a small baitfish losing orientation or trying to escape.

The design also uses 3D details, a prominent eye and a clear baitfish silhouette. The head, blue back, silver flanks, light belly and tapered tail create the profile of a smaller saltwater prey fish. As the jig moves, it exposes its sides and reflects light, so the presentation does not rely on colour alone. It works through a combination of silhouette, flash, speed, direction changes and the brief moment after a lift or acceleration when the body loses stability. The compact shape also limits unnecessary water resistance and helps the lure reach the required depth more efficiently.

The blue-and-silver finish has a practical purpose in saltwater. The blue back blends into the blue-green light environment, while the silver flanks provide reflection and contrast. In clearer water and normal daylight, the lure can resemble a small herring, sprat, sardine or another slender baitfish. At greater depth, the role of colour gradually changes, but the bright flank, silhouette, speed and body angle remain important parts of the signal.

The NOR-X 150 g is designed primarily for boat fishing. Lower it to the required layer, use short to medium lifts and watch the braid throughout the descent. Greater weight does not mean that large, aggressive upward jerks are necessary. It is often more effective to lift the jig briskly, allow it to change direction for a moment and return it under control to the same depth. When fish are holding in the water column, there is no need to send the lure to the bottom after every cycle. More precise fishing comes from firm contact, changes of pace and repeated work inside the same productive layer.

During vertical jigging, the main advantage of 150 g is its ability to hold the intended line. Compared with 100 g, it returns to the fish faster, is carried less by current and can remain closer beneath the vessel when the boat is moving more quickly. This improves the ability to read both the fall and the moment of a take. Atlantic cod, coalfish or pollack may intercept the jig on the descent, showing themselves only through a stop, sudden slackness or a change in line direction. For that reason, do not allow the lure to fall on completely slack braid and maintain control throughout the descent.

The 150 g weight also allows the use of a stronger rod, heavier braid and more robust rigging than the lighter members of the family. The whole setup still needs to remain balanced. Braid that is unnecessarily thick creates more resistance in the water and can remove part of the advantage gained from using the heavier jig. The rod must have a suitable working range and enough reserve for repeated lifts and fighting fish in deeper water.

From shore, 150 g can be used for heavier shore jigging only with tackle that is genuinely designed for this load. The higher weight helps with long casting, headwind and fast access to deeper water, but in shallow conditions the lure may fall too quickly and shorten the most attractive part of the presentation. The 150 g version should therefore not be chosen simply because it is the largest. Its value lies in control under more demanding conditions, not in being suitable everywhere.

In Norway, 150 g makes sense in fjords, around deeper rocky drop-offs, above banks and in places where fish are feeding on smaller prey but the water already demands more weight. The blue-and-silver profile can attract Atlantic cod, coalfish, pollack or mackerel. It is intended for deeper and more contact-focused fishing than 100 g, but it is still not a specialised halibut jig or a universal lure for the strongest Norwegian current.

Its use in warmer and tropical saltwater fishing comes from the compact shape, strong flash and freedom to choose your own rigging. During faster boat jigging or heavier shore jigging, the 150 g NOR-X may suit bonito, bluefish and other medium-sized pelagic predators that respond to a fast metal profile. It is not a specialised speed jig for large tuna, but as an accessible and customisable lure it offers broader use than traditional fjord jigging alone.

The jig is supplied without a hook and without split rings. This is not a drawback; it allows you to build the setup around the target species and retrieve style. For traditional Norwegian jigging, use a quality saltwater treble hook. For a cleaner action, choose a strong single hook. For modern vertical or faster presentations, a single or double assist hook may be more suitable. The split ring, hook and any snap must match the greater working load of the lure, the rod power and the expected pressure during the strike and fight.

How the Pilker ICE fish NOR-X range is divided

The same blue-and-silver model is available in four separate weights. This is not a rigid depth chart, but a practical guide for choosing according to depth, current, wind, drift and the required sink rate.

Weight Main role When it makes sense Product
60 g The lightest and liveliest option Shallower water, weaker current, slower drift, lighter rods and active fishing from shore or boat. NOR-X 60 g
80 g The light all-rounder in the range Moderate current, wind and situations where 60 g moves off line but a lively fall is still important. NOR-X 80 g
100 g A practical middle working weight Greater depth, wind, stronger current and a faster return to the working layer. NOR-X 100 g
150 g The heaviest option with the firmest contact Deeper water, stronger current, faster drift and a need to keep the jig closer beneath the boat. NOR-X 150 g

With the 150 g version, the rigging must match the greater working load. The hook and split ring need sufficient strength, but they should not be unnecessarily oversized to the point where they restrict the body action. A saltwater treble hook suits traditional jigging, a strong single hook gives a cleaner setup, and a single or double assist hook may be used for vertical jigging.

The practical rule for the whole family is simple: use the lightest weight that still provides reliable contact and keeps the lure on the intended line. The 150 g version is the logical step when 100 g is no longer enough. If even 150 g cannot hold the chosen layer, the current creates a large bow in the braid or the jig moves too far away from the boat, it is time to switch to a heavier Norwegian model. When the lure falls unnecessarily fast and loses its lively character, return to 100 g.

After every use in saltwater, rinse the jig in fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the body, eyes, split ring and chosen hook setup. Whether you use a treble hook, single hook or assist hook, the weakest damaged component determines the reliability of the whole rig.

Pilker ICE fish NOR-X 150 g – Blue is designed for anglers who want the firmest contact in this compact family, a faster descent and better line control in deeper water and stronger current. The offset centre of gravity creates direction changes, the blue-and-silver body provides flash, and 150 g offers the greatest working reserve in the NOR-X range.

Frequently asked questions – Pilker ICE fish NOR-X 150 g Blue

What is the 150 g weight best suited to?

The 150 g version suits deeper water, stronger current, faster drift and vertical jigging from a boat. It is useful when 100 g begins to lose contact and the jig needs to remain closer beneath the vessel.

How does the offset centre of gravity work?

The offset centre of gravity helps the jig work more actively on the fall and retrieve. The body can roll slightly, move off line and expose its flanks, producing flashes similar to a small baitfish that has lost stability or is trying to escape.

What does the blue-and-silver jig imitate?

It is not an exact copy of one species. The blue back, silver flanks, light belly, 3D eye and slender baitfish profile create the general signal of a small herring, sprat, sardine or other saltwater prey fish.

How do I choose between 100 and 150 g?

Choose 100 g for medium-depth water, stronger current and a livelier working character. The 150 g version adds a faster descent, firmer contact and better line control in deeper water, stronger current or faster drift.

How should I work the NOR-X 150 g?

From a boat, use short to medium lifts and watch the braid throughout the descent. The higher weight does not require aggressive movements; accurate returns to the same working layer and control of changes in sink speed are more important.

Is the jig supplied with a hook?

No. The jig is supplied without a hook and without split rings. It can be rigged with a saltwater treble hook, a strong single hook or a single or double assist hook according to the target species and retrieve style.

How should I care for the jig after saltwater fishing?

Rinse it in fresh water, allow it to dry completely and inspect the eyes, split rings and hook. Replace any damaged or corroded components before the next session.
