Product detailed description
Guideline Scandi Tips are interchangeable fly line tips designed for modern multi-tip shooting head systems. They allow the angler to adjust depth, swing speed, turnover and presentation without changing the whole fly line. By combining the correct Scandi body with the right tip, you can build a very flexible setup for salmon, sea trout, steelhead, migratory trout and trout spey fishing.
The main idea is simple: the body creates the power and casting profile, while the tip controls the final presentation of the fly. A floating tip keeps the fly high in the water column, intermediate and hover/intermediate tips slow the swing and cut the surface film, while sinking tips take the fly deeper and give more control in faster current, colder water or deeper pools.
The range covers tips from 10' to 18' and from 4 g / 61 grains to 13 g / 200 grains. The lightest 10' / 4 g tips are made for lighter ULS-style bodies and single-hand or light trout spey setups. Heavier and longer tips are designed to match Compact and Classic Scandi bodies for switch and double-hand rods.
The 10' / 4 g model is built as a single-density tip on a 20 lb monofilament core. This gives the lightest tips a full and consistent sinking behaviour, while keeping them suitable for lighter line systems. The heavier models from 10' / 7 g and up use a double-density construction on a 32 lb low-stretch braided core. This improves control, turnover and contact when fishing larger systems, stronger current or deeper water.
Each density has its own taper design. That is important because a floating tip, a hover/intermediate tip and a fast-sinking tip do not behave the same way during casting or fishing. Guideline has adjusted the tapers and density splits so the tips turn over smoothly, sink correctly and work with the intended body rather than feeling like a random piece of line added to the front of the setup.
All Scandi Tips are supplied with factory loops on both ends, making them easy to change on the water. The rear end is also marked with ID marking, so the angler can quickly identify the model and density without guessing. This is especially useful when carrying several tips in a wallet and changing between float, intermediate and sinking presentations during the day.

| 18' 13 g / 200 gr | 18' / 5.48 m | 13 g / 200 gr | 32 lb low-stretch braid | Float, Hover/Int, S1/S3, S2/S4, S3/S5, S4/S6, S5/S7 | larger double-hand systems, bigger rivers, heavier bodies |
The density choice should always follow the water, the fly and the speed of the swing. Float is the right choice when you want to keep the fly high, fish near the surface or maintain a lighter presentation. Intermediate and Hover/Int tips cut the surface and help stabilise the swing without pulling the fly too deep. The sinking combinations are used when the fly needs to fish deeper, slower or with more control in stronger current.
Tips marked S1/S3, S2/S4, S3/S5, S4/S6 and S5/S7 are double-density designs. The rear section and front section sink at different rates, helping the line create a smoother underwater angle. This improves contact with the fly and prevents the tip from behaving like a hinge. The result is better turnover during the cast and more controlled fishing during the swing.
Scandi Tips make most sense when used as part of a complete multi-tip system. Pair them with a compatible Scandi body, running line and the right rod class. A lighter 10' / 4 g tip belongs on lighter ULS-style systems, while longer and heavier tips belong with switch and double-hand rods. Matching the correct tip to the correct body is the key to making the whole setup cast and fish properly.
For storage and fast changes on the water, it is useful to keep several tips in a dedicated tip wallet. Carrying float, intermediate and one or two sinking densities covers a very wide range of real fishing situations. This is exactly where the Scandi Tip system becomes valuable: you can adapt to depth, temperature, water level and fly size without changing the full shooting head.
The coating is made from PVC that is free from dangerous phthalates, and the tips are delivered in a reusable zip-lock recycled LDPE bag that can also be used for storage in a pack. For the angler, the most important practical points remain clear: factory loops, ID marking, correct taper design and a broad density range that allows one line system to cover many different situations.
Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline Scandi Tips
What are Guideline Scandi Tips used for?
They are used as interchangeable front tips for multi-tip shooting head systems. By changing the tip, you can adjust the depth, swing speed and presentation of the fly without changing the whole fly line.
Which body should I use with Scandi Tips?
The lightest 10' / 4 g tips are suitable for lighter ULS-style bodies, while the heavier 10', 12', 15' and 18' models are designed to match Compact and Classic Scandi bodies for switch and double-hand setups.
What does Density mean?
Density describes how the tip behaves in the water. Floating tips stay high, intermediate and hover/intermediate tips cut the surface film, and sinking tips take the fly deeper and help control the swing in stronger or deeper water.
What is the difference between single density and double density?
A single-density tip has one sink behaviour through the whole length. A double-density tip combines two sinking sections, which creates a smoother underwater angle, better contact and improved control during the swing.
Why do the 10' / 4 g tips have different density options?
The 10' / 4 g tips are lighter single-density tips for ULS-style systems. They are offered as Float, Intermediate, Sink 3, Sink 5 and Sink 7 to give light setups a useful range from surface work to deeper fishing.
Why do the heavier tips use S1/S3, S2/S4 and similar markings?
Those markings describe double-density tips. For example, S3/S5 means the rear part and front part have different sink rates. This helps the tip sink and fish in a more controlled way than a simple single-density sinking tip.
Do Scandi Tips have loops?
Yes. They are factory-looped on both ends, which makes it easy to connect them loop-to-loop with the body and leader system.
How do I identify the tips in my wallet?
The tips have rear ID marking, so you can quickly check model and density before connecting the tip to your line system.
Are these tips only for salmon fishing?
No. They are mainly designed for salmon, sea trout, steelhead and migratory fishing, but the lighter tips are also very useful for trout spey and lighter switch or ULS-style setups.
