Detailed information

Product detailed description

Guideline NT11 Switch 11'6" #6/7 (6PC) is the lightest model in the premium NT11 Switch 6-PC range. It is built for anglers who fish large migratory trout, steelhead and salmon in smaller to mid-sized rivers and want a compact rod with real double-hand capability, smooth spey performance and the possibility of occasional single-hand use when needed.

This is not a long single-hand rod and not a full-size salmon double-hander. The 11'6" #6/7 sits exactly in the space where a switch rod makes most sense: limited back-cast room, smaller rivers, lower water, stealthier presentations, compact heads, shorter spey casts and fishing situations where control, mobility and clean line handling are more important than maximum casting distance.

The action is deep progressive with Fast Recovery. The rod loads deeply and very smoothly, so it is easy to feel the line during water-anchored casts, roll casts and short spey work. At the same time, the recovery is fast and stable, which keeps loops clean and prevents the rod from feeling slow or collapsed. This gives the #6/7 model a very readable casting rhythm with enough power to handle wind, current and larger fish.

The blank is built on T1100 CAP Technology, Guideline’s highest NT11 construction platform. It combines ultra-elastic 46T Low Resin Material, strong T1100 graphite, carbon-scrim reinforcement in a Complex Axial Pattern and high-strength resin technology. In practical fishing, this means low blank weight, excellent recovery speed, high strength under load and very clean power transfer through the full blank.

The 11'6" #6/7 is the stealthiest and most delicate model in the NT11 Switch family. It is especially strong for large migratory trout, steelhead, grilse, smaller salmon rivers and situations where a heavy double-hand rod would be too much. It can still handle proper compact shooting heads, but it keeps the presentation lighter and more controlled than the stronger #7/8, #8/9 or #10/11 Hucho versions.

With a recommended head weight of 24–26 g / 370–400 grains, this rod pairs very well with compact Scandi-style heads, 3D+ Compact heads and Compact Scandi Body + tip setups. It is made for anglers who want efficient short spey casts, good line lift, smooth turnover and enough reserve for real fish — but without turning the setup into a heavy salmon rod.

Size Length Recommended head weight Rod weight Character Best use
11'6" #6/7 11'6" / 350 cm 24-26 g / 370-400 gr 142 g light switch / compact spey migratory trout, steelhead, grilse, smaller salmon rivers

The #6/7 model is the right choice when you want a premium switch rod for technical fishing rather than brute force. It makes sense on rivers where you need controlled swing presentation, good line contact, shorter casts under pressure and the ability to adapt quickly to changing water. The very low swing weight also makes the rod pleasant during a long day, especially when you are fishing compact heads, lighter tips and flies that do not require a heavier #8/9 or Hucho-style rod.

Compared with the NT11 Switch 11'6" #7/8, this #6/7 version is lighter, more delicate and better suited to cautious fish, clearer water, smaller rivers and more precise presentations. Compared with the #8/9, it is less about heavy lines and big fish power and more about control, feel and efficient short spey performance. Compared with the #10/11 Hucho, it is a completely different tool — the #6/7 is the refined light switch model, not a heavy specialist rod.

The 6-piece construction makes this rod extremely travel-friendly. It is easier to pack for trips, flights, river hopping and mobile fishing, while still keeping the premium NT11 feeling and power. For anglers travelling for steelhead, sea trout, migratory trout or smaller-river salmon, this is a very practical advantage.

The component level matches the flagship NT11 standard. The rod features FLOR-grade cork with reinforced rear grip and fighting butt, lightweight titanium stripping guides, high-quality titanium-coated running guides, a hard-anodized custom reel seat, matte satin carbon grey blank, subtle blue trim wraps, 6-piece construction, rod bag and protective tube.

Frequently Asked Questions – Guideline NT11 Switch 11'6" #6/7 (6PC)

Who is the NT11 Switch 11'6" #6/7 made for?

It is made for anglers who want a light premium switch rod for large migratory trout, steelhead, grilse, smaller salmon rivers and technical short spey fishing with compact heads.

Is the #6/7 model strong enough for salmon?

Yes, within the right context. It is suitable for smaller salmon rivers, grilse, lower water and controlled presentations. For larger salmon, heavier tips, bigger flies or stronger current, the #7/8 or #8/9 versions will be more powerful choices.

What line weight should I use?

The recommended head weight is 24–26 g / 370–400 grains. The rod works well with compact Scandi-style heads, 3D+ Compact heads and Compact Scandi Body + tip systems.

How is the #6/7 different from the #7/8?

The #6/7 is lighter, more delicate and better for stealthier presentations, smaller rivers and technical fishing. The #7/8 gives more reach, power and versatility for bigger water, stronger fish and heavier line systems.

Can it be used single-handed?

Yes, occasionally. Guideline describes the low swing weight as pleasant enough for single-hand casts when needed. Its main role is still switch / short spey fishing, but the rod is light enough to stay versatile in tight conditions.

Why choose a switch rod instead of a full double-hand rod?

A switch rod is shorter, lighter and more compact. It is easier to use on smaller rivers, under trees, in limited back-cast space and when you do not need the full length of a classic salmon double-hander.

Why choose NT11 Switch instead of a cheaper switch rod?

The NT11 platform gives lower blank weight, faster recovery, higher strength and a more refined casting feel. This matters when you fish all day, cast compact heads repeatedly and still need confidence when a strong fish takes.
