SaBoFlex Standard Blue is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It provides a standard blue tone for whole bodies, backs, flanks, bellies and contrasting laminates. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

Standard Blue is a basic blue shade. Aqua Blue, Baby Blue and Transparent Blue are separate shades or product ranges; their properties must not be attributed to Standard Blue. Without a technical data sheet, we do not describe it as metallic, transparent or UV-active, nor do we assign it a precise level of opacity. Always judge the actual appearance from a cooled sample made with your own plastisol.

For colours in the SaBoFlex Standard range, SAF recommends adding them in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-looking base. In clear plastisol at working temperature, you can monitor the change in shade and build the intensity gradually. Prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the finished appearance depends on the base plastisol, dose, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount; a mixture that is too pale can be coloured further, but concentrate that has already been added cannot be removed. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, colour dose and additives used.

Standard Blue can be used for an entire blue body, back, flank, belly or a separate laminate layer. White creates a paler adjoining area, black a darker back, and yellow or green a stronger colour transition. In a small test batch, white or black can be used carefully to adjust the lightness. Add blue, silver or holographic high-temperature glitter only after mixing the base colour.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches or equipping a workshop with a broader palette of colours. The 250 g bottle makes more sense for regular production or repeated use of the same recipe; the greater mass of its contents also makes it easier to shake the whole bottle thoroughly. The concentration and recommended method of use remain the same for both pack sizes.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect it from frost and significant temperature fluctuations. If the sealed bottle has become cold, allow it to return naturally to room temperature before homogenising the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator, hotplate or in a microwave oven.

Packaging notice: Particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or leave a mark on the label, even when the bottle is closed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise for any marking of the label. After dosing, wipe the bottle neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealed bag.

How does Standard Blue differ from Aqua Blue, Baby Blue and Transparent Blue?

They are separate shades and product ranges. Standard Blue is a basic blue; without a technical data sheet, we do not attribute the metallic character of Aqua Blue, the paler appearance of Baby Blue or the translucency of Transparent Blue to it.

When should I use blue for the whole body, and when only for the back or flank?

Using it for the whole body creates a uniform blue base. A back, flank or separate laminate layer preserves another colour in the lure and adds blue only to a defined area.

How can I adjust the lightness of Standard Blue?

In a small test batch, try lightening the blue with compatible white or darkening it very carefully with black. Add each colour in small increments and check a cooled sample.

Which colours create a contrasting laminate with Standard Blue?

Which glitter can I try with Standard Blue?
