Lead Coating Powder - Silty Green

Product detailed description
Silty Green is perfect when you want your lead to blend in naturally on muddy, weedy or algae-covered bottoms. This rubberized coating forms a tough protective layer that holds up well against gravel, rocks and rough handling.
In practice, it’s most often used on heavy carp leads and casting weights (in-line leads, backleads, flat sinkers, hangers and other “workhorse” pieces). Compared to classic powder paint, this coating is thicker and heavier, so a consistent airflow matters — that’s why an air-driven fluid bed works best with a reliable compressor like Hailea ACO 208.
You can mix colours together — Silty Green is a strong base for natural blends and subtle darkening. For a stronger camo look, lightly dust a second colour onto the hot base layer (or pre-mix shades) and then cure for durability.
recommended coating process (proven):
-
prep: clean and degrease the lead (clean surface = better adhesion)
-
heat: heat the lead to approx. 160–200 °C (hot-air oven usually 10–15 min, heat gun only a few seconds – the lead must not start melting)
-
apply the coating:
• fluid bed: best for batches; rubberized coating needs stable airflow (that’s why Hailea ACO 208)
• quick dip into powder: dip the hot lead briefly and pull it out immediately; shake the powder container beforehand -
tap off: gently tap off excess powder for an even layer
-
cure: for maximum durability, bake at about 180 °C for 10–20 min
-
cool down: let it cool in open air or hang it to cure fully
tip for a silty finish: while the base layer is still hot, lightly dust a darker (or lighter) shade to create a natural, irregular camouflage tone — then cure.
