SaBoFlex Standard Red is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It provides a basic red shade for full bodies, bellies, tails, side stripes and contrasting details. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

Standard Red is a basic red shade. Fluo Red, Transparent Blood Red and Ox Blood are separate shades or product ranges; their properties cannot be applied to Standard Red. The name alone does not confirm fluorescence, UV activity, transparency or any precise level of opacity. Always assess the actual appearance on a cooled sample made with your own plastisol.

For colours in the SaBoFlex Standard range, SAF recommends adding them in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-looking base. In clear plastisol at working temperature, you can monitor the change in shade and build the intensity gradually. Prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the finished appearance depends on the base plastisol, dose, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount; a mixture that is too pale can be coloured further, but concentrate that has already been added cannot be removed. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, colour dose and additives used.

Standard Red can be used for a full red body, belly, tail, side stripe or smaller contrasting detail. Pairing it with black creates a distinct dark back, while white provides a lighter opposing layer. In a small test batch, you can also trial transitions with orange or brown. Suitable high-temperature red, gold or holographic glitter can complement the shade, but should not obscure the chosen base colour.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches or equipping a workshop with a broader palette of colours. The 250 g bottle makes more sense for regular production or repeated use of the same recipe; the greater mass of its contents also makes it easier to shake the whole bottle thoroughly. The concentration and recommended method of use remain the same for both pack sizes.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect it from frost and significant temperature fluctuations. If the sealed bottle has become cold, allow it to return naturally to room temperature before homogenising the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator, hotplate or in a microwave oven.

Packaging notice: Particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or leave a mark on the label, even when the bottle is closed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise for any marking of the label. After dosing, wipe the bottle neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealed bag.

Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Standard Red

Is Standard Red fluorescent or UV-active?

The name Standard Red confirms only the red shade. Fluorescent and UV products are separate, specifically labelled ranges; without a technical data sheet, we do not attribute either effect to Standard Red.

When should I use red for the whole body, and when only as a detail?

A full body creates a uniform red appearance. Using it for the belly, tail, side stripe or a small detail preserves the lure's other colours and adds only a defined red area.

How can I create a darker red shade?

In a small test batch, you can very carefully add black or brown. Start with the smallest possible amount because a dark concentrate can deepen the mixture quickly, and assess the resulting ratio only after the sample has cooled.

Which colour creates a contrasting laminate with Standard Red?

White creates a light opposing layer, black a dark back, and yellow or orange a warmer transition. Test every combination in a small batch first.

Which glitter can I try with Standard Red?

Red follows the base colour, gold adds a warm flash and holographic glitter adds a multicoloured flash. Add glitter only after mixing the shade, and use a type suitable for hot plastisol.

Why might the red in a photograph differ from the finished casting?

A photograph shows concentrated paste under particular lighting. In a casting, the dose, thickness, plastisol and other additives all affect the colour, so use a cooled test sample as your reference.
