SaBoFlex Standard Black is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It provides a black base for dark bodies, backs, silhouettes, contrasting laminates and small details. This is a colour concentrate intended to be mixed into base plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

Standard Black is a basic black shade, not another dark colour variation such as Junebug, Ox Blood, dark green or brown. The name alone does not confirm a specific degree of opacity, UV activity or a non-migrating formulation. Always judge the actual appearance from a cooled sample made with your own plastisol.

For colours in the SaBoFlex Standard range, SAF recommends adding them in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-looking base. In clear plastisol at working temperature, you can monitor the change in shade and build the intensity gradually. Prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the finished appearance depends on the base plastisol, dose, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount; a mixture that is too pale can be coloured further, but concentrate that has already been added cannot be removed. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, colour dose and additives used.

Standard Black can be used for a completely dark body, a back, flank stripe, eye or another small detail, or as a narrow contrasting layer next to white, yellow, pink or orange. Because a dark concentrate can quickly darken the whole mixture, begin with a very small addition. Suitable high-temperature silver, blue or holographic glitter can add flash to the dark base; test the ratio in a small batch first.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches or equipping a workshop with a broader palette of colours. The 250 g bottle makes more sense for regular production or repeated use of the same recipe; the greater mass of its contents also makes it easier to shake the whole bottle thoroughly. The concentration and recommended method of use remain the same for both pack sizes.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect it from frost and significant temperature fluctuations. If the sealed bottle has become cold, allow it to return naturally to room temperature before homogenising the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator, hotplate or in a microwave oven.

Packaging notice: Particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or leave a mark on the label, even when the bottle is closed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise for any marking of the label. After dosing, wipe the bottle neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealed bag.

How can I avoid making the plastisol too dark with Standard Black?

Begin with the smallest possible addition, mix thoroughly and check a cooled sample. More colour can be added, but black concentrate that has already been mixed in cannot be removed.

How does Standard Black differ from dark Special shades?

Standard Black is a basic black shade. Junebug, Ox Blood, Motor Oil and dark-green variants have their own colour character and cannot automatically be replaced with black.

When should I use black for the whole body and when only for the back?

A completely black body creates a uniform dark appearance. A narrow back or flank layer preserves the lure's second colour and adds only a dark silhouette or contrast.

Can Standard Black be used to create a grey shade?

You can trial a very low dose in clear plastisol or make a small test with a compatible white colour. There is no universal ratio, so always assess the resulting grey after it has cooled.

Which glitter can I try with Standard Black?

Silver or holographic glitter creates a stronger flash, while blue adds a cooler detail. The glitter must be suitable for the working temperature of plastisol and should be added only after mixing the base colour.

Why can black look different in a thin part of the lure than in a thicker section?

Casting thickness changes the amount of light that passes through the material. Assess the recipe in a sample with a thickness similar to that of the finished lure.
